With a long distance phone call, I interviewed my grandma. Maria de Jesus, a 76-years-old elderly woman, lives in a small ranch in Nayarit, Mexico. Living in Mexico might seem like a wonderful vacation, but not in her case. Maria lives in a ranch where poverty is high and food is limited. She struggles day-to-day to survive in a hot humid environment. From everyone in my family, I decided to interview my grandma because her conditions are heart breaking.
I started the interview with straightforward questions. I asked her about her health and I asked her about her pain. She is currently taking a medication that is controlling her diabetes. Since she has been diagnosed with diabetes for more than ten years, I wanted to know more. I asked if she remembers why or how did she develop type 2 diabetes. During that time, Maria was under a lot of pressure. Her mother and her sister had recently died and her husband was making less than $70 per week. She was constantly worried that her life was falling apart. When I asked her about pain, my grandma told me she has chest pain. Due to her pain, she recently found out that she is diagnosed with

My grandma said that most dental clinics are 6-12 hours away from where she lives. If I happen to see my grandma in the clinic, I would be very precaution with the procedures. Being that her health is critical at this moment, I would wait a couple of months to see her. Once she is ready, I would schedule her appointment in the morning to help keep her sugar level in a constant range. I would avoid using local anesthetics until her heart and kidneys get better. Since it’s been almost two decades that Maria has not been to a dental clinic, I would clearly explain all the procedures to her. I would reduce any stress during the appointment and I would place her in an upright position. With all these procedures being done, it would benefit her
Initially, I was worried about covering everything that was required in terms of client information in the interview. I thought that it would take too long, and that I wouldn’t be able to have a conversation with the client, and instead I would just be asking questions one by one. As the interview proceeded, and I focused on using open and closed questions, I realized that the session would go quite smoothly. Alex was really willing to discuss her medical and psychological background, and made it clear that why she was meeting with a case manager. I found it easy to initiate the session, and was able to ease into discussion about her concerns and objectives.
Perfecto Flores was a mysterious man which no one knew much about before his arrival to the town. Not even he seemed to know much about his past. In an excerpt from Helena Maria Virmontes’s novel, Under the Feet of Jesus, Perfecto helps a young girl on her quest for knowledge and developing the necessary skills. The young girl’s name was Estrella and she had much to learn. Viramontes’s use of tone smoothly expresses the realization and then transition that takes place in Estrella as she strives to learn more.

“What happened?” is what I started my interview with. “Well,” my aunt said and she explained her story. She was at the barn alone riding her horse on christmas day of 2015. Everything went well and she headed home to get ready for dinner with some friends. As soon as she got home, she had a gut feeling that something wasn’t
This is a narrative of one Mexican American woman’s experiences and her views on the importance of passing down the cultural beliefs of her ancestors. In the section of the country in which I live there is a large population within the community of Mexican American culture. Although I have frequent contact with people of Mexican American heritage either through employment or interaction out in the community, I have a limited understanding of their culture. For this reason, I chose to learn more about the population of people I have frequent contact with and as a professional work with as clients in the field of mental health counseling. The quest of finding someone knowledgeable to discuss the population, their cultural background and some of their necessities, as well as some past experiences, led me towards contacting a church. This took calling two different churches before the person at the second church informed me that I needed to speak with, Mrs. Socorro Garcia head of their Hispanic Ministries. Unfortunately, Mrs. Garcia was on vacation when I called, but I was able to speak with her over the phone the following week, setting up an interview in person at her office a couple days later. This was a relief because I was becoming concerned about locating someone for a personal interview.
The interview was not extraordinary. One thing I struggled with was not knowing how in depth I was supposed to go in the interview. In IPE it was always that we were meeting the patient for the first time so we needed to try to get a full history, but the patient today was a follow up so I didn’t know what was appropriate to ask . I decided it was easier (and better practice anyway) to stick to what I knew and go through as if I needed to get a full history.
Grandmother Maria and Grandfather Felipe came to the United States to work in the railroads in Oklahoma, and then the steel mills in Gary. During the Depression, Maria’s grandmother wanted to leave the US and return to Mexico. Maria’s mother, Josephina, was three years old at the time. They had four children together but had not yet officially gotten married. Her grandfather refused to leave so her Grandmother returned to Guadalajara, Mexico without him, taking the children. He refused to send money to her to help support the children so her grandmother essentially raised the children alone. She did laundry and whatever work she could find to support her family, still it was very

