To begin with, The Hunger Games is the first book in the Hunger Games Trilogy, and is written by Suzanne Collins. First off, the novel takes place in Penem, a make-believe future where the Capital is surrounded by districts. The Districts are like slaves to the Capital, give away resources to the Capital and only keep some resources to themselves; so you can imagine that the districts are very poor. The Capital also forces the districts to give up one boy and girl to go to annual Hunger Games, so to prevent War. Katniss, the main character in the book, ends up being part of the hunger games alongside with Peeta. Katniss then has to fight for her life because there may only be one victor. The Hunger Games, a novel by Suzanne Collins, is the story of 16 years old, Katniss Everdeen, who fights to death for her district. The Hunger Games is an event hosted every year by the Capitol of Panem, where a randomly chosen boy and girl both need to represent each of the twelve districts that the capitol is composed of. When Katniss little sister, Prim, is chosen to be the representative for District twelve, Katniss volunteers to take her place and fight along her male counterpart, Peeta. The reason I choose this book for my book report is because Katniss is not your typical 16 year old girl. Not only is she her family’s provider but she’s also skillful, strong, rebellious, and unsentimental heroine. These are characteristics that society would mostly link to a 16 year old boy rather than a girl.

One of my favorite movies is the Hunger Games, based off of one of my all time favorite book series, the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. More specifically the main character Katniss Everdeen shows through out the Movie the Hunger Games and its sequels all of the values that I go by in my life. One of the repetitive themes in the Hunger Games and it's sequels is the moral idea of giving ones or risking ones own life for others. I was raised based on the big value of loyalty buts was also raised to care for all of those around me and to even love my enemies.
Very often people assume that watching the movie version of a book is equivalent to reading it. In some cases, this is true, but many times the director of the movie takes artistic liberties. Through the director’s discretion many details changed in movies are according to his or her taste and style of directing. Certain aspects of the film were effective in conveying some themes, as others were not as successful. Gary Ross, the director of The Hunger Games (2012), chose to interpret the book traditionally, which stays faithful to the plot and character traits of Suzanne Collin’s work, but, restructures the plot reveals and pacing of the book.
What makes a good adaptation from book to film? Is it how they made it easier for people who have never read the book to understand the story? Is it about how much they cut from the original material and added to the film? Or could it be based how many necessary changes they had made to the film from the book? All of these were shown in the 2012 movie the Hunger Games, so in this paper I will be going over how the Hunger Games was a successful adaption from the book.
