Growing up today is completely different then growing up in the 1950’s. Back in the 50’s, kids didn’t have the same luxuries as kids do today. Whether it be the difference in technology, the difference and effect of music on the younger generations, or how current and past musical artist have infused teenagers now and then, times have changed with the help of music.
Everyone knows that technology has come a long way then what it used to be. Today, almost every kid has an iPhone, iPod or some type of electronic device. Everyone has a cellphone and the number of house phones that people have are declining. “Research shows that learning the do-re-mis can help children excel in ways beyond the basic ABCs” (Brown). Music is known to motivate people, elevate moods, and can also be useful help when it comes time to study. With there being so many types of music, it can have different effects on people. Take for example Classical music vs Rock’n Roll. Most people don’t listen to classical music unless they are trying to study or are in relaxing quiet area. Rock’n roll music is something you typically don’t listen to when trying to study or listen to in a coffee shop. Rock’n roll is the type of music you listen to when you’re having a good time or just out with friends. During the 50’s, certain music caused a social and cultural change that affected the way we live today. Take for example Elvis. He challenged the status quo and certain trends that shaped not only the youth then, but still today. The way he dressed, the wake he spoke, danced, and what he sang, all had teenagers following his patterns. Younger generations started to shy away from their parents cultural and social category and created their own. Behavior and social interactions are just some of the ways that both younger generations were influenced with certain types of music. Today, kids are creating their own cultural and social category different to what kids did during the 50’s. Both have created their own unique style when it comes to music. Lyrics
