Football helped me find myself. My whole life I never knew who I truly was. I could never pinpoint if my likes, dislikes, opinions, or decisions were truly being chosen by my own mind, or if they had been solely influenced by someone else's. It felt as if my personality was created from a mixture of others, and it made me feel ungenuine, like a follower. Middle school was coming to an end and I was still absent minded of my true identity. Ironically enough though, before moving on to high school one of my closest friends, Juan, influenced me to make a life changing decision; joining the high school football team. It took some persuasion from him, but as always, I gave in and agreed to practice with the team. The first day of practice came quick and as Juan and I approached …show more content…
My freshman year flew by as I stood on the sideline game after game, not even caring that I wasn't playing. I was so intimidated by other better players on the team that I did not even want to try and get playing time. Just like that, my freshman year of football went to waste, and I wanted change. I started sophomore year with a new plan. I was going to work harder than everyone no matter who they were. The off-season started and I was introduced to our new JV coach, Coach Mike. The intensity of his practices left me to question every day if that practice was more exhausting than the last. Despite the difficulty, I worked as hard as possible every day, and it paid off. I did not know it at the time but I was not just growing physically, but also mentally. Football taught me leadership, sacrifice, discipline, bravery, selflessness, and most importantly, it taught me resilience. Playing football was and still is one of the most difficult things I've experienced, but football brings out one's true character, and for that very reason, I am glad that I was influenced that day into
Playing football was probably one of the most valuable experiences I’ve had in my lifetime. It taught me a lot of things and I learned a lot of lessons. In this writing you will learn what I went through when I was on the football team.
I first began my football experience at the age of six playing city league flag football. I’ve come a long way since then and the sport has greatly helped mold me into the person I am today. It’s taught me to keep pushing through adversity and showed me the utmost importance of communication and teamwork. Through football, I have learned that I am a dedicated, passionate individual with an above average work ethic and a vigorous motor. This sport has affected my life greatly and I love it because of that. This is why I hope to find a perfect academic, athletic, and social fit to continue playing football at the collegiate
If I were to ask any athlete what their favorite memory in their lifetime was, I am sure that most of their responses would include the sport that they play. While baseball and golf are both sports that I participated in throughout my whole life, nothing can compare to the brotherhood and bond that football brought to me. I played football as a small child. I enjoyed the short games and practices because I was able to goof off with my friends. I also began playing football during my sophomore year of high school but quit rather quickly. At this point in time baseball still had my heart and triumphed over football in every way possible. It was not until my senior year at Thomasville High School that I fell in love with the game of football. The team began six a.m. practices in early June. We spent over half of day running, lifting weights, sweating, and puking. There were times that I doubted myself and wanted to quit. The only thing that kept me going was the bond I was creating with my teammates. Football instilled hard work, care for my fellow teammates, and determination to finish everything that I had started in me. Football changed my life for the better.
Looking back as a senior, I’ve come to realize that football is more than just a sport. It’s a test of commitment, but most importantly, it develops character. How many laps of running does it take for me to fold? How many hits am I able to endure before I quit? Football demands courage, to push one beyond their physical and mental capabilities. It has taught me to put others first instead of myself, and despite obstacles in my way, the act of overcoming fear was, and still is, a priority. Along the way, I’ve been given the honor to meet the most passionate individuals while playing the game. These were the same people who lived through the grind and pain since our first practice as a freshman until our final battle as a senior. Whether it
Playing a sport can teach you a lot of things. You will learn more about the sport, but you will also learn more about yourself and grow as a person. I like all sports because of the competitiveness and heart that each athlete puts into their respective sport which really inspires me. Everyone will have their own sport that they’re good at or love, but mine happens to be football. Football is the sport of hard hitting, ankle breaking, spectacular catching, and awesome moments. Being on the football field taught me to love and learn the sport, how to grow as a person and as a team, and also a lesson.
Throughout my high school years, there have been many activities that have shaped me into the person I am today. However, there is one activity that has always stood out over the other ones. Football has given me many experiences that have contributed immensely to my growth. In my underclassmen years, I gained the knowledge of what it meant to be apart of a team. Being apart of something bigger than yourself creates a feeling like no other.
