The first immigration police I would like to address if the idea that “It's just as easy for immigrants to enter the contrary legal today as it was for my ancestors.” This quote is very powerful and expresses the idea that it is just easy to enter the contrary in morderen time as it was in the past, but I find this to be false for example “the skills need in America today are drastically different from the skill need the past.”(Stier, ken). For example in the pasted the united States need people to build and expanded to keep allowing the US to grow and develop. Nowadays the skills need have changed drastically, we are not looking for everyday joe to working fast food restaurants. The US is looking for doctors and engineers to start diagnosing …show more content…
First I would like to refer to “Immigrants take undesirable jobs that many Americans would not do” (Most Common Jobs Held by Immigrants in Each US State). Immigrants take jobs like fruit picking, maids, taxi driver, and laborers. Many of these job Americans find unpleasing and would not want to do. Not to mation immigrants take low paying jobs that many Americans would not perform. Form a article written by Greenhouse, Steven “ The average immigrant working in america makes between 5-7 dollars a hour”. Many Americans would never work for such little pay as a primary source of income. Americans view their time worth more money than immigrants that are happy just to find job. This brings me to my last point “Without immigrants there would be a shortage of jobs” (The Issue Is the Cornerstone of Trump's Candidacy). We look at all of the low paying and undesirable jobs that immigrant hold, and imagine what would happen if we did not have them to perform them. There would be a major job shortage and leave many services people take for granted in shambles. Industries like farming and hospitalities would be left short handed and not be able to keep up with the ever growing demand. This brings me to the argument that many nativist American bring up. They claim that we do not need immigrants in the work force because the jobs they have could be filled by american workers. The problem is the economy would take a huge beating. “Trump's policy would cause the economy to shrink by $1 trillion” (The Issue Is the Cornerstone of Trump's Candidacy). If we fill the jobs that immigrants do for very little pay with Americans that expect a lot more pay, what happens is the cost of good increases drastically. Companies still need to make a profit and to do this with american workers they have to increase the cost of the good they are selling. Which mean the consumer has
Immigration-related discussions could always cause vehement debates and arouse ambivalent feelings among both policy makers and the general public. On the one hand, we appreciate that immigrants contribute to cultural diversity, social vibrancy and economic prosperity; on the other hand, we sometimes could not resist to express our concerns and complaints about how immigrants constantly drive competition in job markets, put strain on public resources, and pose threats to social peace. Although classical economic model predicts with the expansion of labor force caused by increasing immigrants, wages or per capita income will fall and living standards will deteriorate, there might be a subgroup of immigrants who could, in contrast,
Imagine putting yourself in the shoes of an illegal immigrant. You have to feed your family, get money to pay the rent, and prevent getting caught from immigration authorities. The consequences for getting caught could include deportation or serving time in jail. 11 million undocumented immigrants currently live in the United States and have a family to take care of. Families caught under pressure in their own country might not have a choice but to enter a country illegally. Others would say that immigration laws should not let illegal immigrants into the US regardless of the circumstances, but these Immigration laws are unorganized and broken because millions of undocumented
There are many hotly debated and contentious issues today. Issues that people often find themselves arguing about with their friends, or something that people have a very strong presupposed belief of. But none more hotly debated or more querulous perhaps, than our immigration system. Very few issues have the magnitude and aptitude to tear an entire nation apart, and this is one of them. As with every struggle, there are two point of views. There are those that welcome the cultural differences and the economical possibilities that immigrants bring with them, along with their traditions and their work ethic. On the opposite side, there are those that view them as a potential threat to our barely recovering economy and to their American way of
Solving the immigration problem in 300 words is going to be extremely hard, considering it has been 140 years since the United States created its first immigration stance with the removal of the open-door policy, and we still have problems with the laws surrounding immigration. I am going to focus specifically on changing the major flaws in our system and am going to leave the details vague. My first target would be in changing the laws regarding the guest worker program. If we want to hire workers from other countries to come and work for US companies, I feel like the workers should be considered American citizens. The book highlights poor working conditions and lack of workers' representation if they are injured on the job. If citizens of
Immigrants come to the United States to live the American Dream. The dream of equal opportunity to achieve success through hard work and determination. Unfortunately, the majority of immigrants are not legally eligible to live in America. However, these immigrants go against the laws in the United States. Without having the opportunity to pass to the border legally, most of these immigrants choose to go through the toughest mission to enter America. They go through many obstacles such as, crossing rivers with depths up to sixty feet, walking long distances of a desert, and climbing mountains. Some immigrants succeed in crossing the border, while others die on their way due to dehydration and starvation. Although, they go through a tough journey, they are living in America with the fear of being deported. This later becomes a big impact for families.