In the novel “Under the Feet of Jesus” Helena Maria Viramontes describes a little girl named Estrella who doesn’t like school very much because it’s confusing. But as the story goes on Perfecto sparks Estrella’s interest into tools and this helps her realize the importance of school and reading. Through the use of detail and similes Viramontes shows how Estrella became interested into learning to read when at first the alphabet was confusing to her and school was a dreadful place to be. Viramontes uses detail to show Estrella’s transition. When Estrella first opened the tool box “, the funny- shaped objects, seemed as confusing and foreign as the alphabet she could not decipher” showing that Estrella is struggling in school because she can’t
Carmina salazar works at a prison and is like a cop. As i facetimed her, i was nervous that she would not answer because she is always busy. She normally doesn't answer because she works all day. I was also sacred she would answer because she was one of the people in florida without power as a result of the hurricane. When she did answer i was ecstatic because we hadn't talked in awhile. I told why i had called her and she was very happy that i had picked her. She asked me why i didn't pick my mom, i told her i picked her because she had more experience. We started the interview. I asked her how the people she hung around with affected her school work. She paused as if she didn't know what to say. She noted that she was older than most of the kids so it didn't affect her.
Mrs. Perez was a lovely lady that loved her family a lot and really like to enjoy things in life. She always wanted to do things on her own and not be dependent of anyone. Really independent lady, enjoys bowling and spending times with friends and her family. She’s from a small town in Texas called Brownsville, that’s really close to the border of Mexico so you know it’s a struggle. People have to work hard to have a better lifestyle for their families. That’s exactly what Mrs. Perez tries to do for her family but it didn’t really work out while her husband was alive.
Mexican culture is colorful and rich, enriched with pride and heritage. Family values and strong moral constitution have sustained the culture for hundreds of years. I have had the pleasure to interact and consort with the Mexican culture most of my life in the business that I'm in. Dedication and hard work are the stables that bound the stigma of the Mexican culture. Being that I truly honor the culture I have chosen a friend of mine that I work with to perform my interview upon. My interviewee is Maria Dimas; she was born in Cancun Mexico but has lived most of her life in the United States.
“Under the Feet of Jesus” is a novel by Helena Maria Viramontes, which is about an immigrant little girl who has trouble learning from educators that only pay attention to her physical dirty appearance. Estrella is the main character of this excerpt and she is introduced as someone who is angered for not knowing or learning as she should. In the beginning, Estrella was filled with rage from being denied the information she longed to know. After only receiving attention about her looking as if she did not bathe, Estrella cane to the realization that words can be very cruel. Eventually, Estrella met Perfecto Flores, who actually sat and explained to her the names and functions of certain tools which made Estrella understand the essential essence
The purpose of the assignment was to interview another person and record it, then later analyze how well you used interview techniques. The interview was to last fifteen minutes and discuss why your interviewee had decided to choose a career in the health field.
The name of the person I decided to do the ethnographic interview project on was Antonia, I chose Antonia to be the interviewee because I wanted to get to know her better. We’ve known each other since high school but never had the opportunity to speak on a personal level prior to the interview. She appeared to be open and comfortable to talk about her culture and seemed to have plenty of knowledge about her culture. The interview took place on December 01 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in her apartment in Clovis, I asked to meet there because it would be familiar and a safe place for her. Antonia was easy to talk to, interesting, and friendly. I was under the impression that Antonia would not be
