“ The strong survive and those best suited to survival will outlive the weak.” Social Darwinism applies the evolutionary concept of natural selection to human society. In the 19th century, philosopher Herbert Spencer introduced the idea of Social Darwinism. It applies to the theory of natural selection to social, political and economic issues. In its simplest form, Social Darwinism follows the mantra that “ the strong survive.” This theory basically promotes the idea that the white europeans were more superior than any other race so therefore they could rule over them. The Nazis said that all the murders during World War ll against the jews were a vivid example of cleaning out the “ inferior “genetics. To them, people that were jews didn’t have the same knowledge or strength that a “ white european “ did. Social Darwinism was proven to be loosely based on Darwin’s theory of natural selection. Natural selection is based on what you do to make yourself prosper and make yourself equipped to whatever is going to come your way. Some people don’t try and those are considered the “ weak “ . Obviously if you don’t try anything your not going to get anywhere and you’re not going to prosper. In the story The Jungle, Jurgis is a very strongly built man and he likes to work. He gives his all into his work and makes sure that his family is safe and with food at the table. In a way social Darwinism applies to Jurgis just because of the fact that he is strong and as Spenser believes that the most strong survive and the weak should not be alive.
