Freak The Mighty is a very thrilling and inspiring book about a friendship between two characters named Max and Kevin. During the course of the story, the main character (Max) changes a lot. Max is also very admirable for being a good role model. Here is proof of how he has changed and why I think he is a good role model.
At first, Max didn’t have any friends; he was just felt alone and had nothing to do. But then, Kevin comes along and everything changes. Max and Kevin start talking and soon they become “Freak the mighty.” Kevin is Max’s brain and Max is Kevin’s legs. As the story continues, Max and Kevin became closer and closer. The two also start going on “quests” to help others while pretending they are knights. Near the end of the story,

An example of this is on the end of page 24 to page 25 when Gwen says “SodidSusanexcusemeyourgrandmothermentionyourmomandIwerepalsthatis…untilshegotmarriedexcusemeInever…could abide thatmanIalwaysthoughthewascrazyand…scaryisitokaytosaythatyou…won’tbeoffended?” Max responded casually saying “Yeah, Gram told me,” I would probably be sad about my mom if I were Max. Another reason why I admire Max is because he is brave. He is brave because he handled the situation where his father was in his room thinking about what will happen to Grim first. I would probably be screaming and freaking out if I were Max, which would result in me being in an even worse situation. Again, proof of this is on page 100: “So this is where the geezers stuck you, huh? He whispers. “Down in the basement, out of sign, out of mind? I can’t see his face; he’s this huge shape in the room. Everything changes now, he says. It’s time I got to know my own son, who’s had his mind poisoned against me. He makes me sit up and shushes me to make sure I won’t make any noise. Making noise is the last thing I want to do, because I don’t know whether or not Grim ever brought that gun he mentioned, or what might happen to him if he tried to use
Jurassic Park is classified as a science fiction book or sci-fi for short. It ties imagination and scientific fact together. There were several biological concepts that were discussed in this thrilling story. These were the concepts that stood out to me the most: adaption, biotechnology, and amino-acid deficiency.
Freak the Mighty is a delightful story. It fills the heart with joy and sorrow. There are very happy times, but to go along with the happy ones….there is always the sad ones. The story invites the readers to jump into the book with the characters.
The character maxwell kane is first described as “Im not big,”i say.”thin way your like two feet taller than me.” In fact, when we first see him, “I invented games like kick-boxing and kick-face and kick-teachers and kick-the-other-little-day-care-critters” (page 22). “Called kicker for a time-this was day care, the year gram and grim took me over-and i had a thing about booting anyone who dares to touch me” (page 1).Then when max meets kevin (freak) and max is caring about kevin.max states “and so i just sort of reach down without thinking and i pick up freak and set him on my shoulders.” this shows
In Rodman Philbrick curious novel, Freak The Mighty two misfits learn to cope with each other. Philbrick’s use of tone and mood, displays the development of the boys character and relationship. Max and Kevin feel nerve wracked, when they are on their way to the firework show. Tony, a mischievous kid, maliciously intimidates a worried Max. Kevin confidently intimidates Tony by outwitting him. This shows that Kevin defends Max, showing him he cares. This is important because it demonstrates how Max now trust Kevin. Philbrick expresses this connection with a strong tone of fear and confidence. Later, Tony fiercely attacks Kevin and Max again. A shelfish Tony says, “Slice and Dice.” This makes Kevin fuel up with confidence. This shows that Kevin
There are many different ideas and thoughts on religion and anti-religion. There is not a certain set amount of religions, but rather a broad spectrum of them. In Wise Blood, the author Flannery O’Connor, created a character who has developed different beliefs throughout his life. Hazel Motes, or Haze, was born into a Christian family with a grandfather who was a preacher. He had intent to become one himself until WW2 drastically altered his beliefs. Haze entered the war as a Christian, but came back an atheist. Hazel, “newly released from the Army, has fled after finding his family home abandoned” (Harris). Throughout this novel, Hazel has a hard time with his mind changing between what he wants to believe and what he actually believes.
