In this aspect it can be beneficial because being able to identify someone based on gender, ethnicity, culture, etc. you can make assumptions of customary greetings or how to approach a particular situation or custom. Throughout our American society, there have been topics, or more specifically, issues, that have been implemented in our lives. Whether it be poverty, economic issues, equality, and thus forth, there is one what has always been around for centuries, but has made a bigger impact is stereotyping. It was just the average day in a small Syrian town just days after the Paris bombing. They were already on their way out when they were caught in heavy artillery where everything was destroyed. Their was a very thick smog like haze in the air. They ran around everyone was covered in blood and dust from the buildings. They were picked up and carried to a truck full of kids. Everyone on the back of the truck everyone was bleeding, crying, and most didn’t know what to think. Amar and Andy both woke up on a boat packed tight with lots of other refugees. There are many places where jokes are appreciated. At a friend's house, a comedy club, or a family gathering, jokes are common, and even expected. However, there are many places where jokes should not be told. Places such as a classroom, a serious dinner, and a business meeting, are not good settings for jokes and laughter. I think it is important to learn when and where to tell jokes, not to always seek attention, and know what jokes are appropriate for your setting.
When I think about New York I think of happiness. Loud, busy, fast paced, happiness. Being from New York I considered myself and everyone else in my family to be a New Yorker. According to Oxford English Dictionary being a New York refers to a person who was born or lives in New York. I was not born in New York, but I was raised there for a lot of my childhood. Plus all of my sisters and father were born there, and a lot of my extended family still live there. The state of New York has always seemed like a perfect home to me; although, a lot of outsiders do not see it as perfect.
