Is homosexuality genetic? This a common question asked among society today. While some people argue that homosexuality is genetic, some people also believe that it is nature and not nurture. Genetics is the study of genes, heredity, and genetic variation in living organisms. Genetic processes work in combination with an organism 's environment and experiences to influence development and behavior, often referred to as nature vs nurture. Trait inheritance of genes is still a primary principle of genetics in the 21st century. Modern genetics has expanded beyond inheritance to studying the function and behavior of genes. I believe that homosexuality is nurture and not nature. I do not believe that people are born homosexual but that they are nurtured to be homosexual. I believe that their environment plays a significant role in their decision to be homosexual. “At best genetics is a minor factor,” says Dr. Neil Whitehead, PhD (RSS, 2015). Whitehead worked for the New Zealand government as a scientific researcher for 24 years, and then spent four years working for the United Nations and International Atomic Energy Agency. Most recently, he serves as a consultant to Japanese universities about the effects of radiation exposure. His PhD is in biochemistry and statistics. He did his research with identical twins.
