Working full time and being a full time student, I realize how quickly time passes. I start my day by waking up early in the morning, heading off to work, then commuting to Fresno to attend school. As my lifestyle continues to consistently change, I find myself focusing on tasks that need to be done instead of taking time to focus on my self-care. Whether it’s getting caught up on work email or finishing an essay for school, I always put my self-care on the back burner, which results in feelings of being stressed. For my self-care plan, I want to create a plan that will allow myself time to focus on my self-care in order to reduce stress and exhaustion in my life that I experience on a daily basis. Specific self-care activities that will be personally nurturing and life giving are activities such as reading books that I’ve wanted to read for months but never got to, going on bike rides with my husband, going on road trips across California to experience new places, and visiting California’s wineries. These are the activities that I always think about doing, but never do. The Five Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is a book that I’ve wanted to finish, as it discusses the five agreements that we make in life with others, God, and also the agreements that we make in life. By reading this book, I believe it will help in …show more content…
One of the biggest barriers is the distraction of school and work. I always find myself checking email either on my phone or laptop, and that takes away from the time that I have for myself and the time to spend with my loved ones. In order to overcome this barrier, I will need to complete any tasks that I have for school and work at the appropriate time, that way I don’t have to worry about getting it done later. When it comes to email, I need to shut off the notification settings so I don't get a notification on my phone when I get a new email from
One article defined self-care as “the care of oneself without medical, professional or other assisntance or oversight.” (Godfey, CM et al, 2011). While reviewing different articles the conclusion was that the definition of self-care could
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed in 1848, officially ended the war between Mexico and the United States. Even though it happened over 168 years ago, its legacy persists, because the treaty redefined the border and the border region. Under the terms of the treaty, Mexicans who suddenly found themselves living in the United States choose either Mexican citizenship, in which case they would have to relocate south of the new border, or to stay where they were and become citizens of the United States. About 80 percent—a total of seventy-five thousand Mexican people—remained in the United States (Passel, 2011). Since then, continuing economic and political difficulties in Mexico, combined with economic opportunities in the United States, have encouraged the flow of migration from Mexico to the United States in large numbers. Today, Mexican Americans are the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States and the estimated Mexican American population in 2000 was 20.6 million people, the largest Mexican population outside of Mexico (Center for Immigration Studies, 2010). Most Mexican Americans entered the United States legally and have become full U.S. citizens, however, the number of illegal immigrants arriving from Mexico has been an alarming and concerning issue in the United States and especially the state of Arizona. Arizona is in a unique geopolitical location in the United States because it shares a 370-mile border with Mexico. Much of the border is open and
As a busy mother, partner, worker etc. I find it hard to allocate appropriate time especially for studying.
After reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz I realized I’ve been living dreams of other people in my life and not my own. It was decided early on what I should do, what’s possible and what’s not. Starting at birth we are told what to think by our parents, schools, and church. Subconsciously, we have made agreements with them to live our life according to their rules. Don Miguel believes that these agreements are self-limiting and shares four agreements that if we adapt into our lives we will reach true peace and happiness. The book made so much sense to me, but the hard part is to actually commit to living out the four agreements. In short, the four agreements are listed below:
Self-care maintenance is operationally defined as “those behaviors used by patients with a chronic illness to maintain physical and emotional stability” (Riegel et al., 2012, p. 195). An expanded definition used is that “Self-care maintenance refers to those behaviors performed to improve well-being, preserve health, or to maintain physical and emotional stability” (Riegel et al., 2012, p. 195). The operational definition of self-care monitoring is that it “refers to the process of observing oneself for changes in signs and symptoms” (Riegel et al., 2012, p. 195). Another definition of self-care monitoring used is “a process of routine, vigilant body monitoring, surveillance or ‘body listening’” (Riegel et al., 2012, p. 195). “Self-care management is defined as the response to signs and symptoms when they occur” (Riegel et al., 2012, p. 195). The expanded definition of self-care management is “involves an evaluation of changes in physical and emotional signs and symptoms to determine if action is needed” (Riegel et al., 2012, p. 195). While the differences in these definitions are minor, semantic clarity requires semantic consistency in the theory (Fawcett & Garity, 2009); therefore, the definitions should be the same throughout. The precise goals of self-care maintenance or self-care management are not identified; however, the goal of self-care monitoring is
Throughout the Progressive Era, Theodore Roosevelt struggled with immigration regulation and foreign relations. As Anti-Japanese feelings erupted across the West Coast, Roosevelt had to take action in order to maintain good relations with the Japanese both internationally and domestically. Pressured by the Japanese immigrants’ response to the unfair transition to segregated schools, Roosevelt created the Gentlemen’s Agreement in hopes to sustain a sound relationship with Japan and maintain the United States’ moral and diplomatic stature.
