Lacrosse was one of many indigenous stick-ball games that was being played by American Indians when the Europeans arrived in the Americas. The name of the sport was given its name by early French settlers, using the generic term for a game played with a ball and a curved stick called a “Crosse”. “Native terminology, however, tends to describe more the technique (cf. Onondaga DEHUNTSHIGWA'ES, "men hit a rounded object") or, especially in the southeast, to underscore the game's aspects of war surrogacy ("little brother of war").” (Vennum) It is most notable from other sports by using a netted racquet, which is used to pick up, pass, throw and ultimately score by throwing the ball past a goal. Women have struggled for more than two centuries to be taken serious as professionals. There should not be a double standard in sports especially if it is loved and played by both genders. Over the years, females have competed against the stereotype of being too fragile both mentally and physically to play strenuous sports. The passion and work ethic of the female professional athletes is just as strong as the males and everyone should be treated equal and be able to have a chance at making a better living for themselves as well as their family. One area that still faces a continual struggle in sports is gender equality. Female
This can be a safety hazard for females in a highly contact sport like football, if society were to allow girls to play on all boy’s teams. Also, Dr. Wallace agrees with this statement, “And in most sports, strength and size make the difference, and these attributes are extremely important to team success. That's why I firmly believe the sexes should be separated in athletics” (www.creators.com).

Lacrosse is defined as a ball game invented by American Indians, now played by two teams who try to propel a ball into each other's goal by means of long-handled hooked sticks that are loosely strung with a kind of netted pouch (Farlex, Inc.). Behind every shot taken in a lacrosse game, elements of biomechanics are implemented. Biomechanics is the “sport science” field that applies the laws of mechanics (movements, body angles, joint positions, etc.), biomedical engineering, and physics (gravity, forces, velocities, etc.) to athletic performance (What is 3D Biomechanics).
“If we allow the sport to go on without helmets then eventually we will have an NFL situation on our hands where we are trying to unwind years worth of denial and neglect while grown women suffer the effects of head injury” (Cochran). Many compare the “friendly” game of women’s lacrosse to the brutal, physical sport of football, but that should not be the case. This is why women must have more protection when playing lacrosse. Checking, concussions, and helmets are all major reasons to supply this gear. Before one can deem women’s lacrosse as dangerous, they must understand the overall concept of the game.
Lacrosse is the oldest team sport in North America, having been played by Native American tribes long before any European had even set foot on the continent. A century after European missionaries discovered the game played by Native Americans, they began to play it themselves, starting in the 18th century. From there, it evolved and grew in popularity from a very savage game that resembled war, into what it is today, a recreational sport played widely in America and other countries. As U.S. Lacrosse literature aptly puts it "Lacrosse is a game born of the North American Indian, christened by the French, adopted and raised by the Canadians, and later dominated by the Americans."

Like the women do not play on the same size field as the men. The women play on a field that is 120 yards long and 70 yards wide. They need a bigger field since they have more players than the men. Unlike the men’s Lacrosse team, the women cannot have any contact at all. If a woman makes full body contact with an opponent it will be called a personal foul. When a personal foul takes place, the player will have to sit out for 1 to 3 minutes depending on what the referees
The stick in lacrosse essentially performs the same role because I use it to attack the opposing team in order to score, but I can also use it to protect my ground, which is the goal. The physical things that I carry in lacrosse are the equipment which protects me and allows me to efficiently perform my role on the field; and all of these things have not changed since I began playing
The book Lacrosse Rules, Tips, Strategy, and Safety by Chris Hayhurst is a nonfiction book all about the sport, lacrosse. This book talks about both girls lacrosse and boys lacrosse. It talks about both the similarities and the differences between boys and girls lacrosse. But I believe they could have added in additional chapter focusing on girls lacrosse. When I say girls lacrosse I am talking about the rules. In boys lacrosse no matter what age you are you are allowed to check another player's stick. If you don't know what checking is it's when one player hits the other player who has the balls stick to try and knock it out and gain possession of the ball. But in girls lacrosse we are not always allowed to do that. Compared to boys lacrosse
Teams trade ends of the field at the end of each quarter. The lacrosse field is shorter and wider than a football field, but many youth and high school lacrosse games are played on football fields. Goals are set 15 yards from the end line. When the ball goes out of bounds the team closest to where the ball goes out gets possession. The crosse is an extension of the player and is used to reach in the out of bounds area to gain possession.
Through the movies viewed in this course this semester, we saw women who were able to play against men and still keep their femininity. Nothing is lost when playing sports not traditionally meant for a particular race or gender. Society must become more understanding when it comes to the sports different types of people play and hinder from stereotyping anyone when they participate and perform well in that sport.
