Throughout my time in high school, I have experienced so many wonderful opportunities through different volunteering events, but the one volunteering position that I enjoy the most is my Guest Ambassador position at Wake Med Health and Hospitals. My role as Guest Ambassador is to usher visitors around the hospital, give directions, and assist people to and from their destination. I started this service in my sophomore year of high school and have been doing it every week since then. Being a Guest Ambassador has allowed me to meet so many different people, from all walks of life, and I have grown so much because of it. I was very shy and quiet at the beginning of high school, but this experience has forced me to confront my fear, and be more
As an immigrant in a new country, you will have to adjust in a lot of things. There's culture, the people, the weather and even their way of life. Adapting is a hard process especially if you are unaware of the necessary changes you will have to make. However, the transition process can be easier with the help of an immigration lawyer.
Before lands were set up into fixed colonies, people were free to roam and sail as they pleased. However, this is not to say that discrimination did not exist, and some were killed when they entered into foreign borders. The same holds true today in the United States of America, not necessarily due to discrimination but due to the immigration laws that were put into practice in 1790, beginning with the Naturalization Act. While it is safe precaution to make sure who enters the country and what their motives are, many are being denied the access to the American dream. It is because of this that the U.S. must take a step back and reevaluate their immigration policies.
Before cancer, I hardly spoke in public to people. I was the guy in the back of the crowd talking to only the people I knew for I long time. Now, after cancer, I am the first to raise my hand in front of an audience that I barely know or don’t know at all, if they need a volunteer. I have served on the FFA officer team, where I have to say part of parliamentary procedures in front of an audience consisting of parents and teachers and even special higher up guests. I have competed in many different FFA career development events and leadership development competitions in the FFA many of which you have to get up in front of a group of judges and perform a skit or explain how something is done. In the leadership development events, you have to wait in rooms full of different people from all over across the state of Texas with nothing to do except to talk amongst the people there. At one entomology competition for example, I met the Texas Tech entomology professor. Since, I hope to study entomology at Texas Tech; this helped in getting to know the person who more than likely will be my professor in the future. We talked about how the class works and what the cool and exciting things there are in the
As per usual, I volunteered in the operatory of the Allen Saxe Dental Clinic. Today, I was the only dental assistant working. We had a moderate patient flow, but we seemed to get everybody out in good time. I interacted with the front desk receptionist, hygienists, and the dentists. Usually I would interact with the other pre-dental students volunteering, but today no one but me was there. My favorite dentist was in the office today. She was so happy to see me and she requested that I work with her, even though I was actually initially placed with another doctor. My interactions with the hygienists were no more than just a simple hello and good morning.
Doing something new can be terrifying and freighting. The hardest thing that I’ve had trouble with is doing things in front of people. When onlookers stare at me it makes me feel awkward. The summer of two thousand and eleven, I made the volleyball team at Covington High School so, that meant this would put me in front of a lot of people. My team name was The Lady Lions. The Lady Lions and I have practiced all summer long for our first game. Unfortunately the first Monday of school was my first game. Monday’s arrival at school came fast! The game was at the end of the school day but, the more I thought about it the more nervous it was. This was a new situation for me because I’ve never been in front of a crowd that big.

There are numerous reasons immigrants should be granted access into the United States. However, many individuals in the U.S. do not agree with immigrants being welcomed into the U.S. The reasons behind the beliefs are that immigrants supposedly pose a threat to the states and are leaching off of the U.S economy. It is likely that immigrants are stereotyped against and often forgotten for what they offer to the economy. Not only does business owners benefit from immigrants who work for cheap labor, but immigrants are also responsible for a great portion of the construction workforce, even more immigrants do not pose more of a threat to our country than our own citizens do.
