Atticus Finch, a citizen of a small town called Maycomb, was many things at once. He was a very trustworthy person, which made him one of Maycomb County’s best lawyers. Tom has been accused of rape and Atticus FInch is his best hope. It makes sense for Atticus to be the one defend tom because he is compassionate and very brave.
Starting off with Atticus Finch, I think he was one of the nicest characters in the book. He acted the same at work and at home. He did not judge people, and he did not like to harm people. When he was chosen to be Tom’s lawyer, he said to Scout “...every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him personally. This one’s mine, I guess.” (Page 101). He represents a mockingbird because all he did was defend a black person in court, and received hate for it.

Atticus Finch was an honest, hardworking and reasonable person. He is wise and well respected. Even when he is mocked about his love for negroes he stands his ground and remains true to his morals. Atticus is uninfluenced by the community because he does what he thinks is right not what will make him seem like a good man to the public. Atticus raises his children well, teaching them lessons consistent with his own morals. Telling them that they do not truly understand someone until one has seen it from the other person’s perspective.
