The genre of drama dates back to 5th century B.C. Greece. Drama is a form of writing in which there are many layers, and meanings to a story. Drama is written in the expectation that it is to be performed on a stage for an audience. This is an analysis of dramatic theater, what it is and how it has changed over time. The Theater experience is walking into a room with many people sitting in the direction of a stage. As the curtain on the stage rises there is a set, a house, and the actors appear. The actors begin conversing, like a normal family at home would, but they never address the audience. There is an imaginary “fourth wall” on the stage in which you can see into this house with these actors, but it is as if the actors cannot see you, the audience. During this time it was used in festivals to celebrate the Greek god Dionysus. In the Middle Ages drama was performed on the basis of religious views. Drama really started to thrive during the English Renaissance in the 16th and 17th century. During this time one of the most iconic and remarkable dramatic writers produced most of his work. This man was William Shakespeare. He is best known for “Romeo and Juliet” and “Hamlet”. Modern dramatic writing focus on a many diversity of subjects from religion to love to fantasy. Since the erection of drama there have been many changes to commence. For instance, in the beginning there could only be male actors. All roles in a play were performed by men. The first women to perform in a theatrical production was in William Shakespeare’s “Othello” in the year 1660. Another big change in theater came after the discovery of electricity.
