You saw her at the London 2012 Olympics and just recently at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Gabrielle Christina Victoria Douglas is an American artistic gymnast who has won 8 gold medals and 1 silver. She was born in Newport, Virginia on New Year’s Eve of the year 1995. Little did they know, that day Timothy Douglas and Natalie Hawkins brought home a future Olympic champion. It all started when she was six when her mom signed her up at Gymstrada. From there her love of gymnastics just grew. She would train all day and night, full of determination. 8-year-old Gabby won all-around gold at the Virginia State Championships competing level 4. In 2008, the whole country got to see Douglas in Houston, Texas at the US Classic. She received tenth place and went on to the Visa Championships in Massachusetts getting sixteenth place. …show more content…
Although she won the uneven bars at the Pan American Games, and placed fifth overall, she had fractured her wrist the year before. Also, after the Pan American Games, she moved in with the Parton’s away from home to train with Liang Chow in Des Moines, Iowa but strained her hamstring and injured her hip in July that year. In my opinion, Gabby really stepped up her game at this time. Coach Chow even taught her an Amanar vault in just one day. That’s a round off back handspring onto the vault and two and a half twists with a back tuck off the vault. The harder she worked, the more skills she learned. She competed in so many competitions and at the U.S. National Championships she won gold on bars, silver all around and bronze on floor. That’s a lot of medals at just 17, but it all came down the 2012 Olympic Games. She was part of the “Fierce Five” and together, they won gold. As an individual, Douglas was the only one to compete on all four events, and even became the all-around individual champion of the London 2012 Olympic
At the team competition, she delivered impressive performances, scoring 15.100 on the vault, 15.233 on the balance beam and 14.833 on floor exercise, helping the U.S. win gold. Hernandez was now part of the team they call “The Final Five.” The Final Five was the third American team to win gold medals, followed by victories in 1996 and 2012. (Biography)
I have had the privilege to know Allison for the past seven years as her strength and conditioning coach and family friend. In my fifteen years of working with student athletes and adults, I have had the honor and privilege to train hundreds of outstanding athletes. Allison stands out as one of the sharpest, passionate, diligent and reliable student athletes I have ever trained.
When she first started out she felt that she was out of shape and unconditioned. Nevertheless, she practiced a bit before her first tryout and she made it on the J.V team. After she made it, she practiced six days a
Gabby Douglas is true to her beliefs, and her personality shows that she is helpful to the world, and her family and she shows exceptional execution in gymnastics Gabby shows long and beautiful lines specifically in bars, floor, and beam. She is very powerful in the vault, as well. In the text, it states, “I compete for each element with great grace and strength… I will flow beautifully” (Douglas 192). This quotation supports the thesis statement because it shows how Gabby Douglas has long and beautiful lines on the uneven bars. Gabby’s only specialty is the uneven bars, but she occasionally does very well on the balance beam. Gabby Douglas can hit on beam, and when she does, it is an exceptional routine to watch. The text supports this by

Gabby changed gyms and soon became the state champ in 2004 after only four years of formal training (Gabby Douglas). She continually won first at all of the meets (Gabby Douglas).Gabby’s mom noticed that her talent was becoming too much for the gym she was training at. After watching Shawn Johnson at the 2008 Olympics and being compared to Dominique Dawes, one of the greatest African American gymnast, she knew that the Olympics were a perfect fit for her (Schoeller, Martin). The only issue she had with getting to the Olympics was her current coaching. She needed to go to West Des Moines, Iowa to train Liang Chow. He is an elite gymnastics coach known for coaching Shaun Johnson and many other gymnastics icons. With Chow, Gabby could master the necessary skills to be able to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games. Gabby left her home at age 14. Her mom flew with her up to Chow’s Gym and scheduled a meeting with him. There Chow told Gabby that she would be living with a host family for the time she was in Iowa. At the gym that day Missy Parton introduced herself to Gabby as her her host mom (Douglas, Gabrielle). Missy took Gabby home and introduced her to her husband and three girls. Gabby and the girls hit
In Cooper’s universe, every right was based on responsibility. The opportunities that she sought for black girls and boys would provide them with better tools with which to serve their people. “Ultimately, her proud, demanding feminism offered to black men a stronger comrade in a partnership struggling to improve the lives of all African Americans” (Berson, 1994). With today’s broad spectrum of opposing political ideals, climate change is one of the most polarizing and argued points. In an article entitled “Why Some Conservatives Can’t Accept That Climate Change Is Real” by Carolyn Gregoire, we are presented the supposed thought process and biases held by modern conservatives. The author, Carolyn Gregoire, serves as a senior science and health writer at The Huffington Post. Though challenging competency is a common attack used on both sides of the political isle, this piece sidesteps petty mudslinging and instead takes root in the psychological differences between liberals and conservatives. Inherently, as a political piece, this article criticizes the conservative thought camp. In doing so, this article (like a majority of articles on the Huffington Post) is written towards a sympathetic, liberal audience. Pertaining mainly to psychology, there is no doubt logos is the appeal used by the author. Furthermore, with logos often comes strong, inductive reasoning. As we delve deeper into this article, we also will examine and explore several fallacies implemented by the author. Also

Louise Mallard is Kate Chopin short story's protagonist. As noted earlier, Louise has a heart trouble during the time when her friends are to break her husband's death news to her. She reacts to the news despite her heart condition with a flood of grief. She quickly retreats to her room which indicates repressiveness which she is accustomed to. She briefly feels guilt out of experiencing joy at the freedom which is brought by the death of her husband. She is later faced with some complex mix of love and resentment emotions which are elicited by the thoughts of Brently's tenderness with absolute control of her life from her husband. She ultimately welcomes her independence which she has newly found and then takes on the newly self-possessed individual's life. This essay will emphasize my argument on how the story shows some aspect of mental change in character, and I will identify where this starts in the character, what happens to cause the change, what the change is, and the consequences of this change for the character.
