A.) Explain why it is important to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for others (ref. 2.2) It is important to promote appropriate behaviuor and respect for others in the class to create a safe and comfortable learning environment in which learners feel at ease to express their opinion, participate in classroom discussions and activities and ask questions allowing learners to complete their work to the best of their ability and ultimately achieve their goals. Each learner may have different religious or cultural backgrounds and even different learning needs. Therefore it is important to create a learning atmosphere that promotes the appropriate behavior and respect for others. A good way of achieving this positive learning environment
I think that is positive support for the children learning, and spread the positive environment or atmosphere around the classroom. The teachers successfully achieve the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession, which are (5. 5) that say, teachers maintain an environment that is conducive to learning for all students. Also, (5.3) that say, teachers motivate students to work productively and assume responsibility for their own learning. In addition, (1. 3) that says, teachers expect that all students will achieve to their full potential.
On September 30th, 2016, I observed a class at Ramirez Charter School in Lubbock, Texas. I had the opportunity to observe a third grade class led by Mrs. Yu Kim Johnson. She was assisted by a student teacher from Texas Tech, Abby Crutcher. The main focus of this observation was to observe all areas of the school and analyze how each contributes to or distracts from a positive, productive learning environment. Throughout this experience, I was able to get an idea of what could make a classroom negative or positive.
A student’s performance in school gives information about how they are learning, and how they are progressing. Schools in Chicago and New York focused on students success, and if students fail to meet standards that push students to be proficient in common core test teachers are put under pressure when students fail. Teacher accountability has turned into double edged sword that hurts the students and their teachers. A question that is being proposing is should we only hold teachers accountable to students not meeting up to standards that are being set, and how can this be accomplished without turning into a catch twenty two of want teachers to be accountable for their students succeed and teach creatively? How to approach this complicated question is to hold teachers and students accountable for their how things go in the classroom. The education system can only move forward is by empowering students and teachers in a productive and understanding learning environment.
The band relates to WCA’s vision of a positive school culture. It also relates to the school’s mission of growing college bound scholars as it teaches and promotes skills, such as self-discipline to meet a goal, that are necessary to succeed in an academic program and gives students an added skill to include on college applications.
I believe that creating a positive classroom climate is something that needs to be done at the beginning of the school year. If you start the school year off on a bad note then that will often set the tone for the rest of the school year. As the teacher of the classroom I need to have my expectations set for the class prior to them entering my classroom. Having this done before the students come will help to me be sure that I stick to what I expect from my class and not change it once they arrive. I will be sure to focus less on the testing and grading as Alfie Kohn suggests. This is important because if as their future teacher I spend too much time focusing on this it won’t make the students want to learn. As their teacher I need to figure
According to Dunn and Burnett1, the student learning environment consists of all the conditions and forces within an educational setting that impact learning. Shuell2 visualized the student learning environment as a rich psychological soup comprised of cognitive, social, cultural, affective, emotional, motivational and curricular factors, in which teachers and students work together toward learning. Without the correct environmental ingredients, it is very difficult to achieve a satisfactory learning product.
I have lived in Morgan Township my whole life and went to Morgan Elementary as a child. Through these years I have seen first hand how much teachers cared about their students. Many teachers formed one on one relationships with kids including me. Suddenly, the teachers seem more like your friends. This is something that I feel is very important when wanting to have a successful school district. In addition, Ross has always held students to a higher academic standard than most schools in the area. Which I feel in some cases is needed. Ross does an excellent job promoting academic success. Whether it be coming in early for help, or study skills. Ross provides amazing tools for students in achieving this goal. Another truly amazing aspect about
In chapter 7, Creating a Positive School and Classroom Climate, Dr. Kuykendall mentioned many great ideas. The one that I stood out to me the most is the physical layout of a teacher’s classroom. Classroom must not only be comfortable, they must also create an atmosphere in which all students can become excited about their achievement and future goals (p.160). Some physical features that create a warm classroom environment are: colorful decorations with warm colors, positives slogans that empower students, and biographies of minorities that are leaders in society. The physical features mentioned are very prominent between elementary and middle school classrooms from my experience. However, many classrooms lack character between grades 9th
Throughout my life, I have always been pushed to strive for success from the people around me. Grades, co-curricular activities, and service commitments have all been prioritized in my life; which they should be. However, things do not always turn out in my favor. Poor academic performances and failure only seem all the more mortifying in my eyes. As much as I have yearned for success, there has been times in which I have faced downfalls. The problem was, I did not see what I was doing wrong. There was something that I lacked in my learning and it ultimately came down to be grit. Driven by characteristics of perseverance and responsibility, grit is the epitome of an exemplary learning attitude. This year, without a doubt, hasn’t been an easy
The changes that AHS should make to increase their student success is to make their summers shorter and making more school days. In the story, Gladwell talks about this point and states, “but take a look at the following sets of elementary school test scores results, and see if your faith in the value of long summer holidays isn't profoundly shaken.” (6) It's based off how much time you spend in school and how much effort you want to give. Another big thing is the teachers need to motivate the students more and push them to want them to come to school more often. “Alexander tracked the progress of 650 first graders looking how they scored widely in math and reading skills.”(6) Students with talent are worshiped in their society effort is everything.
In order to create a positive classroom culture, teacher need to promote positive relationships between students and with students by taking an interest and have respect for each other. It is extremely important for teacher to get to know the students, their families, and their culture. When a student knows their teacher cares about them, then a relationship of trust will exist between a student and teacher. According to Sayeski and Brown (2011), “teachers who had positive relationships with their student had 31 % fewer discipline problems and rule violations over the course of the year than teachers who did not” (p. 12). In order to know more about them, I will send home a poster board where the students can fill it with any information they would like me and their classmates to know. This constructivist approach gives them the opportunity to be creative and choose what they want to share. The essentialist approach of sending home a questionnaire for the family to fill out will help collect information important to understanding the student. This is the only category where I consider myself an essentialist and constructivist due to how information will be gathered about my students, but this will allow me to build the framework for a positive learning environment for everyone. Having students create a poster will allow their peers to get to know them as an individual. Another way to create a positive environment is having students work together to keep
A positive learning environment requires consistency within the classroom and by the teacher. Rules need to be established in the classroom. Students and teachers need to understand and agree upon the rules and procedures of the classroom.
What do think when you hear student success? Many people think different things. For example, student success could be a student having a good job in something they specialized on, and are living on their own without anybody's help. There are several different ways student succeed and ways to change schools in order for their students to succeed as well in this article. For instance, Anaheim High Schools can improve student success if we have longer school days, make the student be interested in school and on what they are learning, and having more after school programs that interest kids and will keep their minds off of bad things.
Students need to be the priority when it comes to student-centered environments. In today 's classroom it is no longer the teacher instilling one way to solve the math problem into the students. It is the students working cooperatively with the teacher and their classmates to find their own way to solve the math problem. If they can solve a math problem in a way that is unique to the teacher or their classmates and still gets the correct answer that is student-centered learning. There are many steps that need to be taken when creating and teaching a student-centered environment in the classroom. The three main steps are the environment of the classroom, teaching in a way that is student-centered, and assessing students. While these might
