Sports give students the abilities and opportunities to be successful inside and outside of the classroom and for life. All students should be encouraged to begin sports as early as possible. They have been shown to improve classroom skills, and also life skills. Sports have been shown to improve concentration and teach kids the truth of hard work. Life long skills, such as determination and leadership are also taught through sports. All around sports are nothing but good for a student to grow inside and outside the classroom.

From the beginning of time children have been taught to fall in love with a game. It helps with social skills and you can take those skills into and outside of the classroom. You also make lifelong friends and experience different places (Wilson). Sports teach you how to talk to all different people, which you will need to do throughout your entire life.
Many health benefits are linked to sports. Daily physical activity is known to be the key to a healthy lifestyle. Sports improve heart and brain conditions, lessening the chance of future issues. They also contribute to weight loss or maintaining a healthy weight (Nair). Getting yourself up and motivated is one of the best things you can do for your brain. Just a twenty minute walk increases your learning and concentration ability (Valois). Intercity kids are children in poorly put together cities that are known for needing an extra push. Sports are known to keep children out of trouble and keep them off the streets. A recent new budget cut at CPS School in Chicago eliminated sophomore athletes. They thought by doing this it would cut costs, but instead rose the violence rate through the roof. The amount of students killed went up 30 people and the violence all in all increased. These students usually were preoccupied after school in their sport, but turned to the streets when they had nothing else. At a meeting at the Chicago High School a mother stood and stated that, “For some students, sports can be a way to gain popularity and bond with friends...for intercity kids sports can be literally the difference between life or death” (Reports Chicago). Sports give intercity or lost children a chance. It gives them a sense of pride and belonging. These kids use sports and physical activity to release anger and negativity in a positive way.
