Geographical understanding (Introduction)
I am doing my GCSE geography coursework assessment for 25% of my total mark in controlled assessment, the main topic I am encompassing is associated with the CBD of Birmingham, and my task is to research the hypothesis if Birmingham’s CBD has been a more desirable place to work and shop (i.e. the header). I will use secure primary evidence I have conducted and secondary data to reinforce my investigation.
The key concept of the terms definitions I'm discussing is usually defined: Urban Regeneration: To designate (a street) for the use of pedestrians only, disallowing motor vehicles, normally to prohibit traffic conditions.
Environmental Quality: Environmental quality is a set of properties and

Birmingham’s CBD had to endure hardship from lack of customers before the regeneration. This creates problems that CBD’s aren’t able to cope with recessions.
The location I wish to converse is with reference to Birmingham’s CBD, specifically the Bullring, Brindley place and the Mail box. Its original location is in the United Kingdom, in England, in the West Midlands and locally found in the centre of Birmingham:
Birmingham’s CBD
Birmingham is a thriving industrial and commercial centre situated in the heart of England, a highly common urban area that is located in the centre of the west midlands. Birmingham has been regenerating itself visually as well as industrially with developments such as the Mailbox and the recently rebuilt Bull Ring Shopping Centre, making it a striking attractive modern European city.
Birmingham is also authorised by the Birmingham city council, currently one of the largest council in Europe. There are many attractions such as The Jewelry Quarter and Brindley place.
My background in this investigation is also visible, for instance, .questions asked such as;
What were the problems with the CBD?
What has been done/is being done to cure the city’s fear of crime, vandalism and bad reputation in Birmingham’s CBD?
The regeneration for Birmingham’s CBD was needed for a number of reasons (key points):
All will be further discussed in detail though out my
The capital city of England is London. It is also the most populous city in England and the U.K. London is one of the leading global cities in the world, with strengths in art, healthcare, media, tourism as well as research and development. Furthermore, London is also one of the world’s leading financial centres.
The author, Dudley Randall, illustrates the conflict and irony between the mother and her child. The mother only wants to protect her child from the dangers that await her, but the child on the other hand, only wants to be a part of the Freedom March in Birmingham, Alabama. “The Ballad of Birmingham” was written about the real life events of the bombing that took place in Birmingham, Alabama at the church of Martin Luther King, Jr by white terrorists. Though the bombing was tragic and resulted in the death of four innocent African American girls and injuring fourteen
Tucked into the southeast corner of Queensland (otherwise known as the Sunshine State), Brisbane is as nice as it is complex. The city's riverside setting makes it a perfect getaway for travelers, however its popular eatery and nightlife scene will likewise engage those looking for a major
City Heights East is divided by many different ethnicities. There is 54.3% Hispanic, 20.9% Asian, 15% Black, 7.3% White, 2.2% mixed, and 0.3% other. With this data we can see that there is is range of different ethnicities and not one fully overrides other. This is a diverse community with some great cultures throughout. With this comes crime. With a total of about 30 assaults in the past year, there needs to be a sense of community rather than a sense of territory. Within this sections it will review the cost of living, the employment rates, the school’s, and the community organization. These are all important when looking at a specific crime and how to improve it within the community.
In order to understand fully the regeneration of the Stratford area, it is imperative that there is some prior knowledge of how the area has developed over time. As London is the capital of England it has always been at the forefront of development, but other different areas of London have progressed at different speeds, meaning that some areas have been left waiting for regeneration whilst others have already developed. Regeneration is defined as the revitalisation of a place or community. Regeneration is both a process and an outcome . In the 1920s there were many large slums including Old Nichol, situated in Shoreditch. The conditions in the slums were well documented by Irene Barclay, who was a chartered surveyor and wanted to address social need and her actions were well appreciated by
low-density development ... which separates where people live from where they shop, work and recreate – requiring cars to travel between zones.
