Pop art got its name from Lawrence Alloway, who was a British art critic in 1950’s. The name “Pop Art” reflected on the “familiar imagery of the contemporary urban environment” (kleiner, 981). This art form was popular for its bold and simple looks plus its bright and vibrant colors. An example of this type of art is the oil painting done by Andy Warhol, “Marilyn Diptych” (Warhol, Marilyn Diptych) in 1962. The Pop art movement became known in the mid-1950 and continued as main type of art form until the late 1960’s. The term ``Pop Art'' was first used by the English critic Lawrence Alloway in a 1958 issue of Architectural Digest to describe those paintings that celebrate post-war consumerism, defy the psychology of Abstract Expressionism, and worship the god of materialism. The most famous of the Pop artists, the cult figure Andy Warhol, recreated quasi-photographic paintings of people or everyday objects.
Neil Jenney was one of the artist that was part of the New Image Painting Exhibition. Her technique displayed a more child like feeling. ( Lawrance 30) One of her painitngs that she created in in 1969, Threat and Sanctuary is a prime example of her style of painting. The vivid colors and perhaps the short strokes could be categorized as pop art. The difference is that pop art is more abstract in the form of the shape. There’s no representational meaning or narrative like Jenney would show here.
From the vibrant colors to the new and innovative mediums being utilized, pop art has always caught my interest from a young age. The man who brought about this interest was none other than Andy Warhol with his piece, Gold Marilyn. The way Warhol colored his piece, and made it so simple had caught my immediate attention. Since then, I have always took an interest in the style of pop art from varying artists. This interested had me gravitate towards researching more of Warhol’s pieces to get a better understanding of his framework. Thus, I decided to conduct further research Warhol’s, Campbell’s Soup Cans. This piece is what made be question what can and cannot be considered art due to it being such a simple concept and being repetitive. I could
On a frigid and blustery winter morning in early February. I and my classmates ventured out on an excursion to the Museum of Contemporary Art in the Streeterville area of Chicago. The exhibit we were to view was the Pop Art show, which intrigued me as I am a huge fan of Roy Lichtenstein work. But as strolled about the different artist collections I was drawn back to a piece by Andy Warhol entitled Jackie Frieze 1964. The sadness in her eyes were simply captivating as well as, her twinkling eyes and smile in two of the photos. There were other more famous compositions in the Warhol collection on display such as his sublime rendition of the Campbell's Soup cans. The sorrow of Jackie Kennedy's eyes kept pulling me back to her. So there I stood

The moment Pop Art entered the world in the 1950s, people were captivated by the art movement. One reason is that Pop Art celebrates commonplace objects and people of everyday life, often through incorporating techniques associated with mass media and subjects drawn from popular culture. The thing about Pop Art is that it is no different from other Art Movement in a way. Like any other art movement, there are always artists that decide if they should not be affiliated with a certain group or any group. In the case of the Pop Art Movement, Alex Katz just happened to be one of those artists that decides to not to be affiliated with any groups. However, there are some artworks of Katz’s that can state otherwise. Although that it can be usual

Thesis: Pop art is considered one of the most popular movements in the modern era and has inspired the world of art and creativity.
For the general population, popular art, better known as pop art, goes unnoticed. The large printed words on your protein shake or the animated leprechaun on cereal boxes have become modern society’s norm. However, pop art did not come into play until the mid-1900’s and did not gain its popularity until the early 1960’s. In my art class, we are in the process of drawing a product such as perfume boxes and chocolate packages in one point perspective. Popular art is any type of art that is inspired by popular culture, ideas, and comments. Illustrating objects such as perfume boxes is the perfect example of pop art. For my project, I drew two different types of perfume boxes, Red Door by Elizabeth Arden and Diesel.
