The life of Hayden Vineyard
On the day of November 30,2000, Jennifer and Travis Vineyard’s second son, Hayden Matthew, was born inside of a room at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. I was born in November, but my parents were expecting me to be born in January of 2001, making me a premature. I was very small as a baby with only being 3 pounds and 15 ounces. I was the smallest baby in my family. As a baby I was hard to handle with not being able to breath on my own, my family was being hopeful that I would survive, the doctors weren’t. And with a little bit of praying, I was able to start breathing on my own. Growing up I had a very joyful childhood filled with friends and sports. My dad used to tell me that I
Millford plantation is a historic place located on SC 261, west of Pinewood, SC. Built in 1839-1841, Millford Plantation is considered by many to be the finest example of Greek revival residential architecture in America. The house is located in such a remote section of rural SC that it comes to a surprise to first time visitors, who must drive over miles of dirt roads and through thick forests to reach the house. The house has massive columns, sixteen foot windows, a domed rotunda enclosing a spectacular staircase. All these impressive features are inherent in Greek Rival architecture (Classical American Homes).
Little Cottonwood Canyon is a site bursting with geological history, rock formations earthquake potential on the fault, prehistoric glacial formations, landslides, and many hazards associated with it. The Wasatch fault is bound to have a enormous earthquake in the future and has left behind numerous scars. The mountains have been engraved by glacial formations dated back to the Ice Age (~14,000 years ago). Rock falls and landslides have left hefty boulders as indication of erosion and moisture in the rocks. The hazards on this mountain range are mass wasting, radon, earthquakes, and flooding of Little Cottonwood Creek.
The original due date for this unborn child was not until three months from this night, however, the doctors had the situation under control. When my mom went into labor prematurely, they had the ability to perform a Cesarean section and give birth to my little sister. This was only the beginning of the adventure for three pounds one ounce Elisabeth Marie Ballard. The first stop on her journey was the NICU to be placed in an incubator to be kept warm and monitored for developmental problems. During the first weeks of her life, she was fed breast milk through a tube that ran from her nose to her stomach. After two months in the NICU incubator, she was finally gained enough weight to go home. This exciting moment did come with a few strings attached. Her weight and vitals still needed to be monitored, so the hospital sent home a machine that allowed them to receive all of her vitals in real time. Her size and prematurity have never stopped her from leading a regular life. Thanks to the technology advancements in the medical field, my sister survived her prematurity and is now leading the life of an annoying six-year-old sibling. Libby, as we call her, transcended the process of natural selection and childhood mortality, and her life is a miracle. The credit can be given to the technology and the people who wield the knowledge
It is 7:11 on Friday night, the first of March 1996, in room 112 of Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine. Married couple, Chris and Veronica Meserve of Steep Falls, Maine are welcoming their second daughter into the world, Shawna Irene Meserve. She will grow to be a physically and developmentally healthy being because of, among many factors such as her genetics, the circumstances and significant relationships surrounding her birth. Starting at the beginning of Shawna’s parents’ relationship, these circumstances and significant relationships surrounding this infant’s birth will be highlighted and analyzed to determine how they may have affected her very early development.
Most students at Harvest Valley show a rather poor understanding of physical boundaries. Why, you ask?
The first farm I want to talk about is Tony Heisterkamp from Akron Apple and Aronia berry farm. He was extremely passionate about what he does. Tony and his wife decided to start an apple orchard because both of them wanted to do something different and get back to farming. They planted their first apple trees in 2006. It was not very long after starting the orchard that Tony discovered aronia berries. He suffered from very bad arthritis and back pain. Nothing would help in the long run; so he decided to give aronia juice a try. Within days of taking the juice he had no pain. Therefore he decided to order some bushes and see if he could get them to grow well. Since they were planted in 2007, they have been able to start up two different businesses for aronia products as well as open a storefront to sell wine and their products.
