Great Gatsby Reflection

After Nick arrives home from a date with Jordan, Nick gets disturbed by Gatsby who tries everything to convince Nick to set up a date with Daisy. Nick finally agrees and invites Daisy for tea. By the time Daisy arrives it starts to rain, Gatsby enters to meet her but it is not successful until a while later they start to warm-up and have a good time. Daisy is the object of desire and passion for Gatsby, she has dominated his life for the past couple years. His original love for her has developed into a love for the idea of her that has let his imagination fill in the blanks which is just setting him up for disappointment. The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is told from the perspective of one of the main characters, Nick Carraway. Nick tells the story of a man named Jay Gatsby, who is his neighbor in the West Egg. Fitzgerald portrays Gatsby as a man who everyone wants to know and copy but deep down are very envious of him. Gatsby trusts few people and those whom he trusts know his life story. To everyone else, he is a mystery. Everyone seems obsessed with Jay Gatsby. For this reason the novel revolves about rumors of Gatsby rather than the truth.

When Gatsby reveals to about his relationship with Daisy, Nick’s relationship with Gatsby takes a full u-turn as it rapidly advances their association from simple acquaintances to close friends. Nick’s outlook of Gatsby undergoes a similar transformation. When Nick learns of the previous relationship between Gatsby and Daisy, Gatsby’s actions make sense to Nick. The mansion, the extravagant parties, and the green light were all in the efforts for making Daisy notice him. Gatsby lives his life for the past life that he lived. He spends his life seeking the attention of his love, Daisy, and as Nick explains, “He wanted to recover something, some idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy. His life had been confused and disordered since then, but if he could once return to a certain starting place and go over it all slowly, he could find out what that thing was…” (Fitzgerald 110). Gatsby sought out the American dream in order to win over the love of Daisy which creates a different perception of himself to Nick. Nick, now knowing Gatsby’s intentions worries about Gatsby’s possible rejection, and then warns him that, “[he] wouldn’t ask too much of her, you can’t repeat the past.” (Fitzgerald 110) But Gatsby, blinded by love, strives to win Nick’s married cousin’s heart.     Summary: The narrator of The Great Gatsby, Nick starts the novel by describing himself and introducing Gatsby, everything he scorns, but strives to be. Nick moves to the West Egg in New York to work in the bond business. Nick goes to Tom and Daisy’s house for dinner one night. Tom is a friends from college and Daisy is Nick’s cousin. Nick finds out about Tom’s lover, and sees Gatsby reaching off in the distance when he arrives home.

As the summer goes on, Nick gets invited to one of Gatsby’s big parties. He meets Jordan at the party and they meet Gatsby himself, a young man, a great smile, and tells everyone “old sport”. Later on in the party Gatsby asks to talk to Jordan Baker alone. Nick learns that the parties were all to get and impress Daisy. Gatsby asks Nick to invite Daisy over to his to tea, so Gatsby can meet her. When Daisy and Gatsby meet each other for the first time in five years it starts off awkward, then they start talking to each other. Gatsby tells her about how rich he is now and invites her over to his house. Daisy and Gatsby then begin the affair between each other as their relationship grows. When Daisy tells hims she cannot claim she does not love her husband Tom, it deflates Gatsby. He can't believe it. But Daisy is also deceitful because she does still love Gatsby but won't confess it either. Tom sees something going on, but in an attempt to prove that Gatsby does not threaten him, he lets Gatsby and Daisy drive together from the city back to their homes in West Egg. This drives turns tragic as well when Gatsby's car hits and kills Myrtle, Tom's lover and Mr. Wilson girlfriend. There is more deception when Gatsby tells everyone it was himself driving the car when in fact it really was Daisy. Tom tells Mr. Wilson about the accident and Mr. Wilson goes mad, killing Gatsby and then himself.

Gatsby and Daisy are driving back from the City and a yellow car hits and kills Mrs. Wilson. Tom does not like Gatsby and they had an argument just an hour or two earlier. Tom hears that a yellow car hit Myrtle, so he automatically implies that it was Gatsby. It was Daisy who actually killed her, but Gatsby was taking the blame. Tom tells Wilson that it was Gatsby that killed his wife.

Nicks first sees Gatsby reaching towards the mysterious green light, which he later realizes is the light at the end of Daisy’s dock. He calls himself an Oxford man, and speaks with a visible fake English accent. Gatsby befriends his neighbor Nick with the sole purpose of using him in order to get closer to daisy. With Nick and Jordan’s help, the two are reunited on a rainy afternoon in Nick’s house. Blindly in love, Gatsby acts like a foolish little boy, knocking down Nick’s clock. The long awaited reunion is later moved to Gatsby’s mansion. There he displays his wealth to Daisy. When he exhibits his imported shirts “suddenly with a strained sound Daisy bent her head into the shirts and began to cry stormily” (98). Daisy’s tears are not because the shirts were beautiful; her tears signify her obsession for wealth and money, which is all she cares about.

Throughout high school a student is required to obtain four credits of English. In these English classes we have read many stories with numerous characters. The story we are reading now is “The Great Gatsby.” In chapter one of this novel there are three main characters- Daisy, Tom, and Nick. This chapter sets the tone for the rest of the story and leads the reader to feel a certain way about each character.

This movie is about, Nick’s fascination with his millionaire neighbor, who he compares his life with. Nick tries to get to know Gatsby better , so he goes to his parties and classifies the atmosphere. The amount of people that come, and most of them are unknown to Gatsby himself. Nick is a curious young man that get’s involved with his cousin daisy’s life. Nick finds out the true meaning of why Gatsby throws such parties and invites unknown people. Very soon Nick learns more about Gatsby and they spend more time together,

Nick and mr Gatsby became close friends and they started talking frequently, mr Gatsby and Nick went to have lunch together, as they spoke to each other, Gatsby tells nick about his past but his story seemed untrue, he claims he's a son of the wealthy deceased parents from the Midwest. He also graduated form Oxford University he even had a picture of him playing cricket as a prove. Gatsby is so famous to the extent that when he got stopped my a policeman when we was speeding, all he did was to shadow them a white card and the police man apologized for stoping him. Gatsby takes nick to lunch and he introduces Nick to Meyer Wolfsheim. Wolfsheim is a shady character with underground business connections. This gives nick the feeling that Mr Gatsby's wealth is not pleasant. after the lunch, Nick saw Jordan, and Jordan told him mr Gatsby and daisy use to love each other then, that mr Gatsby told her, mr Gatsby also said he was in love with her during first world war, daisy love him too but she married
