"Don't be mad now. C'mon guys, get together, don't be so mad now." The classic line for the arranged family group photos. The line my cousins and I always giggle about. The words that constantly slide out of my Grandma Di's lips. This line, always makes me "not be mad now". There are many people in my life whose lives have played a role in my own. One person in particular who I would like to thank for their role in my life is Dianne Elton or as I refer to, Grandma Di. I'd like to thank my Grandma Di for showing me joy through her joy for the arts, her joy of her family, and for her joy of life. First is my grandma's joy for arts. My Grandma Di was an eighth grade English teacher at Spirit Lake Middle School for thirty years. During her time …show more content…
My sister Nora and I would crank the Mama Mia sound track in Grandma's basement and not much longer she would be downstairs with us singing and dancing away. We have also attended this play, Mama Mia, at the University of Arizona a few years back. Recently, my grandma has learned to play the ukulele and has joined a group which is called "The Ukuleladies". My grandma's joy for the arts has taught me to let loose, have fun, sit back, enjoy, and take in the simple things like a great play or a great movie. Thank you Grandma for showing me your joy for arts. Second, is my grandma's joy for her family. My grandma's joy for her family is shown through her kindness and love that she demonstrates. It is difficult to put into words how kind of a person my grandmother is. She is selfless and loving and someone you can count on to be there through every situation, good or bad. On our sixth birthday's me and my other female cousins would receive an American Girl doll from my grandma Di. Once we got our doll my grandma would take the time to read the doll's book with us. What really meant the most to me when getting the doll was how much it
Mom’s decision of not letting us see Grandma one last time was definitely for the best. I thank her today for not letting us in there because now all I see when I think of my grandma is her bright smile that could light up a room full of
"A mentor empowers a person to see a possible future, and make them believe it can be obtained." Mentors and role models are important figures in society, they help people succeed in every which way they choose to endeavor. In general, a good mentor is necessary for someone to dreams like Junior. This is very clear with Junior in the absolutely true diary of a part time Indian. Junior relies on the guidance of his mentors, so they can lead him down a path of success. His geometry teacher, Mr. P, helps Junior to understand the real picture of changing and taking his education at WellPoint. Finally, Grandmother Spirit is a very wise and intelligent grandmother who shares all her wisdom with her grandson. Her thoughts have greatly influenced and shaped Junior into becoming the person who he is at the end of the novel. Junior wants something better for himself and he knows he is not just
Everyone goes through rough patches in their life. Some of these patches are easy to accomplish and easy to get over. Our medicine has gotten better over time, but years ago the survival rate wasn’t that good. My grandma whose name is Linda is a breast cancer survivor and also survived with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Not everyone in this world can say she has have survived cancer this many times, especially with such low survival rates. My Grandma still puts a smile on everyone faces even when she’s in pain. She makes all of her children and grandchildren beautiful quilts, so we can have something to remember her by, if something were to happen. She loves to bake. There isn’t one occasion that there won’t be some type of desert made by her. She has so many beautiful talents.
Broken bones are not painful at all. Pain is Physical suffering or discomfort by illness or injury. In fact, I broken a bone years ago eight to be exact. Fear of hospitals, ghost stories and the anxiety of being alone, broken bones are not painful at all.
Grandma Alice was born on March 1, 1919 in Winnsboro, South Carolina. She was the oldest of five children. After she completed the 6th grade, she went to work, picking cotton. It was hot in the fields. She picked prickly, cotton at the tender age of eleven up until she turned sixteen, the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 excluded agriculture. At sixteen, she became a nannie for a wealthy, white family. Grandma would go on to raise her five children. She made sure that they would enlist in the armed services and/or went to college. She was determined that education was the key to her children’s freedom and independence. Grandma Alice did not experience a lot of freedom and she was denied a good education. I can still hear her say, “…go to
My grandma had survived a hard life, and yet managed to raise four responsible, well-educated, and successful children. All this she did while working as a respected psychiatric nurse and a state mental health board member. Although she had had and was still overcoming trials in life, I always knew she would be there and cared about me and my life. As my brother and I grew older and were unable to visit my grandparents as often as we
It’s the time of year where all people are seen running around trying to gather last minute gifts and meals. Everyone does so in cheerful spirits, especially in the Cozly family. Christmas is Grandma Cozly’s favorite time of the year because everyone in the family always makes this family gathering. All the best foods are made and the most laughs are shared on Christmas since everyone is full of cheer and strong in their faith. However, some family members can become slightly assertive trying to get everyone out the door and to church on time.
