The movies ruin the imagination for when read the book is read. They force people to see what directors think certain scenes are supposed to look like, how they think characters names are pronounced, and how they think a character may look and act. The actors are not always like the characters they are supposed to play. It ruins the book because people already have an idea what the character is like in the movie, but they may be different in the
The movie had the power to paint a picture your mind. But it didn't have that information that the book had. The movie didn't have the explaining that the
The Outsiders is a movie and a book written by S.E. Hinton. It takes place around the 1960’s with it’s main character named Ponyboy Curtis and his adventure with Johnny when he kills Bob. The two then go out of the city when they realized the police will be after them and hid in a church at the top of a hill in the country. Johnny decides later on to come back home, but a fire happens in the church with children inside. Both Johnny and Ponyboy go inside to save them, but Johnny is hurt badly while Ponyboy gets knocked out by Dally because of a fire that was on him. They were both taken to the hospital, but Johnny was the one who actually stayed. Later on, Johnny dies with Dally and Ponyboy with him. Dally goes crazy and soon kills himself by a cop and Ponyboy then writes a story of what happen which apparently is the book/movie. Though the book and the movie come from the same idea, they are both still very different.
For instance, the book talks about how the greasers felt and how their feelings were, then in the movie, it didnt talk about it but it showed it. The way that they showed it was not as good as it was written. When reading we don't fall in love with the characters' appearance. We fall in love with their words, their thoughts, and their hearts. We fall in love with their soul. In movies we focus more on appearance and what's going on in the background, which then gets people distracted from what the character is feeling and their thoughts. On the other hand, you can see the actions of the characters in the movie, which might help you process the way they act, however with the book the author can use what he thinks and try to give people a general idea of everything. For an example in the book it talks about how Randy
For example in the film Cheryl runs into two hunters during her search for water, but in the book she encounters the hunters much later in her journey. The hunters go on to ask Cheryl for water. The film combines different events in the book. This is because books tend to be drawn out and films only have a certain amount of time they are allotted. Another reason could be due to the fact that if the film was to show every event in the book many would become bored and lose interest. Omitting certain events allows the film to remain interesting and easy for viewers to follow along with. I think many people would prefer the film version over the book, unless you enjoy reading more in
THE OUTSIDERS final essay The Outsiders is a great novel. It’s setting is the 1960s, and is about young gang member, Ponyboy, and how he dealt with the rich, mean, and cocky socs. All is well until one night when his friend takes everything too far. Although the book is great, there is also a great movie.
The PBS article, on film adaptation, discusses the difference between written text and film and the struggle of adapting a book into a movie. Statistically, 65 percent of all novels are adapted into a film. Stories and novels rely on the narrator to tell the story whereas, films don’t usually have a narrator. Films tend to be way shorter then a novel or story because one frame can be worth six pages of description. Films have a pro side and a con side, one con is that a film takes away your own personal perception while with any written literature, one has their own perception of a certain scenario, what a character looks like, etc. Unlike written literacy, a film has certain limits, for example, time, interaction, money, and
Books give you the opportunity to let your mind make up the pictures about the story, based on how you want. It allows your mind to think outside the box and use your imagination. In a movie or show, the television shows the picture for you, without having to think or question why it is that way. Books also give the reader more details and information about the story, while movies just show it the way they think it should be. Lots of people claim that when you read a book and watch a movie over the same topic, the movie is always better. In that case, you should open a book and dive into your own
Ones perception on a book may or may not be changed once they see the movie produced that is based off of a book. While reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey I was able to visualize how I believed the characters would be in real life. Unlike the book, the movie is presented the way in which the producer views the characters taking away ones sense of imagination. A major difference between the book and the film is the point of view in which the story was told. The book is told in Chief’s point of view and the movie is not. I noticed during the movie there had been some scenes missing but they made sure to include the important ones. Some of the significant ones being McMurphy’s actions of choking Nurse Ratched. I believe
Some people say movies are the way to the heart, but have you ever read a book? Books are way more descriptive than movies because they add so many more important details. Movies are not as descriptive because they try squishing an eleven hour reading into a two hour screening. Finally, movies always leave out important scenes and characters. On the other hand movies are pretty cool because they do have some pretty creative images that you would have never imagined before. The book version of “Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief” is better than the movie version because the book includes characters like Ares, Cerberus, and the Three Kindly Ones.
“One of them laughed , then cussed me out in a low voice. I couldn’t think of anything to say. There just isn’t a whole lot you can say while waiting to get mugged, so I kept my mouth shut”(Hinton pg.5). The Outsiders is a dramatic and enduring work of fiction. The Outsiders contain greasers and socs trying to resolve a problem.
The movie could be about chasing your dreams or overcoming overwhelming odds, and just like a book, this could affect you on a mental level. It could inspire you to accomplish your dreams or aspire to new heights. Just like a non-fictional books, fictional books could do the same thing. According to The Writers Bureau, it is important for children to read fictional books. It can expand their imagination and boost their self confidence. The Writers Bureau says that “ It’ll encourage the children to realise that they can, and should, imagine what they want.” Children should be able to expand their imagination and use their own minds on how they see the
The novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and the movie To Kill a Mockingbird inspired by her novel have many differences. In both the book and the movie a young girl, Scout, and her family are dealing with a town rape case that their father is the defending attorney in. The book is more developed than the movie in plot, characters, and theme layers. In the book the plot flows very well from one event to the next and the plot seems complete.
Most of time books and movies are usually never the same they twist the endings of the stories. Usually the book has a different way of explaining the plot and the movie usually misses to add that part to start the plot. In the last chapter The Great Gatsby it will show how the major parts have been tweaked with and see the differences. Most of what’s being changed will have a huge amount of being said and told.
The movie adaptation and novel version of To Kill a Mockingbird have many similarities between them. Firstly, the characters have the same details about them such as their name, age, and personality. An example of this is Atticus Finch because in the book, he is always acting with integrity and constantly acts like a gentleman. This is shown in the movie as well because the actor who portrays Atticus is always polite. Secondly, some of the lines are exactly the same in the movie and in the book. An example of this would be Atticus’s famous quote: “If you just learn a single trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” Lastly, the book and the movie have the same plot, themes, and ideas. The movie
The movie to kill a mockingbird enhances the novel by bringing it to life. It provides the reader with an easier opportunity to visualize what the author is trying to convey throughout the book. The dialogue is responsible for enhancing the storytelling and helping viewers connect with the characters on a deeper level. It puts the characters from the novel into perspective by bringing them to life helping the reader connect with them more efficiently. Sound effects and music in parts of the film were used to impact the mood within the scenes and used to help draw us as viewers into the film, making us feel like we were actually present. They help the viewer comprehend the feeling the characters have in the book. In both the book and the film
