As an agriculture surveyor who is trying to utilize drones to increase the efficiency of the surveying the land for my customers, I would have a lot to consider before starting usage of the drones. Currently, the FFA has been given the power to create federal regulations around the operation of drones, but they have not been clearly defined yet which would make operating drones. Some states and local municipalities have even also created their own statutes in order to keep up with the technology. Due to the fragmented rules governing different areas and a lack of clear regulation from the federal government, operating a drone could open my business up to substantial unforeseen liabilities. I would need to make sure to I have done enough …show more content…
As the business owner once I find guidance on what makes someone knowledgeable in the field, I would hire them as my drone operations leader. They should be knowledgeable in all things related to operating a drone. How far away can the drone be from the operator? Do I need support staff with the drone operator for spotting and assisting the drone operator? What kind of drones would be best for this type of work, something as small as possible to reduce the impact if something goes wrong with the drone? What kinds of maintenance should be performed on the drones to ensure they operational safe? Are there any routine inspections that the FAA would carry out? Also, what how much to spend on ensuring my drone operations team is current on up to date laws. This could be significant as the laws are still in …show more content…
Nevertheless, before going into such a new business model, I would need to fully understand the laws and regulations that I could end up having to deal with down the road. I would need to reach out to regulating agencies, lawyers, industry experts, and insurance companies to fully vet the idea and understand the implications. Some of the issues that should be considered are trespassing, privacy, negligence, and the regulatory environment. Even then understanding the risk doesn’t prevent something from happening. Implemented effective risk management practices can get very expensive especially when it requires having expert members on my staff now that are more than likely going to need to be highly knowledge and licensed in the field of
Technology is constantly getting more impressive, but these technologies need to have limits. One popular new technology is the drone. Merriam Webster defines drones as unmanned vehicles guided by remote controls. Advanced drones are used in the military; drones are also used for weather prediction, landscape mapping, and other uses. In the future, drones could make people’s lives easier and safer, but they could also idea because drones can injure people, spy on people, and be used by terrorists and criminals.
Money is always a huge factor when buying a new technology, and the things with drones is that they are becoming more and more affordable. ABC news said “They're becoming increasingly affordable. A popular drone model for citizens costs about $500”(Source4). The cheaper and more advance the technology for drones becomes the more people and businesses will use them for completing tasks. Employer Inc also produced a article talking about pricing and expanding technology inside the workplace. “Rapidly advancing technology combined with decreasing prices put sophisticated drones in the hands of more and more people”(Source2). Better technology means cheaper ways of producing drones which can drop the prices of drones and create affordable models to draw businesses and new people. Drones have become a valuable resource and have made lives easier and at a affordable price the more people use the more discoveries and new technology is found and put to good use especially in the

In the article Drone On, Gretchen West addresses the possibilities for drones and her issues with FAA and the slow pace their taking to establish rules for drone operating. She begins with the history of drones. She discusses that drones were primarily use for the military and other government sectors like Homeland Security, until private companies started developing an interest in drones. Instead of helping in wars and watching our boarders, drones were now being used for farming and bridge inspection. Now drones are an international and multibillion dollar industry. Drones, are as a faster and safer way to do things like helping farmers with their crops or help filmmakers shoot amazing footage; drones will benefit everyone. Commercial drones
Drones can also play a significant role in the prosperity of an economy. Presently, it is worth noting that a number of countries still have very stringent measures when it comes to the use of drones.
