In my earlier high school years I did not plan to go to college. I wanted to join the workforce immediately. I felt like college was not going to benefit me in many ways, but after careful consideration I decided I would be missing out on excellent opportunities if I did not go. I want to attend college not only to obtain a career, but also for all of the opportunities college life will offer me. I am eager to be involved with the college community and to make friends with my peers. I plan to better myself by learning things I never knew or learned in highschool about who I am. I know I have a lot of potential to be someone valuable to the community. Whether it be to a business, the sciences, or medical fields, I know in order to become that

Being a college student comes with some challenges and some of the challenges are trying to keep up with all the assignments, trying to live away from home and the biggest challenge is being financially prepared for college. Being a freshman in college requires a lot of money and when it comes to paying for tuition, textbooks and other college expense, most students are not prepared on how the money should be spent properly. There are college students who live away from home and that increases the amount of money they have to spent to continue going to college. A big part of being a college student is spending money to help with their education because in college nothing is free and everything needs to be bought and succeed in college. In the reading “The reason college costs more than you think” written by Jon Marcus, the author goes over how many students are not financially ready for college and don't know about the different circumstances that can occur that could increase the money needed to continue with school.
“In fall 2016, some 20.5 million students are expected to attend American colleges and universities, constituting an increase of about 5.2 million since fall 2000” (National Center for Education Statistics). That number seems to be rising each and ever year, and it almost seems as students feel like they have to go to college directly after high school. Maybe it is because they feel that they have to fit in, even if college is not for them. Although some students attend college for academics, sports, and other reasons, some students attend college for no apparent reason; with that in mind, students should take into consideration the time and money that is put into going to college.
