I lay in the grass,
As wind whistles in my ear
I listen for the sounds of nature,
And then I hear it
A faint voice in the wind
Low, deep, rich voice
It calls to me,
Come and climb me
Come and touch my branches and leaves
Let me hold you in my arms, I hear it say
I walk to where I hear this sound
And find a beautiful, tall tree
I run my fingers over the bark and feel a power
I feel a bond between me and the tree
Almost like a magnet
A calm feeling comes over me
And I just know it,
This is my
You decided take a hike through the woods you know the area so you not going to get to lost. You head out the door and head for the woods you find a hike trail and follow it. You hear the crunching of leaves under your feet sounds of nature all around you as you continue to go along the trail. You find a trail going up and up as you go up it finally comes to an abrupt end there's a bench you sit on it and look out and see a huge forest. A lush green forest sprawled out in front of you the sun's rays illuminating certain parts of the forest you see trees swaying back and forth from the breeze. It's quite beautiful you stay there until the sun start setting and you realize you have to head back nothing else you can do so you had back. You see
I was in a place I was not familiar with, however, I would soon fall in love with. When I stepped off the giant steel contraption, I was greeted with a hot summer’s air. We then got into an old rusty van with the stench of cigarettes. Two hours later we finally reached our destination. Our destination was no resort on an island. Our destination was a small village out in seclusion. We walked around the village meeting the natives. As we was walking, I looked over my shoulder and saw a young lady. I glanced at her feet and noticed the red dirt overtaking the color of her skin. My preacher and I went over to her mud hut and told her about Jesus Christ. As my preacher was speaking, a little girl peaked her head out from her momma’s tattered skirt. I motioned her to approach me and handed her some candy. Her little smooth hands snatched the candy from mine. I welcomed her with a big grin and she returned with the same. Just to see one little girl smile made my entire
My family and I are riding in the car, getting very impatient. We are about 1 mile away. We drive on a very twisty road to get there. I can see the big, bumpy, waves roll into the big cement wall. I can see the big Island in front of the lake house. As we turn the corner I can see the lake house. My family is standing outside in their pajamas still, waiting to see us. Driving down the street I see tons of trees and cars everywhere. As we
On a cold summer night the sun was shining brightly in the sky. The sounds of bears were given to my ears in the breeze as it came through the forest trees. Wolfs could be seen in the tree line hunting their pray. Feeling the rugged rocks that you tread on. Fresh air smells like pine scents with a glowing spray of a river. There was a spiritual being present that made my heart quicken and my body became still. HE came to show the way for HE is the truth, the way, and the life for through HIM we well shall see the face of GOD. This started my first step into what is a fantastic journey is exciting yet wondering what is gone to happen. Each step brings peace no matter what the challenge is because HE leads me. Some search to find a round their
I hold her hand and I breathe. Mountain Retreat Four am too soon. Waiting for you to wake I watch three deer, walking slowly in a row. Sun up -- moon up.
I have grown tall and seen many things. I’ve seen babies being brought home and growing up into children, to teens, to adults and having their own kids. I’ve watched homes being torn down and rebuilt into better ones. I’ve seen cars speeding down the street and sometimes they run into another car. A child tosses a football to their friend and loses the ball in my branches. They try to get it down by tossing another ball at it and hope the other falls down. A little girl hangs onto my low branch and kicks her feet up my trunk to climb as high as she can. A small toddler hides behind me as her sister looks for her in a game of hide-and-seek. A father puts a rope sing on my arm so his little boy can fly up to the sky.
In Woodchucks, a poem by Maxine Kumin, a gardener is having problems with woodchucks invading her garden. She attempts to kill the woodchucks with cyanide gas, but the Woodchucks wouldn’t die. The pacifist gardener, resorts to violence and shoots the woodchucks with a rifle. She was hoping for an easy solution but ended up going against her peace loving ways and turned violent. Throughout the poem, Maxine Kumin slowly reveals the underlying meaning of her writing. Kumin emphasizes that there are violent thoughts and tendencies in every individual by referencing real life events, by escalading the tone of the poem, and by using a series of literary devices.