My English teacher, Miss Tingley, made us all write about a movie character that we felt connected to. Naturally, I wrote my paper about Matilda. I wrote about how we both loved books and how loving them made us feel different than the rest of our families. After Miss Tingley read my paper we became really close. She gave me tons of books that she thought I would be interested in. I would stay after school in her classroom and talk to her for hours about all of them while she graded papers. I told her her about my past experiences with reading and how I wished that my passion for reading could be useful. She then began to encourage me to become a Rebecca Caudill
My Grandma gave her time freely, when I was young, she would read to me every time we went to her house in St. George. She had a series of nine books, each almost a thousand pages, about the
Overall Gee does so many things that make her who she is. She is beyond an incredible person and she does so many things that a lot of people can't do. She inspires me to work hard and keep trying no matter what. I hope I can be like her when I'm older. I just wanted to thank my grandma for everything. I love her so much and I want her to know
You may think of a hero as a benevolent person with superhuman powers that can stop evil, and save the day. Well in my book a hero is someone who can make the world a better place. Someone who is brave, kind, and noble. Someone like my grandma Ona. She's always been there for me whether it's something simple like showing me how to drive her tractor or feed the ravenous, noisy chickens, to something important like always saying please and thank you, and working hard to do great things, but always staying humble. She's an excellent joker with the funniest stories and always knows what to say or do to make the situation humorous and memorable. A life without her would be like never being able to use the internet. You'd probably go insane. Right? Well that's how I'd feel without my grandma. I'd probably go crazy without her. That's why I'm choosing her to be my Michigan hero.
Paralyzed, that is how I felt. How I have felt ever since the elderly lady injected a toxin into my rear left thigh. A traumatic experience for both of us. Since that horrifying day I have lain here on the floor, unable to move anything but my eyes, listening and watching in fright as she strategically plans and commits crime after crime. Witnessing everything she has accomplished with the bodies. How she acts differently after each terrifying accomplishment. Also how she is getting crazier and starting to talk to herself. Picking up different habits and barely leaving the house anymore.
“She was pleased to have him come and never sorry to see him go.”(Parker). This quote, plus many other quotes and poems shows off Dorothy Parker’s uncanny and sharp writing style. She was a humoristic feminist, and did not have a filter, which was rare for her generation. Her poems were witty and outspoken. Her view on the male/female dynamic was not of the “norm” for her time; she had a disparaging view on relationships. She was apathetic to current women’s rights, roles in the workplace and relationships. The theme that is seen throughout her poems, is feminism. The poems that I will be analyzing by Dorothy Parker are, “General Review of the Sexual Situation”, “Indian Summer”, “Experience”, and “Unfortunate Coincidence”. Parker’s poetry
I am thankful for my grandparents. They turned me into the person I am today. And that will stay with me forever. I´m really lucky theyŕe mine because they always call and see what's going on and always send me candy and stuff for all the holidays. They always give the best hugs and knows exactly what to say to make things better. My grandma can always grow plants with me. My grandpa can always go fishing. They are really awesome.
It is important and necessary that people live a happy life, but it is not a realistic goal to set. Even the slightest bit of happiness can give us the strength to wake up in the morning and do something productive, or anything at all. However, it is not possible to always be content because as human beings, we naturally strive for more and cannot control our emotions at all times. Still, joy can give people the will to survive and motivates them through difficult times because they know there is a bright side, this gives them hope. Sister Dorothy became the hope for many people during her time on Earth, she brought together many, and her story will continue to inspire more to come. She lived a relatively happy, fulfilling life by the side of God and the people that she served.
