Honor: I don’t think there’s anything more important to me than my own personal honor, or another way to say it, my integrity. The shortest way I can define it is to say that, at the end of the day, I need to be able to live with myself. It doesn’t mean I will always be perfect, but it does mean that I will try my best as a Sailor, shipmate, and naval officer. Courage: I define “Courage” as the breastplate of righteous that strengthens me and it is “Courage” that shapes me personally and professionally to give my all morally and mentally in fulfilling my duties in the face of uncertainty. The uncertainty I am speaking of is the moment of truth when I have to act in the best interest of the U.S. Navy and not fulfill my own will even
Courage is as stated in The New International Webster’s Dictionary of the English Language to be “the capacity to meet danger or difficulty with firmness.” In my mind courage has always meant doing what you had to do, and dealing with it because you had to. I never had a choice in my life whether I wanted to move to a different city
Courage in simple words means an act of bravery. Everyone has their own definition, for some the meaning is much more complicated for others it's very simple. When I think of someone who is courageous I think of my Dad and military individuals people who have fought for their country. People like doctors and scientists people who don't think about themselves when faced with a choice to give up. My definition of courage is a person that has the strength needed to do the unthinkable. Certainly, that is not just it. Courage takes a bigger picture of an act of bravery. When one is courageous enough to do what is right, he earned the utmost respect of human spirit. While some may see being courageous has to be doing a big thing, it boils down to a thing as small as saying “Sorry, I was
A courageous action most often is associated with reaching a goal or task of importance, despite the dangers even risks associated with it (“Courage”). For any specific act to be considered truly courageous it must be reasonably thought about and determined that the goal is well worth the risk or danger (“Courage”). Courage so often can be put with words such as heroic, and bravery although with courage there can be a fine line between courageous acts and plain foolishness. All this can make people believe that courage only applies to physical actions. There are two kinds of courage moral and physical in many cases they are both displayed in a single courageous act; however, bravery must come before all else, because they are associated with reaching a task of importance regardless of risk.
What is courage? According to Webster’s dictionary, courage is the ability to do something that you know is difficult or dangerous. Courage describes the men in the 54th regiment perfectly. Courage is different from bravery in that being brave can be seen as doing something that is difficult or dangerous with no fear, however, having courage brings along with it the fear of the task at hand. (1) During their rifle training, Colonel Shaw comes over and tells one of the men to reload faster and faster all the while shooting a pistol right behind him causing the soldier to get overwhelmed and drop his ramrod
The Bible has very specific parameters for courage. Courage is trusting in God, His nature, and His perfect plans. Trusting in His

At least 59 people died in a shooting at a Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. The shooter was perched on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, with multiple weapons. One example of courage is when a cable damaged the tip of my plane’s wing during the Korean War. I had to have courage because it was a dangerous mission that almost killed me.
I will woman up and admit that i’m a lazy person when it comes to school, but i’m also a hard worker. I do give a hundred percent into all my work, however I mostly finish it near the deadline. I just can’t help it! I’ve been like this my whole life and I’m still able to maintain a good GPA. To put it in another way, I feel at my highest peak when i’m under pressure, which I believe improves the final outcome of my work. In 11th grade, I should be in English 11 Honors because I would feel more comfortable at a pace that i’m familiar with.
C.S. Lewis once said, “Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.”(137) Courage is, “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger” (Courage). To honor God, many Christians have shown courage when they faced difficult situations. True courage has been demonstrated many times throughout history.
There are multiple traits that truly demonstrate why I am qualified to be a Naval officer, the first being honor. The word “honor” is a word so powerful that it resonates through the minds of millions, even billions of people from multitudes of cultures and generations from the past and present. Honor holds such a value in some cultures that in the past, even committing a small dishonorable act could lead to death. By modern standards my interpretation of honor relates largely to a person staying committed and persevering through pain to maintain his honor. This is especially true when discussing the military. I have had aspirations to join the military for more than ten years now. I have always respected members of every single branch of this
The current dictionary definitions of courage are inadequate because they only include references to physical courage and omit instances of inner vigor. Three contemporary dictionaries accede proximately on the definition; Webster’s New World Dictionary describes courage as “an posture of facing and dealing with anything apperceived as hazardous, arduous or painful, without withdrawing from it,” and The American Heritage Dictionary gives a similar explication. While The Shorter Oxford Dictionary concurs with this meaning, it verbalizes that the primary definition is “spirit, mind, or disposition.” The study of the concept of Courage reveals that courage is finding strength to face danger, difficulty, uncertainty, or pain without being overcome by fear. Mortimer Adler’s depiction of courage is included in his Great Books of the Western world. Adler uses the heroes of history to enforce his point that heroes are not heroes unless they are courageous.
That implies that the definition is distinctive relying upon the culture’s area and its person’s beliefs. The definition for courage, as characterized by Daniel Webster seems to be "that quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or difficulties/ opposition with firmness/fearlessness." The words that make courage a related term are risk and resistance. Also, the dictionary definition of courage is the mental energy to overcome fear and confront threat or resistance or other unfriendly perimeter, either in the physical, or in the ethical
Most people believe that courage is when people do something that others would have a hard time doing. But courage can be acts small and embarrassing like speaking in front of people, or big and dangerous like free-climbing up a cliff. I believe true courage is not something that is easy to show, it is the will to get up and do that act, even when the odds are stacked against you, the need to keep fighting even when you have been told you lost, and even just doing the right thing even when you have everything to lose.
