GEICO, the Government Employees Insurance Company, and Esurance Insurance Services, Inc are two auto insurance based in the United States. In their advertisement, GEICO features a piglet, Maxwell, attempting to obtain a driver’s license from a snarky old clerk using the insurance information on his phone. On the other hand, Esurance depicts an elderly woman, Beatrice, in the process of showing her friends her “wall”when, in good faith, her friends corrects her, causing Beatrice to “unfriend” her. The Author of the passage is debating, whether student athletes should be awarded monetary compensation for their contribution to teams that garner millions of dollars for universities. The author uses appeal to Logos and Pathos to build his argument on the subject, and to help persuade the reader to agree with the the argument they are trying to make.

As Meredith Grey, my fictional idol from Grey’s anatomy would say, “Progress looks like a bunch of failures”. A main focus of this semester was learning our audience, and convincing people of things through writing and or visuals using ethos pathos and or logos. I did not see the connections of any of my papers from the first to second semester at first. But my memoir from the first semester and my campaign project from this semester both use pathos, emotion. For me it was easiest to write about the pathos, but the ethos and logos part was out of my reach. I left some of my comfort writing the campaign paper using all 3 and it gave me a better understanding as a writer to keep in mind who am I talking to, what message am I trying to get across

Ethos, pathos, and logos are all devices that Barbara Ehrenreich effectively uses throughout her novel Nickel and Dimed to prove that America needs to address the commonly overlooked issue of poverty within every community. It is important that she uses all three devices because they help support her argument by increasing her credibility, connecting to the readers’ emotions, and appealing to their sense of logic. The combination of these devices puts a sense of urgency on the problem Ehrenreich is addressing and therefore creates an effective argument.

Alone, the use of only ethos, pathos, or logos would make for a semi-interesting story, but together, they tell a believable account of real events. Beatty makes use of all three techniques to connect with her audience and share her own story as well as hard facts that verify the events. The powerful combination of ethos, pathos, and logos conveys Beatty’s story convincingly.

Doctor Martin Luther King Junior was an expert in persuading his audience. He was a massive advocate for the civil rights movement, and when he saw the injustice being served to the African American community during the Vietnam war, he had to take a stand. In his passage, "Beyond Vietnam- A time to break silence", he uses the rhetorical devices of logos, pathos and ethos to to strengthen his argument for why American involvement in the Vietnam war was unjust. The technique of logos, using logic to persuade an audience, is seen many times throughout this passage.

“Pathos, ethos, and logos in The Redeemed Captive” The story The Redeemed Captive is about a man named John Williams who was captured by Native Americans along with his family to be taken to the French. The story goes through John Williams experience of being kidnapped and his relationship and faith in God, this theme is shown throughout the rest of the story. Throughout the story John Williams constantly brings up God and how good He is, this persuades the reader and convinces them to keep their faith in God. He persuades the reader by using the three rhetorical appeals pathos, ethos, and logos.

These three modes of persuasion are used to achieve the audiences’ attention and influence them towards an idea. The three modes are called ethos, pathos, and logos. In the articles, “Music is Worthless,” written by Steve Lawson and “Nashville Skyline: Searching for the Heart of Country” written by Chet Flippo, both authors use the rhetorical tools: ethos, pathos, and logos. In “Music is Worthless,” Lawson comes across many aspects on what music is really worth and how it is valued, while in “Nashville Skyline: Searching for the Heart of Country,” Flippo tries to find where country music was lost and where it still can be found. Although, music can be perceived in many ways, Lawson and Flippo use the rhetorical tools ethos, pathos, and logos to help the reader understand their reasoning on certain music.

The art of effective or persuasive speaking and writing is known as rhetoric. Using different techniques, authors make themselves more believable and are able to connect more with readers in order to convince them of their argument. Rhetoric involves consideration of the speaker, the audience, and the subject. The speaker uses the aspects of the rhetoric triangle to connect with the audience and agree with them about the subject. The rhetorical triangle includes the elements of ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is proving the speaker’s credibility, logos uses logic, and emotion is labeled as pathos. By using these strategies in writing, authors are able to achieve their purpose. There's different kinds of emotions the readers can feel from reading this article. she uses examples to strengthen the main idea and also to bring out the emotion. In the beginning of her Introduction she uses the word "slaughter" which reveals a terrifying scene on the reader's mind. She then gives examples of the type of crime juvenile committed, murdering, raping, and assaulting someone with harmful weapon.

This memoir is going to be about a few hard times I’ve had. High school, losing friends, breaking up, and ineligibility rules. First off we’ll start with high school. High school can be so fun, but people can be very rude and not kind to you. They like to bring you down on a daily basis.

From this course, I learned many different concepts. The one that I feel will contribute the most to my life outside of this class would be pathos, ethos, and logos. Persuasion is something that most people deal with often. Pathos, ethos, and logos are something that has a significant role in persuasion.
