A hero is someone who has given her or his life to something bigger than oneself. A quote from Joseph Campbell, this quote can represent a lot for a definition of what a hero is. A hero is someone who gives something for something they believe is bigger. That's my representative of that quote.

A hero is someone who is admired and valued for their courage, outstanding achievements, and noble qualities. A hero to one person may not be a hero to another. I strongly agree with this definition for a hero to a person is not always a hero to others. In saying this, my hero is Isabelle Bruce Reid because she was the first female to qualify in Australia as a veterinarian. To me, Isabelle Reid was a name in history who changed the world, is valued and is a great role model.

Dictionary.com defines hero as a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character. When someone uses the word “hero,” I think of a person who has done something courageous. Specifically, I automatically think of veterans and the men and women overseas fighting for our freedom. I could never imagine enlisting in the military, but people put their lives on the line everyday to fight for our freedom. Moreover, I think of someone who has won the Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is a distinguished award only presented to a person who went above and beyond the call of duty through some act of bravery. There are many types of heroes (such as the ones in comic books, myths, movies, or even just everyday life heroes) but all of them have perseverance when they’re going through a conflict. Heroes are role models and they’re people that we look up too. They all have unique and special qualities that make one another different from each other. For example policemen battle crime everyday and when they’re overcoming a conflict they have determination, courage and other traits that people admire them for and that make them as a hero. Typically a hero is admired for their achievement/actions and qualities.

Have you ever had someone in your family that has had cancer of some sort? Well I have had somebody and he was strong and brave to fight through it. That is my definition of a hero. Someone that is a fighter and brave, which my grandpa represents. He is a fighter and brave through all of the challenges that has been through throughout his life.

Heroes are brave but they are not selfless and reckless.They concern for other people. Heroes helps others before themselves, not because they want a reward, but they do it for the greater good.
