I was introduced to the game of basketball by my brothers. At first I didn’t like the sport, as football was my passion at the time. Being the youngest sibling however, I always looked up to my brothers, so I wanted to do anything they were doing. I never would’ve guessed the impact basketball would have on my life. I never knew basketball would allow me to travel the world, meet amazing people, and help me grow into the person I am today. Basketball changed my life. The qualities and lessons learned while on the court has helped me overcome many challenges throughout my life. Basketball has shown me that the best way to face adversity is to conquer it as a team. I’ve grasped the true definition of teamwork, and how important it is
One of the activities that I took part in that I feel has shaped me as a person, was basketball. I joined the Sea Point High basketball team in the tenth grade, in South Africa. Now basketball was not very popular in South African high schools, as such we lost our coach in my junior year. The choices that were given to the team was to either end the program or to continue without a coach. As team captain I rallied my teammates and we persevered through without a coach; we showed up for intensive training and competed against other schools. At the end of my senior year I was presented with the basketball player of the year; however I feel that award did not necessarily celebrate my skill in the sport, but it acknowledged the determination and
I have had many opportunities to create relationships and memories that I would otherwise have not have had. The game of basketball has shaped me into a well-rounded and more productive member of my community. Many hours of practice and studying have allowed me to become successful and earn many honorable awards and recognitions from my teachers, coaches, and administrators.
Learning the game of basketball has changed my life for the better. As a little girl, my father believed that I would be an incredible athlete. As soon as I could shoot a basketball, my dad took me to a park to develop my skills. Practicing constantly led me to fall in love with the sport. Basketball became more than just a game, it became a passion. Pursuing this passion has been rewarding, inspiring, and empowering.
I was 12 year old when I started playing basketball. My dream was to be similar to Michael Jordan. However, my GBL team has lost every game since I’ve started playing basketball. I was also playing with my older brother Jeremiah for the first time, but we were always fighting about whose better. I knew this season would bring us together. With a lot of hard work we finally won. It took me and my brother to work together to win.
Basketball doesn’t just do it’s job on the court, every coach that I had has taught me important life lessons from basketball. For example, when a ref calls a bad foul you can’t stay mad because like the weather even though it rains and you don’t want it to you need to learn how to move on and work with what’s given to you. Sports in general help you grow as a person and make friends with many people. I enjoy playing with different people because you get to create a bond with many and be more social around people.
Without some of the things created by people we wouldn't be alive today. The greatest invention is baseball.Baseball changed my life.Baseball is a sport many Americans play today.
Sports gave me confidence and a work ethic that has translated to life. I have traveled to countless states, out of the country, met people from all regions, and had amazing experiences; all credited to basketball. Basketball is a game of discipline and individuals who exhibit success have input a work ethic that exceeds their competition. The Rookie Sensation seeks to position youth to potentially get a free education, learn work ethic, applicable skills that translates to life, convene with other athletes with common goals, and meet successful professionals who used sports as means to success.

In sports you often think about going pro, very few of us will in fact make it there.
Bo Jackson once said “set your goals, and don’t stop till you get there. ”Being in athletics for so many years has had a great deal of influence in my life. It has helped me academically, and it has improved my socialization skills that will later be an asset to me in my journey to pursue a business degree. I now have better time management skills that helps me focus on what I need to do before I get distracted with everything else going on in my life. My involvement in many sports has influenced my appreciation for my family, furthermore it has helped me mature along the way.
On any given sunny day, when flowers were blooming, and grass was growing, there was a game of basketball being played. I sat on my auntie’s porch watching the older teenagers and sometimes adults fearlessly tackle the game as if they were playing for the world championship or at least the national title. The only title gained was bragging rights for the rest of the day. Despite the horrible language, the twisted ankles, and sometimes busted lips, the players continued to show up daily to compete. Although I was a tad bit scrawny for my age, I desperately and eagerly wanted to join the game. I knew then I wanted to learn the sport, and it wasn’t long before I began to do so. Eventually, basketball became a passion as well as therapy for me. Every day, I dreamed of being the next Maya Moore or Skylar Diggins. Although that dream never came to be, my love of the sport continues. There are many players who agree that basketball helped them just by being on the team. Others swear that they learned to make better decisions in their lives because they played the sport as youths. Some experts even suggest that
Playing the game of basketball since I was young, I have been able to learn and gain so much experience. It was almost like a full-time job when it came to playing travel ball and ending with a year of college basketball experience. Being a point guard growing up I was always able to understand what the other 4 players on the court were capable of doing. Having gained that skill, I will be able to understand each individual on the team and be able to understand there strong and weak side.
When I first thought about signing up for basketball camp, all I could think about was improving my game. It was the summer of 2010, and I was going into sixth grade. Even though my friend and I were the two youngest kids going to the camp, we were eager learn new skills and compete with the older participants. But little did we know, basketball would not be the most important thing we took away from the camp. The experiences and memories happened in the next five days would change the rest of my life.
Ever since I was young, I was always taught that sports was always a team effort. You needed to be to trust your teammates whether you’re on or off the field or court. My mother played high school basketball and she described to me how crazy it was in her youth. “Looking back on it, I realized how crazy it was that we took the game so serious instead of just having fun with my friends. I grew up very poor and basketball was my only escape to the reality of the ghetto I resided in.
However, I think that the biggest impact is made by the athletes themselves. Each and every one of the people that I have now come to call some of my bestfriends has taught me something about bravery, courage, and hard work. Everyday they face obstacles that I could not even imagine but always come to basketball with the best attitudes and always work their hardest. They truly make my world brighter on a day to day basis with their jokes, smiles, and positive attitudes. In just playing a simple game of basketball as a team, I have learned more than I think I will anywhere