The world is a beautiful place to live in blissful ignorance. The grassy meadows, the alluring sunset and the serene waters are a few of many scenery that beguile human beings into believing that the world is beautiful. Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s life experiences as an orphan and a soldier in World War II had shown him the flaws of society that has existed in many generations such as hunger, death and inequality. To raise consciousness of the world, he used his literature to achieve this goal. In the didactic poem, “The World is a Beautiful Place”, Lawrence Ferlinghetti reveals the brutal truth of the world in order to break the narrow-minded and ignorant outlook people have towards the world. Many poetic devices were used to emphasize the theme of the poem. Repetition and imagery was used to remind the readers of the underlying bitter tone of the poem while showcasing the different life scenes in the world. Enjambment was also used throughout the poem to
Music is what allows many to relax and clear their minds but Haruki Muarakami uses it in his writing to add another layer of complexity. In a novel filled with complicated human emotions, ambiguous endings, and constant symbolism Murakami also adds in a multitude of musical references most prominently from the band The Beatles. While it’s easy to overlook these references as unimportant character traits it becomes apparent as the novel continues that music is purposely bound to this novel for a distinctive purpose. In the novel Norwegian Wood by Haruki Marakami music is used to mirror characters, foreshadow, and be used as dramatic irony.
Humanity is but a facet of the sublime macrocosm that is the world’s landscapes. In the relationship between man and landscape, nature is perpetually authoritarian. In her free-verse poems, The Hawthorn Hedge, (1945) and Flame-Tree in a Quarry (1949), Judith Wright illustrates the how refusal to engage with this environment is detrimental to one’s sense of self, and the relentless endurance of the Australian landscape. This overwhelming force of nature is mirrored in JMW Turner’s Romantic artwork, Fishermen at Sea (1796). Both Wright and Turner utilise their respective texts to allegorise the unequal relationship between people and the unforgiving landscape.
It was a great bright summer afternoon in the woods. The only ones that were there was me and my mind left there to sit and ponder on the old wooden tree stump. The stump belonged to an old oak tree that used to rise above all the other trees in the woods but it does that no longer. The air was cool but it mixed together with warm sun creating a zone that the temp was just right. As I sat on the stump I thought about what was around me, what I heard, what I could feel. I felt at peace so at peace that I almost lost myself in what felt like a different reality one without thought one without worries. The birds sang around me along with the trees leaves dancing in the wind... it all was in a way putting me in some sort of trans. Everything was
This morning I was walking through the woods. The leaves and trees brushing up against my long brown hair. The morning breeze blowing through my long luscious hair. There is a dark path ahead so I walk through it. It has beautiful scenery and so many gorgeous animals as you walk into it. Summer is coming to an end and the leaves are starting to change into bright colors, which makes the whole view prettier. Then, all of the sudden I come upon something amazing and shiny, and it catches my eye so I go right over to it.
As I stroll along, I could feel the soft smooth sand under my feet. The sand was very hot and I walked through it felt like I was walking on a burning grill. The sand was mixed with a different coloured shells. The light from the sun shined on the shell which reflected onto me creating a rainbow. My foot was making marks on the beach as I took every step, these marks remained there until the water came and erased it away. As I kept walking, I looked around and it felt like I was having the best time of life. The bright shining sun went through my cold skin and give me a feeling of excitement. When I kept walking I could see the birds roaming around the sky like a pack of wolves making irritating squeaky noises as it is hungry and trying to find its prey. The sky turned from dark blue sky to a bright shimmery blue sky. Soft, fluffy big clouds were covering the sky, as it started to split away. As it split away, the sun restored and shined on the waves and the cold water started boiling. As these waves dashed, the noises soothed me every time.
I was still on one of the upper bases of the mountain by my calculations and had just taken my first steps when unexpectedly; I heard a voice call out. It said, “Hey,” from somewhere behind me. I then quickly turned around having been somewhat startled and saw that there was a girl now standing there nestled amongst the birches. She then called out to me, “Hey, what are you doing here?” and I was again taken a little aback by her, but then when I saw her crack a small smile I felt my heart begin to slow. She then walked towards me weaving between the birches, almost strolling.
The wind is soft but strong, my hair flowing behind me and also in my face, I don’t bother to pull it back because I forgot my hair tie at home. “I could stay here forever,” I say to myself. I am at my favorite place to be when I need time to myself. I found this place when I was thirteen and have been coming back since then. It is on the very top of the highest hill there is in the camp and there is a beautiful old tree that has been there forever, I climb to the top and just stare.
