The American people are following the popular things on the social media and not truly knowing the credentials of author of any articles. People can hide themselves through social media and write anything that without backing it up. A wolf can use sheep’s clothing in the social media so therefore the American people must be aware of that. Politics for the common man and women is a lot of work to stay informed and life is so full of uncreditable information. The American people sometimes see the Goliath issues that threaten our nation, the constant fight of evil and the snarling realities of people that are in opposition to a biblical worldview of current events. Wicked people sought to suppress and control access to the truth of the Bible, which sounds familiar. Men and women were under vigorous persecution for merely translating a written Bible. Their work hurt no one and yet, these Christians were treated as criminals and persecuted even under the American government. The “establishment church” can be a politician’s greatest enemy, the very people that should have been in support. Christians throughout thousands of years remained faithful, constant and sure unlike the political figures people encounter in the past, present, and future. When the government is in conflict with the Bible, people …show more content…
The Pentagon announces that it would extend 20 new benefits to same-sex military couples, including access to base facilities and groups as well as joint assignments, the latest move by the Obama administration to heed calls from gay and lesbians pressing for change. Activists hailed the move as a meaningful step toward full equality, which they say will remain elusive unless a 1996 federal law [the Defense of Marriage Act] that defines marriage as a heterosexual union is repealed. The new benefits do not include health care coverage for same-sex spouses or on-base housing
Another problem with the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy is that, if discovered, homosexuals will be discharged from the military. The discharge of a homosexual from the military, based on his personal life, is a violation of equal rights. Every human is different, but none should be judged separately based upon who they are. “We find unity in our incredible diversity, drawing on the promise enshrined in our Constitution: the notion that we are all created equal, that no matter who you are or what you look like, if you abide by the law you should be protected by it; that if you adhere to our common values you should be treated no different than anyone else” (Obama 1). This statement shows that the nation does know about equal rights and is pushing for equal rights; therefore, “don’t ask, don’t tell” needs to be repealed for the integrity of our nation.
Another section of this initiative involves changing definitions that restrict who can visit veterans in health care settings. This new definition will allow veterans to determine their own visitors (Sharpe & Uchendu, 2014). The efforts set forth by the Veterans Administration create an opportunity for more inclusive health services for LGBT individuals outside of the VA. With the abolishment of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policies, LBGT veterans are now considered in the services offered at the VA. As the Veterans Health Administration becomes more inclusive, there is potential for the military service policy, excluding enlistment of open transgender individuals, to be abolished (Sharpe & Uchendu, 2014). The VA currently has fifteen facilities
Many people fear politics, regardless of this fear christians need to have an active role in politics, and should be influencing the domestic and international community with their roles. With the founding of the country christians adopted basic biblical rules and used them as the foundation for what our country has become. Recently, the Christian community has turned to attacking foreign groups and those who differ in opinion.Jim Wallis, in his article “Iraq: Humility Is the Best Option” does a wonderful job of explaining why the United States should try approaching terrorism with a humble attitude. I admire the attempts of the christian individuals and politicians who are attempting to deliver this message. Unfortunately, I do not think
Although there were calls by politicians warning church to stop dictating governance of the government. Other denominations felt that evangelical had taken the country and followed backlashes because of scandals of leaders of the church.
The Defense Marriage Act is also known as DOMA. This act has been around for decades and continues to change over the years to shape individuals rights and needs. Individual’s perception of marriage equality is constantly evolving, and the number of government officials that recognize same-sex marriage is constantly changing (Rodriguez & Blumell, 2014). This act not only affects the LGBTQ community and their families, but also affects the whole nation. Many have different opinions on the topic and what should be in the Defense Marriage Act. Some were elated with the recent decision in the summer of 2013 the LGBT community where included in the Defense Marriage Act. This arose when the language of section (2) in the DOMA, was defined as unconstitutional
I don’t think religion has any place in politics, and certainly should not play any important role in government or politics. But America’s conservatives are obsessed with religion, with these GOP candidates perpetually attempting to “out-Christian” each other. It’s quite common to hear conservatives rant about Obama not being “Christian enough” for their liking. Why, then, are they all clamoring to get Trump elected? Trump has been divorced twice and married three times, and recently made some controversial remarks about his Church visits.
