The sidelining of Harold and the appointment of Carol can be considered an ethical issue because there was no definitive proof as to who would be better at the job since neither had been principal before. There were no facts or data to prove it. It was a subjective decision. The decision was between Carol’s qualification and Harold’s experience. There are several solid arguments out there for and against qualification or experience. Cole, 2014 mentions both sides of the argument. On the side of qualifications, it can be argued that a degree is not just about getting a job/career. The benefits affect all parts of life; intellectual, social, sporting, personal, artistic, ethical, and so much more (Cole 2014). So the belief that obtaining a …show more content…
On the side of experience, Cole says it can be argued that nowadays everyone seems to have a or wants to have a degree. So as more and more people have gained degrees, especially over recent years, employers have become less impressed on the whole, and focused more on experience. If you asked most employers if they would select a raw graduate with 3 years in education but no tangible experience, or a college leaver with 3 years relevant experience, I would expect the vast majority would favor the latter. Though the arguments presented here are not exactly as those at Xanadu high since Carol did have the experience of being vice principal she was never a principal. I think the board felt that although Harold was experienced, the school at its stage of development required a principal who was academically qualified and was up to date with modern methods of management. Though Harold was well known and loved at the school what was needed was someone who would be able to bring about much needed change in accordance with the global trend of education. Harold would have been capable of running the school, but I think they felt Carol was more suited because her appointment spelt change and Xanadu high was yearning for change at that
After being jailed in the Birmingham city jail, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a Baptist minister who preached nonviolence, wrote this response to a published statement by eight fellow clergymen from Alabama. This letter was not only composed under somewhat constricting circumstances but was written in a way that can be analyzed to be considered as a classic argument. Not only does it contain the five elements needed in a rhetorical situation, but the letter includes the six parts of an argument, the five types of claims, and even the three types of proofs. Dr. King’s letter fully satisfies all requirements needed in order to be considered a classic argument.

Likewise, he increases the taxes and make sure they did not enough partner to trade with so that they can gain more profits. To the people in the colonies they felt it was a cheat and violation of “Navigation Act” (Foner 186). Just because they did not have a representative in the parliament. In 1761, James Otis was a lawyer, who stood against the writs of assistance to combat smuggling (Foner 186). The writs were a search houses if there is an evidence of smuggling goods. In addition, some people who do not support the stamp Act oppose it and differentiate between “internal taxes” from the stamp duty, brought about the idea that the parliament do not have the right to impose any thing on them or their trade. Above all, they do not have right to tax American since they do not have

On December 2000, the Carr brothers committed a series of crimes which included the brutal rapping, robbery, kidnaping, and shooting of five young men and women. After a joint sentencing proceeding, a Kansas jury sentenced Reginald and Jonathan Carr to death. On appeal, the Carrs argued that their Eighth Amendment right to an individualized sentencing was violated both by the trial judge’s refusal to separate their cases and the failure to instruct the jury that” mitigating circumstances need not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt”. The Kansas Supreme Court agreed and called off the death sentences by holding that the trial judge failed to do the necessary analysis on the issue. The court also held that the jurors may have been prevented from
From the time Ned enters boarding school, to his time as a code talker, tradition plays an imperative role in the narrative. At first, Navajo traditions and language are virtually beaten out of students in boarding school. A wooden sign at the entrance of the school reads, “Tradition is the enemy of progress” (Bruchac, p.23). At school, the children were told not to even speak their language, and if they were caught, they were punished ruthlessly. As Ned put it, “Anything that belonged to the Navajo way was bad, and our Navajo language was the worst.” (Bruchac, p.23)

On the one hand, King’s speech holds a mostly formal manner throughout. King uses complex sentences and presents arguments in full by introducing, elaborating and concluding, one example from the commencement of his speech, Five score years ago...the Negro is still not free. (cf. App I line x-x). Having structured arguments is indicative of scripted speeches, these scripted speeches typically hold a formal manner throughout; however, this may intentionally deviate, as clear at the beginning of King’s speech when he opens with first person - I - and continues on to directly address the audience. Martin’s aim is the create a relationship with the audience in order to open them up to accepting his ideology, the speech may contain tones of formal text, but the informal aspect with help develop a relationship between participants. This would have been required during King’s speech as many audience members may not have agreed with his views and beliefs due to the high racism of the time.