I demonstrated perseverance, diligence, and determination in the face of unfavorable odds. This experience helped me to not only build respect for my teammates and coaches but also to build a sense of willpower. I learned that a team relies not just on one individual, but a multitude of persons, and each one helps contribute to its success. I also learned how to cooperate with a group of people to work towards a common goal. For my dedication and improvement in during the season, I was recognized as the “Most Improved” player on the freshman team.
The most fun I’ve ever had in my entire life, my first football game. I don’t ever want to forget my first football game. It started off with my parents wanting to get food and saying,”Noah! Come here so you won’t get lost!” When I got to my parents my brother was already munching on the popcorn and candy. I told my parents to hurry up or we might miss a good part of the game. I grabbed the lemonade and then hurried to the seats. I was so excited, especially when the Patriots scored and had a 6-0 lead. At the end of the first quarter the Patriots fumbled the ball and the Giants recovered. I was devastated. I was also very nervous about the bet my brother and I made earlier in the day. I bet 20 dollars on the Patriots and he bet 20 dollars
Joining the football it made me a lot less quiet and It opened me and my thoughts up more it overall opened me up more, and it has made my life more enjoyable and fun Because of football this allowed me to make more friends and more people to talk to and life is great.
April 2, 2016, I found myself sitting alongside my brother and uncles in a 75,000 seat arena watching a basketball game in the NCAA Final Four tournament in Houston, Texas. Unlike most of the die hard basketball fans, I was there to watch my dad. For the past 8 years, my dad has been a Division I college basketball referee, and that night he received the honor of officiating one of the Final Four games. Flying around the country five months out of the year, my dad officiates over eighty games in a season. On occasion, I’ve had the opportunity to join him for the games that are close to home. Needless to say, his career has had a profound influence on me through the experiences, opportunities, and values that it has provided.
Playing football has always been a part of who I am. The hard work the dedication and the commitment has impacted me in a positive way. When I was younger I didn’t always realize that I was just having fun and playing football. Today I am viewed by others as respectful responsible and reliable. These traits makes me a good person on and off the field. How I got there has a lot to do with football
My coach came to me saying if I couldn’t play to his standards I would not be able to get back the position I had filled. Throughout those long months of my recovery my mind started drifting and I started to fall into a deep depression. So I decided at that moment to forget about myself and sacrifice my body to play along my classmates for my last season. Now that I look back at the hard times I went through, I realize that without them I would not be the man I am
All the hope I had was lost when I was put in a situation that I wasn’t used to being in, but this experience taught me modesty. During this time I realized things were not going to be handed to me, I have to work harder as life progresses. I was not alone in the ventures of being on the B team in fact, that is where I met some of my closest friends. This is also the time where I started respecting other sports and quit having a single story about how other sports do not demand as much effort. I felt like Adichie’s college roommate in a sense, as I thought that other sports were not as physically demanding as mine. I feel like gaining knowledge other sports helped me understand football better. With this knowledge that I gained I became a well-rounded player and started on my sophomore football
Growing up I had a passion for playing soccer. The love of the sport led me to play from dusk till dawn in our backyard. There was a sense of tranquility about playing at night that I just loved. As I grew up I slowly stopped playing the sport as I increasingly became overwhelmed with school, homework, and other responsibilities. Even though I slowly stopped playing the sport I continued to watch it very attentively. Every Saturday or Sunday I would sit down with my father to watch my favorite soccer team, named Chivas, play against other teams from Mexico. I felt that during these times I could really bond with my father because during a normal week I was not able to see him because of work. I really enjoyed his insight into the games even
Growing up my life has always been heavily influenced by the football club and considered it to be a second home for me. It was a place where I felt I belonged, but was always denied the opportunity to participate in the sport that I had always dreamed of playing. Whilst consistently watching the games being played from the sideline I used to always think to myself how come boys could play football and why girls could not. I was always dedicated going out to the games, attending every training session and analysing the way the game worked. I would vision the play in my imagination. Rain, hail or shine I was always there despite not being able to participate. It was heartbreaking, but I knew one day that it would benefit me somehow. Dad often took me down to the park to kick the ball, and it felt as though nothing else in the world mattered. I was as agile as cheetah hunting its next pray, but no one was able to see my true potential.