First, the main issue with these crimes is that nothing is getting done about the burglaries, graffiti, and break ins. Each year there are about fifteen crimes taking place in the neighborhood of Liberty Greens; the summer of 2015 had the highest rate as a crime was taking place almost weekly. Are these crimes going to continue to rise each year? We moved into this neighborhood in the summer of 2005 and since then there have been crimes year after year. One member of the neighborhood, Becky Koporc says, “Bikes were stolen out of our garage the year we moved in, 2006.” Yet crimes are still happening now in 2016. Why? Our neighborhood isn’t being monitored correctly. Not only have these crimes been happening for over ten years, but they have happened at every
Bournemouth is situated in Dorset in the south of England, boarding the world heritage site, the Jurassic coast. It is Dorset’s largest city and is growing rapidly. Founded in 1810 and in 1851 was just a small village of 695 people, and in 2001 its population was recorded at 163 600. The council are expecting around an 11% increase by 2011. Bournemouth is an example of rapid coastalisation.
The crisis in Baltimore city has had a widespread effect on the entire population. Despite, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings ensuring that the security and civil rights of the citizens will be protected; the people of Baltimore have lost faith in those who have the authority to make significant changes within the city. Because of their distrust and constant frustration, the people within the city have decided to riot and cause havoc throughout the neighborhoods of Baltimore. The growing violence within the city of Baltimore shows that the frustration of the people runs deep and it will take a substantial amount of time to correct the issue. Many believe that constant funding will bring about change instantly. There will be change but it will take some time and due to slow progression many become frustrated. The frustration of the people has been compounding due to a variety of things such as lack of employment, minimal funds, and the constant frustration of those in authority i.e. the police. The consistent rioting of the people in Baltimore have led to issues of safety in the area. Those who have decided not to riot must then take refuge within their homes or another safe haven because their safety is being jeopardized. Safety is a huge issue amongst the city of Baltimore and have led to violent crime rates, property crime rates, and unsafe streets.
The bombing in birmingham was devastating for the people living there. A bombing that killed families, children and innocent people all because if racial discrimination. White supremacist had hatred for “negroes” so they bombed a church of innocent people. Not only was a church was bombed but racial riots followed. Many suffered from burns and gashes. Family's suffered from the lost of children.
Birmingham is the most populated city in Alabama. Birmingham was named for Birmingham, England, UK’s major industrial city. It is the only city in the world where the three raw ingredients for steel occur naturally. The ingredients all occur within a ten mile radius. Homeowners rates here are an average of $2,182.
Issues in British inner city estates There is increasing evidence that poverty, unemployment and social stress are all now seen in British Inner Cities. There are many problems which the areas face, both physically and even in some cases mentally: 1.the physical fabric of the buildings, many originally built using cheap materials and methods, is deteriorating rapidly. However the councils are trying to upgrade these poor housing conditions gradually.
However there are still different attitudes to redevelopment, some claim that the scheme was completed with "tremendous optimism” and it’s believed, "The area's beginning to look up, but you do get people saying we will never get out of this rot, that the area's too run down." And physically,
New Urbanism, a burgeoning genre of architecture and city planning, is a movement that has come about only in the past decade. This movement is a response to the proliferation of conventional suburban development (CSD), the most popular form of suburban expansion that has taken place since World War II. Wrote Robert Steuteville, "Lacking a town center or pedestrian scale, CSD spreads out to consume large areas of countryside even as population grows relatively slowly. Automobile use per capita has soared, because a motor vehicle is required for nearly all human transportation"1. New Urbanism, therefore, represents the converse of this planning ideology. It stresses traditional planning, including multi-purpose zoning,
The City of London sometimes referred to as ‘the square mile’ denotes the area within the original old walled city built by the Romans in about AD50.1 One can still see evidence of roman heritage by visiting the London wall, built in around 200AD or the only roman built amphitheatre, which is located under the Guildhall art gallery. 2 Today the City of London is considered one of the leading international business and financial centres of the
