There were many advantages that the North and South used in the civil war. They used lots of strategies to help them win the many battles and wars. The South were the Confederates during the Civil War. They were name the Confederates because they succeeded from the Union. The North was the Union. They were against slavery and were by the free states while the South had slave states. Both sides had advantages that possessed political, social, economic and demographic advantages. .The North which is the Union and the South which is Confederates both had very good strategies and advantages that helped them win the many battles The first advantage had to do with politics. The North's political goal was to was to reconquer Confederate territory and force the South to rejoin the nation. There advantage was that they had more people then the confederates. It is stated in (Michigan History 512) that the Union has over 22 million people. The North had a better advantage over the south because of the amount of people they have. The economic strategy was to try to make sure the confederates couldn’t get supplies.It is stated by Elizabeth Foster that “The Union chose an offensive strategy that combined attacks on the confederate territory with economic pressure.” The North had an advantage because the military produced more coal, iron, wool, and what which increased the North’s economic growth.They also had more farms and factories in the North..
