The Canterbury Tales is a piece of literary work written by Geoffrey Chaucer that involves the stories of a group of pilgrims on their pilgrimage journey. Throughout the book, each pilgrim tells a story in order to win the best story telling contest. The Host, who thought that this contest would be a fun way to pass the time of the pilgrimage, created the contest. He told all of the other Pilgrims the rules of the contest, as well as the reward, which was free dinner in the tavern. According to the book, due to all the pilgrims agreeing to partake in the contest, the reward was an important one to them; many wanted to win, therefore told the best stories that they had. The Host is a man who joins the pilgrims on their pilgrimage as their tour guide. He proves to be a man who wants the pilgrims to be able to enjoy their travels; he does this by finding a way for them to have fun. He shows true compassion when conversing with the other pilgrims due to the fact that he always helps when there is a conflict between others. As well as the fact that he starts jokingly conversation that makes it fun to converse. Then he also welcomes the other pilgrims with bright eyes and a happy attitude. This shows that the Host is a friendly, bright, generous man. His motivation that he has comes from his heart, this shows that he is a good person and only wants the best for the other pilgrims. Also the fact that he starts the story telling contest for the enjoyment of others shows his motivation. It shows that he cares about the pilgrim’s journey and how they experience it. Then the reward that is offered shows how generous he is because the reward is to provide the winner with a free meal. In conclusion, the Host is a happy man who cares about
