People can change your point of view of things due to the influence of other peers. Guy Montag used to be a book burning fireman, and due to Clarisse influence on him he is now a independent knowledge seeker. In Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse, the burned lady, and Professor Faber helped him become the person he was in the end of the book. After meeting Clarisse, Guy Montag begins to question things about his daily life that he unfortunately never realized before. Before he crossed paths with Clarisse, Guy Montag burned books, and lived as if he was sentenced to the degradation of individual freedom around him. In “Fahrenheit 451”, Clarisse states “So many people are. Afraid of firemen, I mean. But you’re just a man, after all…” (pg.7) Clarisse expresses that firemen are not the best people to be around, that people are terrified of them, so the citizens do not keep books in their home. This is the point in the story that gets Guy Montag to realize that he had his own point of view. This unspecified lady stayed in her burning house and burned with her books. Professor Faber was an English Professor until all the books was banned. Guy Montag wanted Professor Faber to help him read, and understand books. Professor Faber guides Montag through his transformation and leading the protagonist to explore the books he reestablished. In Fahrenheit 451, Professor Faber states, “ Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means texture.
