Immigration Immigration is the movement of persons legally and illegally into the United States and has been one of the major sources of cultural change and population growth in the nation. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 47 million immigrants in the United States which translates to approximately 19% of the population. The issue of immigration is controversial in the United States because even though the immigrants contribute directly to the economic development of the nation, there is always a chance that one of them may commit an act of violence or terror and this may result in loss of lives and destruction of property. Due to this, the government has enforced strict immigration policy in order to regulate the manner in which immigrants are admitted in the nation. There are different topics that are related to the issue of immigration. Some of the topics include federalism, news media, interest groups, political parties, public opinions, political participation, Congress, Presidency, the Supreme Court and the Bureaucracy. The four topics selected for this paper include Supreme Court, News Media, Federalism and the Congress.
Supreme Court and Immigration Law The Supreme Court has been involved in interpreting the different immigration legislations.
