“Just your usual, Samantha?”. Jack glances up from his morning paper, allowing his eyes to slowly appraise the woman standing at the counter, taking in the sight of her platinum blonde hair pinned neatly in a bun at the nape of her neck. The usual? From the look of her acrylic nails and well-fitting suit which accentuated her toned body, he was guessing that it was probably a weak, skinny flat-white. Yes, that was it, his eyes glinting with humour at the thought. The woman looked like someone who always got what they wanted when they wanted. His eyebrows furrowing, Jack slams the paper shut, irritated at the thought of someone having so much power at their manicured fingertips. His humble profession as a mechanic was never going to provide him with anything more than the small weekly pay cheque, which all but disappeared after the rent was paid and food was bought. Her phone buzzes incessantly as she fumbles through her wallet, pulling out the …show more content…
There is a man on the concrete steps beside her, his face unshaven and almost skeletal in appearance. His arms are wrapped tightly around his knees, his eyes are the same icy blue of the threadbare blanket on which he sits. The homeless man’s dog jumps up excitedly, generously adorning her face with wet kisses as she bends down. Her face is animated as she converses relaxedly with the man, his pale face lit with the warm glow of contentedness. The two are a welcome beacon of light in the choppy sea of pedestrians, their blank faces staring coldly at the cracked pavement under their feet as walk. The woman reaches into her designer handbag, pulling out what appears to be a sandwich, handing it to the grubby, outstretched hands of the man. His blue eyes are youthful, the eyes of a man no more than a day past thirty, but his skin is weathered and leathery, from the weight of life’s
Homelessness is defined as having no fixed place to sleep at night. This includes people staying in motels until their money runs out, those staying with friends, those staying in shelters, and those sleeping inside or out whatever space they can find to protect themselves. The number of homeless people has been growing and it has become a serious problem in our society. Every night in Canada there are thousands of people living on the streets. This type of behaviour is considered deviant because it does not reflect the norms and values of our society. In many cases the homeless people in our country are treated as total outcasts. Many of these people have severe mental disorders. Some are victims of an economy that has
I walk along the bumpy sidewalk as I begin the daily search for food. This morning, like all others I can remember, I woke to darkness, crawled from the hill, and made the usual trek to this harsh, gray strip. Everyday, I have to forage for food for the colony. I don’t complain, though. Life could be worse. One day, I was scavenging by a red flower bush when a terrible shadow came over me and a massive, white object came down and crushed two legs of one of my co-workers. The white object continued down the sidewalk, alternating with another. They were attached to the bottom of one of the tan beasts we call “hoarders”. I had to help my co-worker back to the hill and then we had to sleep on empty stomachs as punishment for not bringing food.
The issue of homelessness and beggars has been a problem within many countries for hundreds of years. There has been countless proposals and methods for dealing with and solving this matter, but it never works entirely. Some countries have come up with multiple ways to help them with governmental assistance, private organizations, churches or even support groups. However, to see a drastic change in homelessness or any issue, requires a drastic change in the way that is handled. In today’s society, when a child is born unto parents who cannot support them, the Child Protection Services will likely take them to an orphanage where they will in hopes have a better future. However, there are some in other time periods who would suggest something
help but wonder why he is on house arrest. I don’t think much about it, he probably did something harmless, like lighting up in a park. He feeds my dog and waves to me when I get home everyday, but I’m not gonna lie, I do keep my space. Today is different though, I had a really great day, and already in a friendly mood, so when I got home and I saw Mr.Flufferson with him in his front steps I didn’t hesitate to come and grab him. “Hi” “hey” I said. “He was pretty hungry” “thanks for feeding him” I said. It’s nice to see him engaging with me, I love interacting with my neighbors. He asked me to come in for tea, and I mean why not. His house is quaint. It doesn’t look like he’s hosted anyone in years.
A person without a home, and therefore living on the streets is defined as homeless. America has numbers of homeless people living without a home or starving from hunger. The solution to this problem would be the United States providing homeless people with permanent, affordable housing, and wraparound services. Permanent supportive housing will resolve this issue for our country.
