As I walked into the gymnasium, my eyes opened with amazement. I looked to my left, then to my right and observed my surroundings that consisted of gymnastics equipment, multiple gymnastic teams, and judges. I was ecstatic to be there because it was my first time competing in the High School Gymnastics Championship. Therefore, being able to represent my local high school at this competition was a big deal to me, especially as a freshman. Furthermore, I continued to walk to the bench, where I greeted my team and prepared to compete in the competition.
The first three events which are the floor, bars, and vault were a success and I was satisfied with my scores. However, I still needed to perform my last event, which is the beam. In order to
Biomechanics is the application of mechanical analysis to study body movements, this allows for research and developments into everyday activities. Often time biomechanics is used to study different sports and the movements that an athlete would complete in relation to that sport. One sport that there was a desire to do biomechanical research was Gymnastics. Gymnastics is a sport that incorporates full body movements, to better understand the body movements’ biomechanical studies are used. These studies allow for research to be done into how the body moves for a specific movement, then the movement can be optimized being able to improve a gymnasts skills. Also these biomechanical analyses can help understand
Hey coaches, it’s Annicka. I just wanted to thank you all for being the best coaches ever! You've all not only taught me how to be a great gymnast, but a great person. Thank you so much for the great experience on being a gymnast. Throughout my time in gymnastics, I’ve made so many new, great friends at gymnastics! You've all pushed me to be a great athlete. I know it takes a lot of work and stress to be a coach, and all of you are amazing coaches and I thank you for caring about me, and my gymnastics. Gymnastics has really helped me in so many other sports! I have a lot of new opportunities to participate in other sports, and gymnastics has really helped me be a better athlete in all of them! But, i'm sorry to say that I am done with gymnastics.
My biggest regret is that I quit gymnastics. I thought I was going to do cheer but I ended up not doing it because of my family being so busy. I wish I hadn’t quit gymnastics because now I can’t to many things that I used to do like a back-walkover and the splits (left, middle, and right). If I could go back to the day I said I wanted to quit I would and I wouldn’t have said anything to my mom about quitting. Even though going to gymnastics right after school was rough I enjoyed it. I liked being able to come home and show everyone what I learned that day and doing little routines. I also liked having contests with my sister because I knew I would win since I practiced everyday. Since I did competitive gymnastics I had meets on Saturdays and
Our coaches had told us since the beginning that the months and months we would spend preparing for one particular day would all be worth it in the end. Taking place at New Castle Fieldhouse in early March 2015, I competed in the IHSDTA Dance team competition with my fellow teammates and members of the NHS dance team. We walked into the vast, expansive Fieldhouse knowing that it was the largest High School Fieldhouse in the Nation. The anticipation in the air was electric and full of excited chatter of girls who had been preparing for months for this one day… actually for these two minutes.
My apprehension only seemed to grow as the time dragged on. Suddenly, I heard our school name. Adrenaline rushed through me as we ran out onto the mats with gaudy smiles on out faces. The music thundered behind us as we jumped, stunted, and danced. It felt like it was over in a heartbeat. The experience as a whole left me utterly exhausted; so much in fact that when it came time for awards, I was quite frankly too worn out to care. We had done our best and there was nothing we could do to alter our fate at that point. Still, I couldn't help but attempt to play back our performance in my head. "We were nowhere near as natural or well put together as the other teams." I muttered. As it turned out, I was correct. We placed last in our
I utilized gymnastics as my first form of escape and it pushed my geographic borders as far as it pushed my body. I explored the greater Midwest wedged in middle seat of my parents’ Buick Park Avenue. Competitive gymnastics offered me a yellow-brick road straight out of Indiana, and planted dreams of a national team spot or a college scholarship. By 16, my
Have you ever tried something new? If you have then we have something in common. I have tried something new before and it is not that bad.
I have never heard of the Mass Games the North Koreans put on until watching these videos. It was interesting to watch the amount of effort and dedication the North Koreans placed on making these games perfect. You could see that culture played a significant role for the gymnasts who were chosen to participate in these games. Leake & Black (2005) states that culture is values and behaviors that are shared by the same social group for generations (p. 17). From birth, these young ladies have been raised collectivistic culture, within this culture there primary purpose is passion and devotion for their leader, the General. For the gymnasts there motivation is to perform their best and hopefully be seen by the General.
When we arrived I had to pay 10$ to compete and my mom had to pay 5$ to watch. when I needed to warm up so we will do our skills good so we did splits and bridges I first started on beam and the beam was brown and long but thin at the same time. My team were doing warm ups so we did handstands, turn, jumps, and a side handstand off then we started competing. When my team finish competing we went to bars and again we had to do warm ups so we did a pullover a back hip circle and dismount but I didn't have my dismount then so I needed help. Once we were done with our warm ups we competed. Next, we went to floor and also did warm ups we did handstands forward roll, a round off backward roll, and leap pass ,a half turn, jumps and finish. I did my routine and then everyone else did their routine. Lastly, we went to vault and we did a few warm ups like a few handstand flat backs and competed so we had to run and jump on a small trampoline put my hands on a mat and do a handstand and flat back. Finally, awards came so me and my team quickly went to go put on our silver pants and black and white jackets with our
My favorite part of gymnastics was handstands I hate when seaweed touches my feet in the ocean My best friend looks beautiful in colorful dresses My life feels like a large amount of endless cartwheels Failed many times on my skateboard going down a railing There is a club in Washington that only does 2 Step dancing Black folks have an in-depth enjoyment of 2 Step dancing Whoever invented break dancing must had did a lot of handstands
It was a normal ending to a Wednesday practice; stretching our splits on the chalky, ripped mats under the beam. I was sitting in a left leg split directly in front of my coach, who had been my my second mom since the age of three. The air was thick because the chalk eater had been turned off, since the gym closed in five minutes. That's when I knew I had to tell my coach about one of the hardest decision I was going to make. That decision was when I decided to quit the only sport I had ever known; gymnastics. It was a rough practice; we worked our body's to the limit to prepare for our big meet the next weekend. Sweat was swimming down our faces and our hearts were beating rapidly.
At last, we all nervously walked to our spot on stage. By this time I knew Ihad to give it all I had. Not seconds later the music started and we were all doing our routine. We fought for every stunt, tumble pass, and jump before we knew it the routine was over. We ran off stage with excitement, hugging our coaches and each other. At this point we were just proud of each other for hitting the routine.

In an arena full of people with no room for error, the pressure was on and I was not planning on disappointing my supporters today. In a gym full of anxious gymnasts, a once in a lifetime event was about to occur. I was 11 years old; I had a large support group which consisted of my family, my teammates, and my coaches, and I was ready to take on my first regional gymnastics competition. The event lasted all day, and I learned that with hard work and dedication I can achieve anything.
Beam is a tough event in gymnastics, because the smallest mistake can lead to falling off the beam. One fall can ruin an entire routine. The entire season, I had this in mind whenever I was on beam. Since it was the last meet of the season, I decided I would go all out, because it was the last meet and there was nothing to lose. In warm-ups, I landed my leaps, jumps, and turns easily without a single balance check. When I warmed up my back handspring and my back walkover, two skills that I struggled with this