Today the use of drones has moved beyond military and recreational use and has emerged as a trending topic of conversation within both the private sector, commercial, and military realms (Bowden, 2013). Drone piloting has also become quite the topic of controversy due to military drone pilots taking non-traditional routes to achieve pilot certification. Military application has changed the landscape of foreign policy has augmented our military’s reach across the globe with the use of drones on the battlefield (Cole, 2014). As far as commercial uses drones are now augmented the way we deliver packages and cultivate vast amounts of farm (Senger, 2013). Even surveying of lands has changed with the adaptive technology drones utilize to map land features. The influx of drones in the public and private sector now has the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
This urge to know more lead me to consider purchasing a drone for myself, but there were a few problems about that consideration. I didn’t have a complete understanding about drone maneuverability and regulations which lead me to speculate whether or not to begin exploring the field of drones. My desire to study about unmanned aerial systems strengthened over the next couple of years, but I couldn’t find many lessons that were interactive and thorough enough. I find it amazing how a brand new view of the ground below can be accessed with such a small and agile product. For a great portion of my existence, I always thought that huge aircrafts would be the only functionable creations that would be able to fly the skies, so when I first witnessed the potential of these aerial systems, I was quickly captivated to properly wield one someday. The feature of recording flights was also mind-blowing because it opened a new way to express the world around us through film. It’s amazing how creative content creators can be when using them. Being able to easily access a new way to express oneself is a progression into the future we have set for
In the United States, domestic drones are gaining popularity and have the potential to do many things, good or bad. The drones are publicly available for a very cheap cost and are capable installing software or devices that take live video streaming, video recording, have infrared cameras, heat sensors, GPS, sensors that detect movement, automated license plate readers, and, in the close future, facial recognition technology linked to the FBI’s biological database. These capabilities make drones either a very real threat or one of the best law enforcement technologies out
In this you can already see that drones do cause some concern towards the FAA and safety for all the pilots in the sky. It's difficult to say how long it'll take the FAA to make rules so that not a single person can be killed by drones if they follow the rules given to them. The Rules consist of restrictions such as Drones over the weight of 250 g and below 55 kg must register under the FAA and Drones can only fly below 400 feet which is around the length of a football field. For now these rules are thought out enough to keep drone pilots safe on each flight and keep the people around them
The decision of purchasing drones for the purpose of local law enforcement to use could be a negative and a positive. There are several states in the U.S. who do allow the purchase and the usage of drones by local law enforcement. Some of those states consist of Texas and California; but for the states on the East Coast (where Baltimore, Maryland resides); there is one state who allows the purchase and usage of drones: Florida. There are several pros and cons on this issue. Some of the pros and cons revolve around money, time, and the issue of individual rights.
A lot of the discussions we've had in class have led me to believe that in a few years, drones will become a normal part of our society. It will no longer be odd or a special occasion to have an Amazon drone drop a package off at our front door. People won't flip out when a drone affixed with a camera might accidentally fly into their backyard. On the contrary to that, if a drone is legitimately being used to spy on someone, those type of cases will be a lot more common.
Since drones have been made a public and easy toy to get your hands on there have been many photographers that have adopted drones into their everyday gear for picture taking. All of the people using the drones in a negative way, invading people’s privacy, have caused many photographers and everyday drone users many inconveniences. The battle is now upon states and towns to regulate their use in their communities. “While people could fly their drones in their back yard, they could be subject to serious fines if the device flies over to their neighbor's yard or if it uses a camera to monitor his or her activities. In Louisiana, for example, it's illegal to use a drone to monitor a person or property without consent. Offenders face a fine of up to $500 and six months in jail.” Many people are fighting their cities and states for freedom and not so many restrictions with drones. Due to all of the poor decisions made by some people there are cites such as New York already looking for a complete ban on the use of drones, and it even prohibits law enforcement from using
Contact an FAA official to become familiar with the current and potentially future laws and regulations that govern drone delivery system.
Finally, the article, "Drones take off: get ready; flying robots are about to change our lives", proclaims to the reader, "Drones are also being used in the new field of precision agriculture... Today's farms can span as many as 10,000 acres... farmers rely on technology to help them keep an eye on their crops... they currently purchase photographs taken by satellites. But these images are expensive... so farmers are starting to turn to drones. Drones' relatively low cost means they can be out over the fields every day, monitoring the crops and alerting the farmer when an area looks like it needs more attention." Accordingly, drones are becoming a reliable tool for farmers to check on their crops. Moreover, not only are drones able to provide
Drone technology is advancing rapidly and it is changing the way in which things are being done. Drones are widely used by many people as a hobby or for career purposes, as well as for military purposes by the United States. Drones provide the U.S military with many benefits, which helps the military to operate efficiently and in a safe manner. Businesses are utilizing this technology as well in order to make their companies run more efficiently, as well as to improve their customer service. Drone technology will positively impact our society; drastically change our culture and political system and definitely advance our economy as well as help enhance our environment.
