The building block of society is the form in which society builds their government. There are so many crucial factors that the reader or the viewer can see in the play The Crucible where they can see that the government is corrupted and built off of social standing rather than justice and equality. Because of the way that the Puritans had their government set up it determines the

entire outcome of The Crucible. This essay will cover the parts for why the government was set up the way that it was. This essay will also talk about the flaws in the Puritan government, and lastly it will discuss why the government was so crucial to the development of the story. Another factor that will be discussed is how the people who were once powerless were able to become so powerful through the trials of witchcraft. This essay will show that it is because of the government that happened the way it happened, and ended the way it ended. Since the government is not based upon democracy, but rather an oligarchy/monarchy, we can see many errors that the lives of innocent people were upon judges and a biased jury duty that had accused so many people through their own biased opinions and through the grudges that they had held.
