A Slave Narrative Fiction is literature in the form of prose, especially short stories and novels, that describes imaginary events and people. Many scholars believed “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl” by Harriet Jacobs was fiction before the early 1980’s. This autobiography tells the world the remarkable life of Harriet Jacobs. The book consists of torture, abuse, and the horrors she suffered as a slave girl. This is a rare look from a firsthand account of a women determined to show the world what was going on during her life. It is evident that this book has much more substance in it than a fiction novel would have in this time. Harriet Jacobs autobiography is written like a novel from the style of writing and the horror stories that are a part of the book. Some of the details in “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl” seem unrealistic and over dramatic which make scholars question the book and wonder if it is a true story. Linda Brent spends seven years hiding in her grandmother’s attic to escape her master. “It was a pent roof, covered with nothing but shingles. […] The garret was only nine feet long and seven wide.
