            The Declaration of Independence drafted by Thomas Jefferson and adopted by the Second Continental Congress expresses the thirteen American colonies desire to disjoin from Great Britain. Chapter 4 of “After the Fact,” entitled Declaring Independence, presents factual viewpoints of historians as well as thorough examinations aroused from the possible confusions of the renowned document.

After reading Dave Barry’s essay entitled “Independence Day” I can tell Dave has a caustic tone about this holiday. One of the reasons I believe that he has this tone is when he was talking about the menu for the evening. He said for the traditional menu you would have “hamburgers so undercooked that when people try to eat them, they leap off the plate and frolic on the lawn like otters.” Another place that Dave was sarcastic is when he stated that our grandparents generation time spent on cranking homemade ice cream was the cause of The Great Depression.      The British colonies of North America took their beginnings in the early part of the sixteen hundreds. At that time Virginia and New England became the first regions to be settled by the English. It was the birth of America as a whole, but it also was the beginnings of two distinct ways of life. The terrorists were 19 militants that were associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden, from Saudi Arabia that carried out suicide attacks against targets in the U.S. A third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field (history.com). If I had been living in the English colonies at the time of the Second Continental Congress, I would have been willing to support the Declaration of Independence in July, 1776 because the people of the United States of America had been putting up with an inoperable government, the King of Britain, King George the third wanted to take all the power away from the people and would not listen to our leaders. The colonists, had to pay unfair taxes, and the King was a cruel, unfair man.

In the Declaration of Independence it states that all men and woman are created equal. Although that some may consider the ideal more important. Unalienable Rights, Rights to alter or abolish government, and consent of government none of these ideals would be able to happen in America if we didn’t have equality.

During my senior year of high school, Berkmar High School celebrated its 50th year anniversary with the 2nd annual “Patriot Day”. Patriot Day is an event that was created to unite the community members of the Berkmar Cluster.
