There are character types and personalities, which with these personalities shows a ton of racial stereotypes demonstrated in society. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (1960). relevant as ever, and people need to use the content within the book to learn how to put yourself in another person's skin.
Dolphus Raymond is an intriguing character because he likes to be with people of color more than whites, so people do not interact with him. For example, he puts a coca-cola bottle in a paper bag to make it look like an alcoholic beverage. The children proceed to ask him “why do you do like you do”( 268). and Raymond responds with “you mean why do I pretend? Well, It’s very simple… i try to give ‘em a reason you see it helps folks if they latch onto a reason”(268). Which Raymond is basically saying he pretends to be drunk so they think it’s alcohol influencing his decisions. Why is this brought up? This point is being brought up because people tend to use this as an escape tactic from a question that gets brought up constantly and the way to make them stop is to make up a fake reason so they can hang onto previously stated fake reason.
There is a literal definition in this book and a metaphorical definition of the quote”to kill a mockingbird is a sin”( ). The metaphorical definition goes around the lines of benefiting yourself off of the weak, examples of this are when people give money to the homeless just to make more money off of helping the homeless is like killing a mockingbird. Why does this matter? Well it matters because near the end of the book Scout brings up that making Arthur “Boo” Radley a hero would be sort of killing a mockingbird, because he lived most of his adulthood in solitary and if there were people waiting to see the hero that saved to kids and being a nuisance to them when their not used to it just because two lives were saved. Well that seems like its a good thing or is it? Well to the population it is not a big deal but to the small population of maycomb county it is.
One of the main themes of To Kill a Mockingbird one of the blantly obvious main themes is you do not fully know someone until you put yourself and the moment she finally understands this theme is at the end of
To kill a mockingbird can mean many things. It’s the title of a book that has been bought 40 million times. But, it also has a definition. To kill a mockingbird means to destroy innocence. The theme of my literary analysis is mockingbirds. Mockingbirds in TKAM are innocent things tainted by the skewed society of Maycomb. Some of these mockingbirds are Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and the children. To Kill a Mockingbird is a book set in a small Alabama town in the 1930’s. The main character and narrator is Jean Louise Finch, but is almost always called by her nickname, Scout. Scout, her brother, and her summer friend Dill get into all kinds of mischief while living in the racist society of a 1930’s Alabama town. Scout’s dad, Atticus, is a prominent lawyer in Maycomb and is appointed to a controversial case, and is defending a black man. Scout and her brother, Jem go through many troubles and learn many lessons from the days leading up to, and during the trial. The trail makes their family some friends and a lot of enemies. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a story of courage and despair. Throughout TKAM, mockingbirds are used as an example of something innocent being tainted by the skewed society of TKAM. Some great examples of these are Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and the children.
‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is a novel written by Harper Lee. It is set during the early 20th Century in the fictional town of Maycomb. Lee has decided to write the novel from a child’s point of view because a child is innocent but as the novel progresses the narrator, Scout, loses her innocence as she deals with the complications of her father being a lawyer. The novel revolves around racism and Scout sees discrimination wherever she goes whether it is racial or social prejudice. The town’s people agree with the idea that whites are superior to blacks. An example of this is when Atticus, Scout’s father, has to defend a black man who is accused of raping Bob Ewell’s daughter.
The book, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, is centered around the racism and injustice in the American South in the 1930’s. It focuses on a young Alabama girl named Scout, and her father, who is defending an innocent black man accused of rape. In her book, Harper Lee reveals the idea of empathy, through quotes such as, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb inside his skin and walk around in it" (Lee 30). In the book, Atticus Her writing exemplifies the theme that empathy helps people better understand the motives and actions of others, through juxtaposition, symbolism, and stereotype revelations.
Today, if one was asked about racism, ageism or stereotypes, most likely their reaction would be to think about the news reports and stories appearing daily. The issues themselves, however, are not new as shown in the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. In the book, the main character Scout retells experiences she had as a child with these same prejudices. Racism, ageism and stereotypes are all significant components in both the novel and modern life.