Hi Octavia. I also stated some of the same challenges you stated. It’s hard finding a balance between work, family, and studying. You want to be able to interact with your family once you leave work, but your focus should be on reading the next chapter. With me I can get side tracked easily. I’ll end up helping my little girl with her work and then she’ll want to go out for dinner or to play. Once I start to interact with her I lose track of everything. When everything is over, I have to go to bed for work. It’s hard but you have to have self-control. I must say in the past when I was taking online classes I had a great support team. My boyfriend was very understanding and supportive. Someone from my class was always available. It was a great
Self care is essential to the nursing profession because it is a reflection on the quality of health care nurses provide to their patients, it portrays an image to the patients on what’s necessary towards healthy living and can help nurses battle with stress and personal health. Self care can be expressed as taking care of ones self’s health and overall wellbeing. This can be shown through eating healthy, exercising daily, getting enough sleep and completing weekly activities to reduce stress. Improving your overall health can benefit nurses from overworking themselves and help minimize the affects certain stressors can have on them. By doing so, the overall atmosphere in the workplace and the quality of healthcare provided to the patients will be greatly improved.
The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was the treaty that end the U.S-Mexico War in 1836. The war began due to the annexation of Texas by the United States which angered Mexico because they believed Texas belong to them. The Treaty gave the United States Texas for free and they paid for $15 million dollars for the rest of the South West territory. The treaty promised Mexicans living in the newly add territory full U.S citizenship, permission to keep their land, and practice their culture. Due to this treaty, the Mexican American identity was born. Legally the treaty stated Mexican American were consider white. However, in practice Mexican American were treated inferior and promises made by the treaty were broken by the United States. Since those promises were broken Mexican American followed a path where they were oppressed.
During the hours of 8 am to 8pm I am running around and so focused on other things, that I ignore what I might possibly need. After 8 pm I allow myself an hour to regather myself and ask, what do I need to do to get done before tomorrow? That whole hour allows me to re-centre and balance myself, however I am not sure how effective it in is such a short amount of time. By 9pm I am so physically exhausted, but somehow very mentally aware and I find myself the most productive at this time. Maybe it's because I’m to tired to move that it allows me to focus and do my homework, or just watch a show, but it is a direct reflection of my mental and physical needs. By 11 pm I turn off my home, check on my kids and head to bed where I do personal self reflection, which is a really bad habit of mine. With the guidelines of wellness and the medicine wheel brought to my attention, I am able to effetely redirect myself in a more positive outcome. Both the wellness guidelines and medicine wheel are directed to guide us to a better self understanding and positive reinforced tool box of

Imagine a room full of 30 plus 12th-grade colonists on the first day of school at Anaheim high school and the math teacher asks what is the square root of 16? Nothing but the noise of sheer silence falls across the room. How can a room full of students that have been going to school for 12 years not answer that simple question and how can we increase the success of students that go Anaheim high school? In order to increase the success of students at Anaheim schools the summer has to be shorter and the days longer. In the article “Marita’s bargain” the author Gladwell explains how time is used in regular schools compared to the KIPP Academy in the Bronx and other school systems with short summers and longer days. The article shows how more time
For my weekly journals I decided to start reading The Four Agreements, it is a toltec wisdom book by Don Miguel Ruiz. This book says that it is a practical guide to personal freedom. When I first started reading this book I thought wow what a load of crap. But as I continued to read it really made me think. It also began to open my eyes to the way each person’s personality is formed as well as the way they might think. I thought how was my personality formed, was I born this way? Was I really influenced by everything and everyone around me? In fact I was.
In 1511 I served as a soldier in an expedition of Cuba which was ordered by Diego Velazquez.I ignored his orders and decided to travel to Mexico instead,I brought 500 men and 11 ships with me in 1519.I first arrived in Cozumel, and began to explore the land for colonization.
“Do not be concerned about the future; keep your attention on today, and stay in the present moment. Just live one day at a time. Always do your best to keep these agreements, and soon it will be easy for you. Today is the beginning of a new dream.”