Immigration reform is one of the most pressing issues confronting United States Legislators. Do you know why illegal immigrants come to America or any other country? Why is the matter illegal? Some say they leave their home country for a better life and work while others may say for religious reasons or just to get away. Some come for more opportunities and education and a better way of life. What is really the incentive for this? Do you agree or disagree with the law that an illegal immigrant must be demoted back to their country or origin. Do you have sympathy for such actions or are you completely against it? Hopefully if I give you the logical enough reason I can open your eyes and mind to obtain some of my reasons about illegal immigrants.
matter what we do, illegal immigrants would be allowed to become citizen under the bill S.2611. Additionally, undocumented immigrants won’t depress wages and will not underdetermine the law (Nathan Thornburgh, Senior Editor of TIME magazine). Similarity to President Barack Obama, President George W. Bush stated that we should give undocumented immigrants who have been paying taxes and working for a long time a change to become citizen with a fair process. However, he did not support amnesty because it will motivate other people to come. According to The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) stated that there are fine principles to supports comprehensive immigration reform: “1) enforcement that is conducted sensibly, effectively, in a manner consistent
yes many people come here wanting change in government and what not but that should not represent all muslims and arabs. My family came here as war refugees we have never once wanted this country to change in anyway. It is often common for many groups/races to want change in certain government aspects and it is common throughout history one book about the immigration to America actually speaks about this in many forms. Now NOT all people that come to this country do not expect change nor do they want this country to change. Many people come here trying to escape certain regimes of theirs prior country and are welcome change, much like my family. Now please when you generalize all people that come here make sure you understand not everyone wants
Out of all the controversial topics facing our nation now, immigration reform remains one of the most controversial. Many sides argue that immigration helps boost a nation up, but others have argued that it doesn’t help our nation or its people out. Diversity was and always will be America's strong suit when compared to the rest of the world. One issue that has always been controversial however is immigration reform. Many countries have adopted different techniques to combat this issue, but many share the same concern: the cost and the risks of having illegal immigrants. Today we are here to state that illegal immigration doesn’t help us yet in many cases, it hinders natural-born citizens of this country by forcing them to pay for and defend
America, the greatest country in the world. Beautiful, prosperous, and technologically advanced are all qualities that come to mind when a person thinks about the United States. But no matter how great a country may seem, there is always a problem gnawing at it, wearing it away. For the United states one of the main things eating through the greatness is illegal immigration, mainly across the Mexican border. Several proposals have been made to protect the Mexican border such as deportation of the current illegals, the creation of a wall, and increased security around the border. Although all of these may be valid points, I believe some would work better than others.
For centuries ordinary citizens of the world have left the only homes they’ve ever known and ventured to lands that promised the opportunities that their homeland lacked. Immigration has been a part of American culture since the very beginning when The Mayflower landed in Jamestown. In fact, the United States had no federal laws restricting immigration until 1875. (https://openborders.info/us-specific-pro-immigration-arguments/) So from 1620 until 1875, two hundred fifty-five years, there were open borders. As a blossoming country, we welcomed those from all over, allowing them to freely come into the country without an ounce of paperwork and make a home. We are a nation of immigrants, and the fact that in the last century we’ve closed our doors to so many people is a shame.
I do not see a major issue with the legal immigration process. I think the main issues, as presented, are securing the border and the handling illegal immigrants.
Immigration in America has changed a lot over the years. Back in the Plymouth plantation time sailors had trouble traveling because of seasickness and very high winds. In one ship a large group of sailors sets sail for Holland for a religious free place that would be in what they now call New England. After they had fair winds and weather for a season, they encountered some dangerous storms and winds that the ship crudely shake. The ship had some troubles from the winds and waves of water crashing onto the ship but made it through just fine.
Being an immigrant in the US, fortunately legal, gives me the access to the immigrant community--legal and illegal. I have heard so many stories that make me question the fairness of the immigration system specifically and the United States generally. One year ago, my colleague’s wife was able to get a U.S/ visa. She traveled with their kids, who were Americans by birth, to the U.S.A. At the airport, the immigration officer gave her a three month stay. After the three months were over, she had to stay on illegally. The immigration found out. INS (The United States Immigration and Naturalization Service) wanted to deport the mother and canceled the father’s application for permanent residency. So far this may seem ok, but here comes the shock.
The past cannot be impinged on, no matter how much it’s understood. Historians due to the chance of being labeled avoid Anachronistic. There are ways to avoid being anachronism is to observe the language in all aspects. We are a nation of immigrants, which has shaped politics, run our government and have been involved in wars.
