In the short story “The Cask of Amontillado” written by Edgar Allen Poe, Poe shows a lot of irony it is very dark and unnerving, disturbing. Throughout the story there are several parts that prove this. The first paragraph is talking about Montresor wanting to get revenge against Fortunato. That is why the mood of this story is very depressing and dark. The imagery that Poe uses in “The Cask of Amontillado” shows how disturbed Montresor is. “I continued, as was my wont, to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation.” This quote is saying that he smiled and acted like nothing was wrong while Montresor planned Fortunato’s death.
