Even though he was not perfect, Hamilton did make many important economic decisions that would later impact the future of the U.S. Beginning with he returned to New York, Hamilton finished his studies and worked as a Pro Bono Lawyer, a lawyer who worked without pay, helping ordinary people with everyday problems, (Fowler, Russell). Following this Hamilton attended the Constitutional Convention hinting his support for a strong federal government, which would later lead to the foundation of the Federalist Party, ("Alexander Hamilton." In support of a centralized government, Hamilton worked to change the Articles of Confederation and was one of the authors of the famous Federalist Papers in which he wrote 51 of the 85 essays along with James …show more content…

During his time holding the position of Treasury Secretary, Hamilton decreased the nation's debt by dividing it into two categories, domestic and foreign debt. By 1795, foreign debt was repaid, and 40 years later domestic debt was also repaid. Furthermore, U.S currency grew to hold strong economic value worldwide ( “Alexander Hamilton” Gale Encyclopedia of U.S. Economic History). Along with repaying debt, Hamilton devised the foundation for a Bank of New York ("The Bank of New York Company, Inc.") and a National Bank. The bank held many critics, including James Madison, however it was passed along with Hamilton’s tax and public credit idea in exchange for Hamilton agreeing to help vote for the capital of the United States being near Virginia, as shown in the song The Room Where It Happens (Miller, Daniel T). In addition to his duties as Secretary of the Treasury, Hamilton helped write George Washington’s Farewell Address (Bellesiles, Michael) also shown in the soundtrack song One Last Time, starting a tradition that lives on to this