It's a sin to kill a mockingbird because they don't do anything to hurt people; they only help farmers out and sing beautiful songs. To Kill a Mockingbird is about a little girl named Scout who sees her town as a beautiful place where nothing unpleasant happens until accusations of rape occur. Then she realizes how racist and negative her town people can be. This occurs when her dad defends an innocent African American man. She realizes that Macomb has deplorable individuals living there, and this reality hit her hard. Atticus Finch, Tom Robinson, and Boo Radley are metaphorically portrayed as mockingbirds.
The book to kill a mockingbird shows the impact stereotyping has on people and their life. People like Tom robinson the the court case, Dolphus Raymond being a alcoholic but just coca cola. Also, with boo and all the mean things he's supposedly done but was the lifesaver at the end of the book. People aren't who you think they are when you don't know them. Also that you can't judge a book by its
“Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy, that’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” The novel To Kill a Mockingbird is a book of exploration of the moral nature of human beings—that is, whether people are essentially good or essentially evil. A young girl named Scout deals with the issues of racism while gaining knowledge, experience, strength, and courage, while her father, a lawyer, is persecuted for defending a falsely accused black man being charged with raping a white girl. Many characters are judged upon their race, behavior, and social class.

“It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” Everything started with a man named Simon Finch, an American fur trader, that settled a successful farm on the banks of the Alabama river. Atticus, one of Simon’s sons, left for school and then came back to Maycomb to become a successful lawyer and raise Jem and Scout. The community they live in, Maycomb County, is full of prejudice and racism but also with empathy. Everyone who lives there like Atticus, Jem, Scout, Dill, Boo Radley, The two poor families, Miss Caroline, Miss Maudie, Mrs. Dubose, the list can go on, took a big part in this situation because they all either had empathy, received empathy or where the ones that had prejudice towards other people. The author gives sufficient evidence that within this community empathy can be the solution to racism and prejudice.
The books title itself has a very controversial topic hidden within it. On page 92 in To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus says to Jem, ““Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”. This is important because it comes back at the end of the book when Arthur kills Bob. Later on Scout received an explanation from Miss Maudie. This was their conversation, “That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it. “Your father’s right,” she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird (Lee 92-94). This is key to the controversial topic of the Justice system in To Kill a Mockingbird. I think that in To Kill a Mockingbird the Mockingbird was referring to Tom Robinson, and Arthur Radley. Both of these men are the Mockingbirds in this story. Mockingbirds are weak, they are helpless, they don’t hurt anyone, they are very soothing and calm. Both Mr. Robinson and Mr. Radley have the traits of a mockingbird in this story and out of both of them the true mockingbird is Arthur Radley.
It is seen as an opinion that the protagonists of the story share that to do harm to something that means you none such as a mockingbird is wrong. Atticus, Scout’s dad, tells the kids of the sin after arming them with an air rifle capable of killing birds. “Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy...but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to Kill a mockingbird (90). This quote from Miss Maudie supports Atticus’s thought that to kill something so good is wrong. This powerful concept of mockingbirds is also
In the passage from To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee’s use of an garish details and an innocent point of view creates a pensive tone and reveals that understanding requires the loss of innocence.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel written by Harper Lee and published in 1960. It was a very successful book, winning the Pulitzer Prize and becoming a modern American classic. Ostensibly, the title of To Kill a Mockingbird has scant literary connection to the plot of the story, but the recurring mockingbird motif symbolizes the innocent and good characters in this novel. Miss Maudie explains to Scout why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird: “Your father’s right. Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” To Kill a Mockingbird likens three characters, Tom Robinson, Arthur “Boo” Radley, and Atticus Finch, to mockingbirds.
It is commonly acknowledged that Literature is the reflection of the society. It is indeed true that literature reflects the attitude and perception of the society where it is written. Literature mirrors the vices of the society with an intention to make the society realize its mistakes and make amendments. The vast literature, produced from time to time, bears evidence to the fact that man is prone to discrimination. Treating a person or particular group of people differently, especially in a worse way from the way in which you treat other people, because of their sexuality, skin, and class has, been core theme of the Harper lee’s master piece To Kill a Mocking Bird. The novel is told from Scout’s perspective; through Scout, we witness the social construction of race, class, and gender. The novel continues to be taught in classrooms due to its illustration
