Achievement of lowered crime rates in society is always ideal and it involves citizens to band together to eliminate deviant behavior with the help of government policy makers that create laws to instill fear for displaying reckless behavior. Those with deviant behavior cause violent incidents and many reformationists believed that alcohol caused this behavior. A popular historical example is the 18th amendment, calling for a complete ban of alcohol sales, transportation, and manufacture in the United States. The 18th amendment, also known as Prohibition was created in 1920’s and lasted for a little over a decade. Alcohol consumption was at an extremely high rate and many believed that alcohol was the reason for deviant behavior in society. This controversial amendment wanted to change individual behavior for the better because they believed alcohol increases the chance of recklessness, which can be prevented. In order to achieve that, they wanted to lower the amount of alcohol consumption by using this bill
Imagine having something dear to you, that you and your elders have had for centuries, taken away by the government. That is what the 18th Amendment is and that special thing is Alcohol. The 18th amendment was ratified on January 16th 1919, but it wouldn’t go into effect until January 20th 1920. Ever since Colonists came to America, alcohol has played a major role in the lifestyle of Americans. The 18th Amendment was repealed by the 21st amendment, or its affect was no more. This took place in 1933. The 18th Amendment was controversial because the 18th Amendment both positively, and negatively affected the nation, the amendment came about by people who wanted to prohibit alcohol, and the amendment had more cons to it than pros.
The Eighteenth Amendment was a statute that most American people in the 1920’s ignored.”The Amendment passed both chambers of the U.S congress in December 1917 and was ratified by the requisite three-fourths of the states in January 1919” (Wallenfelt 14). “The amendment emerged from the organized efforts of the temperance movement and Anti-Saloon League, which attributed to alcohol virtually all of society’s ills and led campaigns at the local, state, and national levels to combat its manufacture, sale, distribution, and consumption”(Wallenfeldt 13). “Most of the organized efforts supporting prohibition involved religious coalitions that linked alcohol to immorality, criminality, and, with the even of World War 1, unpatriotic citizenship” (Wallenfeldt

In many ways, the citizens of the United States disregarded the law and still found diverse ways to obtain alcohol. The worsening effects of the Amendment played a vital role in the Prohibition Era, in which the law caused the citizens to encounter themselves in violence and barbarity to our nation. The Amendment also created the arise of leaders including Al Capone in which almost gained power of authority in the city of Chicago in which generated intense brutality to our nation. I definitely agree with the idea that the Prohibition Era offered us the citizens of the United States a warning about the various dangers of the outlaw of alcohol
The 15th amendment was the final step in the constitutional revolution of Reconstruction. It banned states from depriving any citizen of the right to vote as a result of race, color, or previous condition of slavery. The supporters of women’s rights fought hard to include the suffrage for women within the amendment, however nothing came about it.

The nineteenth amendment to the United States Constitution states, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” This amendment was ratified on August eighteenth of 1920 by the Secretary of State, Bainbridge Colby. The amendment did not get ratified till 1920, but the fight for women’s suffrage started long before, in the mid nineteenth century (General Records of the United States Government, 2002). Today many women assume that their right to vote as if it has always; however, this luxury has not long existed. The amendment is not even a hundred year old yet. The nineteenth amendment has great history behind it, strong women who led it, and effects on the way we live our lives today.
For more than a century, women from all over have deliberately confronted and engaged in numerous protests to destroy all restrictions, control and violations in regards to many prejudices made against their gender. Yet, it was not until the mid 1800’s that powerful women such as Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucretia Mott passionately fought and publically spoke for the rights that women deserved as American citizens. Essentially, the movement for women’s full entitlement reached out to an enormous audience with the Seneca Falls convention in New York and inspired the creation of a written stand on political requests by Stanton and other activists, named and remembered as The Declaration of Sentiments. Saying yes to this amendment brings America one step closer to the ideals we all dream about. The government cannot and will not tell the people how to spend
If I had to choose an amendment that I believe is the most important, it would the 19th amendment which states that “…the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex” (National Archives and Records Administration, 2016). The reason I chose this amendment is because it gives women the right to vote, and I like the fact that it essentially put man and woman on the same footing in terms of voting for the one who will represent the country as President. Meanwhile, the amendment that I would like to see repealed is the 26th amendment, which talks about the legal voting age, because I do not someone who is 18 is mature enough to vote any issues pertaining
