(AC1) Two perspectives in psychology are the behaviourist approach and the biological (also known as physiological) approach. These perspectives consist of different theories, research methods and treatments in relation to mental illness.

It just may happen to be true that the greatest threats to the safety of young adolescents is young adolescents themselves or perhaps even society’s way of dealing with adolescents. At any age throughout the psychological development of the brain, the thought process is bound to be affected by environmental factors which later appear in manifestations attributed singularly to young adolescents such as binge drinking and higher mobile vehicle fatalities. In teenagers an important environmental factor often dictating their behavior is one simple somewhat expected part of life that modifies their behavior when compared to other age groups: peers. The mind is a terrible thing to waste, but it’s also a terrible thing to misunderstand. Understanding how people interact and handle situations throughout life can make relationships and jobs easier; respectively, having a deeper understanding of actions and behaviors can especially help with students, to understand what changes occur during the time of schooling. These changes can be minor or completely change the way a teenage student acts and thinks. Psychology should be introduced at an earlier age so adolescents can understand teen attention span, social cognition, and stress patterns.

Psychology is the scientific “study of the mind” (Gross, 2015) and behavior, which includes the study of humans and animals. There are various approaches in modern psychology. A theoretical approach is a perspective (view) about human behavior, there may be several different theories within an approach, but they all share these common assumptions and principles. (McLeod, 2007). A theory is an attempt by theorists to try to explain behavior. Theories are not facts but can be verified by testing. Theories can then be evaluated which I aim to do through this essay, where I will briefly explain the theoretical approaches in psychology and aim to focus on an analysis for each perspective which consist of the psychodynamic, humanist, cognitive and behavioral approaches where I will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each approach separately.

The biological perspective also can be called Biopsychological Perspective, is a large scientific perspective that undertake that human behaviour and thought processes have a biological fundamental points. Investigations with biological perspective into biochemistry of behaviour link with genetics and heritability, neurotransmitters and hormones, and the psychophysics of sensation and perception. Parts of biological perspective may include; Physiological psychology, neuroscience, pyschoneuroimunology and psychopharmacology. The biological perspective relies on scientific methods because of this, its scope of information is limited to variable that can be manipulated.

Behaviors are based on acts and events taking place within the environment. Environmental influences, observations and imitation, beliefs, and values affect the learning perspective. Third, is the cognitive perspective which is the psychological approach that emphasizes mental process in perception, memory, language, and problem solving. We can partially credit this fizzling-out of the nature-nurture debate to the discoveries made in twin studies. Twin studies are used to help delineate the genetic components of behavior and the socially and culturally influenced components (Myers, 2015). This type of study enables researchers to examine the extent to which genetics and environment have an effect on the development of traits and behavior. For example, in lecture, we learned that a common and natural experiment used in twin studies is to examine a set of twins who grew up in the same household and a set twins who grew up in separate households (K.W.