Billy was a hopeless creature with a face filled with such desolation that he brought out the humanity in people as they took pity on him. Whenever they walked past his spot on Sixth Avenue they made sure to drop him a coin or two and say a prayer, while ignoring every other penniless person down the street. Even those more unfortunate than him gave him money, one time, a homeless man approached him,
As a kid, I never really paid attention to what blessings were, in fact, it didn't even cross my mind. I grew up in a small house, with my parents and my sister. We loved to walk around a lot and most of the time we would come across homeless people. It was like a routine of ours that we would always give back to the people less fortunate. I remember as I was walking one day with my mom, we came across an old homeless lady and my mom gave her 20 dollars. We were lucky enough to have that much change left after shopping for food and we decided it would be kind to give it to someone else, but this lady was very different from most homeless people. She had bright neon pink nails, gray hair that would create an ombré effect almost as if she got it done, she took the money we gave
'Hmm, guess I'm flying solo.' Anon thought to himself, not wanting to interrupt the moment Twilight and her brother.
There’s no need for a rubbish introduction to start with. I hate my bus, full stop. No strings attached. To be totally honest, there are no positives at all in this presentation. So if you are one of those people who think that there is a good in everything, I suggest that you stop reading this and continue with your life. Goodbye!
Everytime I step out of my apartment I have to be cautious of the trash. It's piled up over the years even in the cities. I walk the packed city streets littered with homeless people it's been this way for sometime now. They are starving on the streets the police have to monitor them to clean up any dead bodies on the sidewalks. It's almost never sunny here the city has been covered by a thick cloud of smog that seems as if it will never go away. The streets are also lined with huge skyscrapers built for the people the government forced to move here. I hate them they are all the same grey cookie cutter buildings no distinction between them. I’m coming home from the food warehouse people are given two meals a day for a month every month. We
An unsettling evening wind started to blow its way through the Central Park. The sun began to set, sending a cascade of colors streaming through the evening sky. The day had started with the normal chaos that a normal Friday had encompassed. John was having difficulty finishing the last piece of business for that day, his mind kept day dreaming towards his lovely wife and wonderful children. As he set in his chair completely exhausted in his tattered office listening to the clock that was ticking in the background, and it approached the wishful hour of five o’clock.

Ludwig looked absolutely pissed. That was the first thing Arthur noticed as the blonde stalked down the halls, hair down for once, clothes askew, and such a strong irritation on his face that Arthur couldn’t help but snort to himself. It looked like someone had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed, Ludwig never let his appearance be thrown together like that. The next thing Arthur noticed, however, was a little more interesting. A small statured man with silver hair, whose head only came to Ludwig’s shoulder, was hanging onto the blonde’s arm, a large grin on his lips. Now who the hell was that? It wasn’t like the Brit had seen him around school before, and Ludwig certainly hadn’t mentioned him.
The homeless stand down was an eye-opener experience for me. I had the opportunity to interact with several individuals, and one family. Initially I conducted some interviews with them to help complete the questionnaire; and the remainder of the time, I escorted the individuals and helped them choose items that were necessary for them. As I talked to each of them, I realized that the present state of these individuals were a product of the current economic situations. According to the National Homeless Coalition (2009), work factors are one of the many reasons why individuals are homeless. One of the individuals that I spoke to informed me that he was working a regular nine to five job at a construction site, but now due to the
Throughout the entire history of human civilization, the prevalence of homelessness has been a challenge to every nation. It might be depressing to learn that no countries today have eradicated homelessness, but the human race is never stopped from trying harder than before to tackle this prolonged issue. As the two leading economic powers, America and China have to face the challenge of reducing homelessness. According to a report written by Nation Coalition for the Homeless, “a study done by the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty which states that approximately 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of them children, are likely to experience homelessness in a given year” in America alone (National Coalition for the Homeless, July