Max the Mighty is a fictional book written by Rodman Philbrick. Philbrick wrote the book in 1998. Also in 1998, Philbrick wrote Freak the Mighty. “Freak The Mighty has become a standard reading selection in thousands of classrooms worldwide, and now has nearly three million copies in print” (RodmanPhilbrick.com, n. d.). Max who is now on his own since his best friend died met someone named worm after rescuing her from nearly getting beat by her stepfather, and is now in search of her real dad.
There are many questions about whether Edna is a good person or whether her actions were moral or right, but there is no question that Edna Pontellier went through an awakening in the book The Awakening by Kate Chopin. She was awakened to the idea of independence and freedom. This awakening has many effects on Mrs. Pontellier both physically, socially, and mentally. Though these make her more open and free they ultimately end up causing her demise.
One example of when Freak and Max work together was when they were at the festival. Freak was unable to go to the fireworks, but with Max’s protection he was able to go. Not only was Max his protection, Freak was able to see the fireworks when Max lifted him on his shoulders. When they were down by the fireworks, “There are so many people crowded around, all he can see are feet
Max would carry Freak on his shoulders and Freak would steer him around with his feet and tell him which way to travel. It wouldn’t be like an ordinary walk to the place they were going, Freak would make it like an adventure and he would describe the scene and cover Max’s eyes. Sometimes Max would get dizzy or even fall off the sidewalk because it seemed so real. After many quests Freak and Max’s friendship grew stronger and
It can be very easy to judge someone based on their appearance. During spring break, I had met another member of my family I didn’t know about and to me she looked like she was mean and selfish. We began to hang out more and I started realizing that she was very kind and not mean or selfish. She didn’t only care about herself and I was glad that I met her. She was funny and we all hung out together with my family and played games and looked at rocks on the beach at night. I got to know so much about her that were interesting. Therefore, Rodman Philbrick wrote the book “Freak The Mighty” so that we could learn that looking at somebody doesn’t show who they actually are.
Also, in the book Max is told Freak died at the hospital, by Dr. Spivak after Max said that Freak told him he was getting a bionic body. Dr. Spivak then told him that Kevin knew he would die at a young age. In the movie, Max races up to an ambulance and bangs on the doors until Gwen comes out of the ambulance and tells him what Dr. Spivak told Max in the
In “Superman and Me”, Sherman Alexie shows that low expectations rarely lead to success. Sherman says about himself, “He reads Grapes of Wrath in kindergarten, while other kids are struggling with Dick and Jane.” This shows that at a young age Sherman was excelling at reading and at school. Sherman did not set low expectations for himself, which many high school students do, and went beyond what was expected. Another quote is when Sherman says, “We were Indian children who were expected to be stupid.” Sherman never cared about the stereotypes other people thought of him. He always set the bar high for himself, which many high school students and teenagers do not do. As he kept setting his expectations higher and higher he achieved greater and
This difference is of great cruciality because Max’s courage grows, while defending Kevin from him. There are many differences between The Mighty and Freak the
In the story, Freak and Max become like brothers by how they act toward one another as if they are family. On page 40 Freak states, ‘“We are Freak the Mighty, that’s who we are. We’re nine feet tall, in case you have not noticed’”(Philbrick 40). That statement shows that Freak and Max have a strong bond and they are proud of being friends. Then, on page 87 Max says, ‘“I swear on the dictionary if Freak ever tries to eat Chop Suey again, I’ll dump it on his head or something”’(Philbrick 87). That statement proves to the reader that Max cares for Freak and will do whatever it takes to protect him. Finally, on page 157 Max says to the
because he is always there for Freek. For example, one day Freak was playing in his backyard and he got his ornithopter stuck in the tree. Max went to Freaks house and got the ornithopter for him (page 12). As well as when Max and Freak go to the fireworks alone. Freak is to short to see the fireworks with everyone standing around him, specifically on page 32 Max says “so I just sort of reach down without thinking and pick up Freak and set him on my shoulders.” This proves that Max can be very thoughtful without even thinking in ways that he doesn’t even know. Lastly, when Freak asks Max to go out at 3 in the morning to go digging in a sewer pipe, Max agrees, even though he doesn’t