During my pregnancy I envisioned what it might be like to be a mother; I imagined that I would have a little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, just like I did as a child. I imagined someone calling me mom, watching them take their first steps and letting them have chocolate cake for breakfast. I expected that we would be able to relate to each other, I would teach her (or him) things, and we would grow into friends as my mom and I have. My beautiful son Aries Jayden was born in Edmonton, Alberta at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, on September 18th 2003 at 1:38 am by emergency caesarean. The doctor and other staff realized that something was different about Aries the moment he was born. Aries did not cry and had one eye open and one eye shut.
July 28, 2016 an amazing miracle was welcomed in this world. Isisah Thomas McClain, 6 pounds and 14 ounces. About 7 months ago my lovely sister Ashely has been to doctor after doctor after doctor trying to get help. Every one of them had told her to abort him; they told her that aborting him would be the best choice, because he has Trisomy 13, which the life span is minutes after birth up to two years. His organs would be in the wrong places and his brain wouldn’t have any protection, he did not have a left eye, and so on. Ashley accepted Jesus Christ and prayed hard for Isisah, we all did. This was a difficult decision for her to make, but she put her faith in the Lord and decided to keep Isisah. When isisah was born he was born he served
Noel pushed me in a wheelchair down the long hall and into the small soundproof room where there were so many bells, buzzers, lights, and crying babies I felt immediately overwhelmed. Here sitting next to the incubator where my 4 pounds 8 ounces 11-inch baby girl Jessica lay hooked up to so many little wires and tubes I just burst into tears. This did not look all right and I was scared. Thankfully a very kind nurse assured me this was just precautionary and she would be just fine. She needed a little extra assistance breathing and feeding, but she could do both on her own. During the course of the conversation, I realized it had been not just a few hours I had slept but days. It was now 4 days after my daughter’s birth and I had not yet had the opportunity to touch or hold her. Initially, I felt somewhat cheated out of those first days, but the next 24 hours felt like the longest day of my life.
No one knows what it is like to have a premature baby until you actually have one. It is always upsetting and scary to hear someone else say that their baby was born premature. Unfortunately for Dr. Mark Hachigan, a colorectal surgeon, he is now in the NICU staring down at his son Steven. Steven Hachigan is three months premature. His nourishment is being given through an IV, and his breathing is being helped with a ventilator. Dr. Hachigan starts to ponder on the thought of why his son is recovering so slowly. He is scared and questions the nurses on why his son looks much smaller, and why he is recovering so slowly. His strong surgeon like personality has now turned into a loving, compassionate father who cannot bear to look at his son
“Even though she was only here for a few hours, she had been given the most love,” said Ashley with a warm smile. It ceased and she went on, “She was nothing short of a blessing, but it nearly ripped out my heart letting her go…” Ashley’s firstborn daughter had a neural tube defect; she wasn’t expected to live through the night or even through birth. “It really is hard to give up what you love, but it’s easier knowing she went with our acceptance to someone we love—God.” She looked down to her curled hands in her lap, quiet tears welling in her green eyes. “I miss her. Everyday.”
On July 11, 2011, a 2 pound, tiny baby girl named Alyson was born. Nostalgia crawls into my thoughts as I remember how strange it felt to interact with such a medically fragile, yet unique child. I’ve been around infants before, but this was somewhat new to me. Alyson had a severe problem in her heart, which caused her growth and mind to be delayed. Slowly but surely, I watched Alyson as she grew out of her hospital room and into a home.
The O'Neil’s are a middle-class Irish family living in Brooklyn. On June 27, 2006, their daughter,Sophie, was born at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Sophie was born weighing 5 pounds 15 ounces at 36 weeks of gestation via an emergency c-section. Mrs. O'Neil stated she had an amniocentesis performed at eighteen weeks. At that time, she became aware that Sophie would be born with Down’s syndrome. Mrs.O'Neill explained that there was a scheduled c-section for the week after her actual birth, nevertheless, she went into labor. Sophie was immediately transferred to the neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU) because she was blue due to low oxygen levels at birth; she remained in the NICU for five days. When Sophie was three weeks of age she