When I was a freshmen, I used to be this shy person who was afraid to take risks both inside and out of the classroom. I barely talked to any other students except for the people in my classes. I didn’t talk unless needed to. Throughout the years, I tried joining different school clubs and groups to meet more people and get rid of my anxiety, but it was hard for me to talk to people for I become anxious all the time. When I talk to people that I don’t really know, I get intimidated and I stutter a lot. Even as a member of a group called Student Leader, where I always talk to parents when there are school events and where I always have to work with school staff, I still get anxious. However, that all changed when I became the president of NHS. I was given a responsibility, and I know I have to do my best to lead this
One of the most life changing failures of my life was not being selected to become an Ambassador for my school for my junior year. At Mount Carmel, being selected as an Ambassador means that you are the most rounded students in the school. Less than half of the students who apply are selected to serve. As I was going through the application process my sophomore year, I thought that I hit all the boxes to become an Ambassador. I was a good student, active in multiple clubs, and I was emerging as a leader in my grade. When I found out I was not accepted to be an Ambassador for junior year, I was heartbroken. I sulked for a while, not understanding why I was not selected. Many of my friends were chosen to become Ambassadors. I kept on comparing myself to them, thinking they had something I did not.
At the age of nine, I joined the Desert Sandblasters 4-H Club. I started out a very shy young girl, who never volunteered to make motions and despised speaking in front of our group when called upon. With my mother’s pressure and support, after a few years I worked up enough courage to run for an officer role, Club Historian Reporter. Considering the position did not require me to speak to people very much, I figured that was a good place to start. After filling many other positions, eventually, I worked my way up to the Club Treasurer. Being treasurer has taught me responsibility and leadership skills. I am definitely not the same person I used to be. There have been times where I froze in front of enormous crowds, although it was embarrassing at the time, it's been a learning experience that has helped me grow, get out of my comfort zone, and improve my public speaking skills. I am way more confident than I have ever been in my life. Now I help the younger members make motions, create my own presentations, and speak to important people. Recently I got the opportunity to meet Indio City Council and accept a proclamation with my fellow officers.
My previous experience I am interacting well with others and being very helpful to those in need, I noticed how easily people were able to approach me because of my cheerful personality and positive attitude. Every Sunday, I have been volunteers as a Sunday school teacher at my church and worked in preschool. I build a good relationship with each child’s parents as well. I have learned
The past semester of being a TAV has brought many interesting experiences and tasks. Over the Christmas break I was able to work several hours helping at the Foundation with newsletters for the first time. I've also worked on different floors of the hospital and tried my best to keep a positive attitude for the patients. It seems like even saying "having a great day!" to all the patients can help lift some of their spirits. Working with some of new sophomores has been beneficial to me because it helped strengthen my leadership capabilities and also allowed me to learn from them. In the next semester, I want to work with more volunteers on different activities while also keeping a positive energy so that I can work to my best ability. Through
While assessing the increasing burden of chronic diseases in counties across California, findings revealed that although San Diego county comprised 9% of the state population, San Diegans incurred nearly 15% of total expenditures for direct medical care of chronic diseases in the state of California. This report indicated that chronic diseases- cancer, heart diseases/stroke, pulmonary disease, diabetes, mental disorders and hypertension, likely contributed to chronic diseases becoming the leading cause of death and disability in San Diego (HHSA, 2009).
I try to complete large projects as quickly as possible while still preserving quality, and I usually need deadlines to motivate me. I am part of the varsity school choir and I participate in many plays because both are team effort environments that have a structured leader. I take direction well, but I am not much of a leader myself. I am passionate about singing, music, reading, and foreign cultures. They are endlessly interesting to me. In this new community, I would want to absorb as much as possible of the ideas to which I would be presented. Normally, I am rather introverted, but acting that way would not bring me the full experience the nation would have to offer. A school year is not really enough to fully immerse myself as it is, but I would like to try to make it as rewarding as possible which means getting involved in my host family's life and become invested in the community, maybe doing community service or taking part in local events to get a feel for the people. I want to know as much as possible. I am preparing myself mentally for emotionally strenuous months, but I am extremely excited. I could wall myself off here, why do so
The father of the guest of honor helps the young lady switch shoes. This tradition is celebrated in the church as well as the reception. She has to wear the watch on her left wrist. It helps to indicate the time, she has dedicated to God and also serves as a reminder that God will arrive and that she has to be