Recently, Carter attempted to eliminate the grey area by changing the Pentagon policy to allow transgender Americans to serve openly in the military, with all reassignment costs paid for by the government. The Defense Department policy states if service members’ abilities to serve are hindered by a “medical condition or treatment related to their gender identity,” they will be treated (May). This new policy requires the government to pay for expensive treatments for all transgender Americans. As a result, the number of deployable troops is decreased. The policy also encourages the large possibility of
Imagine being in the heat of war, a place where trust is needed most. Imagine, however, that in the heat of war you cannot trust your fellow soldier because of personal tensions within the unit. It was this problem that the policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was designed to avoid, the tension caused between soldiers when homosexuals are serving openly. Without this policy, homosexuals serving openly could create tension that interferes with the military’s effectiveness. While it may not be obvious at first, the policy of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” actually supports the both values of the military and the rights of homosexuals. As a result, “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” is needed to protect homosexual service members and is crucial in securing
NAE quickly became known as standing for moral and social campaign, and referring to the Bible as the foundation for the American public life policy. That is prevalent in many of evangelicals involved in high level of interaction with the surrounding society and brake the secular system. Ironically, the Protestant evangelical movements in the U.S and the Christian coalition focused their activism mainly on domestic issues that conflicted with the Christian values and beliefs in the late 1970s and the early 1980s with a strong impact on the heart of conservative politics. It is obvious that religious conservatives were central part of the Republican Party and they were becoming the key figures in organization over the country.
President Barack Obama explained to the voters, saying in a statement that the “legislation will help make our Armed Forces even stronger and more inclusive by allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve honestly with integrity.” The bill passed by 234 to 194. This was a major victory for gay rights activists who have opposed the Pentagon Policy since it had been enacted in
This is the church that I grew up in and still regularly attend. I also, attended religion classes in the church, from Kindergarten through the 10th grade. In my experience the church is relatively non-political. I never recall hearing or seeing any endorsement of a candidate or political party at any time during my years at the church. However, there are time that I have noticed political messaging on social issues, particularly abortion. In my church, there is messaging that indicates that congregants should support and protect life. From time to time Pro-life views will be expressed from the pulpit and church members will be asked to pray for the unborn. The most overtly political moment that I can remember came during a religious retreat in ninth grade in preparation for Confirmation. We visited a nearby Catholic Church and listened to a talk by former KSTP-TV Anchor Kalley Yanta. During the talk, she expressed strong Pro-life views and a documentary-like video was shown of a protest of a Twin Cities Planned Parenthood Clinic that Yanta participated in. At the end of the talk, t-shirts that with the words “I stand with Jesus Christ” were handed out to those who wanted ones. This is a statement against Planned Parenthood t-shirts that say “I stand with Planned Parenthood.” Overall, the issue of abortion is only major political issue that I would say my church has been outwardly vocal. Gay
President Obama, during his run for President, promised that if he was elected the military policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell” would be repealed and that homosexuals would be allowed to serve openly in our US military. As we know, Obama was elected and he followed through with his promise as earlier this year the “don’t ask, don’t tell” was repealed. The purpose of this essay is to answer the question, why is this a big deal? How will it work? How will it be implemented in the military? Over the next few pages I hope to provide you insight into this controversial issue by providing you the background surround the laws covering homosexuals serving in the military, the argument from both sides of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal, and finally how the implementation will occur in the military and what will be the problems when they finally put the new rules into effect.
As many may know after the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in 2011 it allowed lesbian, gay, and bisexual troops to serve openly within the U.S.
I'm not here to discuss political parties, or their advantages/disadvantages. If you've seen our videos, you have probably come to your own conclusions of our political beliefs. I want to talk about something far more complex. What role should the Church take in U.S. politics? Should a Pastor/Priest ever endorse a candidate for public office? Or, should an organization that represents Jesus Christ discuss their views on hot-button issues, or demonize those on the other side of the aisle?
A military family living in a state with marriage equality will now receive federal benefits now that DOMA is repeated. These benefits include military health insurance, increased based and housing allowances, relocation assistance, and surviving spousal benefits. The Department of Defense will extend all benefits to same-sex spouses of military personnel. It includes medical, dental, interment at Arlington National Cemetery and Basic Allowance for Housing. For same-sex marriage the Department will implement these benefit changes.
