A Hero is a person who would do anything to protect his people and not expect gratitude afterwards. A person who just does things for praise is not a true hero; they shouldn't expect anything in return. In my mind, the qualities someone would need to be a hero are loyal, kind, empathetic, strong, courageous, kind hearted, and brave. Who I think of as heroic are people that try to make good changes as much as they can, for instance people who try to fight pollution are kind hearted. Or even people who donate to countries in need are empathetic/courageous, in general people who go out of their way to solve world problems are a hero in my mind. My personal heroes are my mom, teachers, mentors, and my uncle. My mom is one of my heroes because she …show more content…
He says “if any mortal asks about his eye, tell him, "Odysseus, raider of cities, took his eye: Laertes' son, whose home is Ithaca." It later causes Polyphemus to grab a hill and throw it onto the boat endangering Odysseus and his crew, and although he missed Polyphemus was still angry, so he brought on the continued wrath of Poseidon. Odysseus also was unfaithful to his wife Penelope, which made him very unloyal towards her. He's unfaithful with two other women, Calypso and Circe, he claims to be held against his will yet he doesn't seem to have minded. With all that, he felt the need to test whether his wife has been loyal, which makes him a hypocrite in my opinion. Some people may say Odysseus is a hero based on his traits, and although he may have some good qualities, I still think he is not. A time in the text where Odysseus seems like a hero during his escape from the cave with his men. He cunningly thought to hide himself and his men under the sheep so that the Cyclops wouldn't see them escaping. In the text he says “so three sheep can convey each man” meaning that they can hide in the stomachs of the

As Christopher Reeve, a famous actor, once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” This quote is basically saying when heroes face obstacles they never give up. They always find a way to push through, or conquer the obstacle. Or they find a way to get around it. They don't just turn around and forget about it. This quote also explains that anyone can be a hero. You don’t have to be rich, or a celebrity. A hero

to be crazy enough to live a little.” ― Criss Jami, Venus in Arms. Growing up I’ve read books that were bigger than me, like mythological books because it had adventures and heroic people that would risk their lives for another. The Iliad, The Odyssey and The Harry Potter series were always my favorite and no matter how many times I read them, I find new things I missed and record the heroic deeds
IMPERFECT HEROES Odysseus and Moses represent the standard hero, which is one scarred with imperfections—a hero that commits crimes, lies, deceives, is in some sense immoral. Moses as an adolescent murdered an Egyptian who was pestering a Hebrew man (Exodus, 45) whereas, Odysseus betrays his faithful wife by having affairs with several women, such as Calypso and Circe. Odysseus’s crave for adventure and Moses’ violence show that both Hebrew culture and Greek culture are accepting of a tarnished
For a hero all what matters the most is fame and undying glory. In general all men including heroes face the same fate no matter how great they were in the human world. Very few exceptions occur like Hercules who is considered the greatest of the Heroes. In his trip to the underworld Odysseus encounters many people not just Agamemnon, Achilles and Heracles. However, these three are special. Agamemnon and Achilles before their death claimed that they were the best Achaeans. While Heracles was a Hero
Heroes are seen in books, ancient stories, and in everyday life. They are known for facing daily challenges and gaining victory. In Edith Hamilton’s myths The Quest of the Golden Fleece and Theseus the characters go through many obstacles to be a hero. Jason and the Argonauts lack intelligence as they get help from Phineus making it easier to be a hero whereas Theseus individually plans his attacks for the challenges he needs to face. It is easier for Jason to be brave as he gets help from Medea
anything we set our mind to. At times in life, some of this potential appears or disappears from events or conflict. Heroes are born and destroyed in conflict. The Odyssey has many heroes and antagonists. Some characters are great heroic men and women that can conquer any obstacle in their way. focusing on men made great by their connection to the divine, either by birth or virtue and merit. Heroes are heroes not only because of their strengths but because of that connection. The Ancient Greeks expected their heroes to be the favored of the gods and their tragic heroes to have fallen out of that favor because that was how their world worked; things happened because the gods wanted them to. Some heroes are born with that connection, having been the children of gods, but others, like Odysseus, are
“Hard times don't create heroes. It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed” – Bob Riley. This quote explains to us that heroes emerge out of society and out of their fears, they overcome the hard times and become great human beings, so what are heroes? Why are they important to their society? And what do they go through to achieve that name? A brief common answer would be, they are people in our society that we look up to, they are favored by divine beings or they might be
can be an ordinary person, but it is their actions that make them true heroes. Heroes are people that make the largest impact in a person’s life and has influenced their life to be better. Heroism can be sticking up for others or putting others before yourself. A big thing that heroes do is helping others not for the benefit of themselves and coming up with clever ideas to get past their challenges. human being is capable of taking action into any situation they are put in. Heroes are within those humans, as they have been given attention for the obstacles they face, not unlike Odysseus, the epic hero in The Odyssey.
