Medieval Spain started with the arrival of the Visigoths in the late 5th century to the end of the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella in the 16th century. However, its roots can be traced back to the medieval countries and kingdoms including Galicia, Leon, Castile, Aragon, Navarre, Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia, and Granada. These countries all contributed to what has been known as the Spanish language as well as the country itself.

The Renaissance, in Europe, lasted from 1300 until 1600. The word “Renaissance” means “Reawakening” or “rebirth” which is exactly what occurred in Europe throughout this time period. The historical figure Isabella d'Este contributed and embodied the spirit of the Renaissance through her work,life,and legacy. The Renaissance focused on the revival of learning and art. Throughout this enthusiastic time period in Europe several new styles of art and literature were distinguished among people. The Renaissance spirit can be described as enthusiastic and experimental especially through its amazing arts. The historical figure Isabella d’Este leadership and title being the “First Women Of The Renaissance” contributed to the Renaissance. She played a great role in the government which was thought to be surprising since men were thought to outpower women during this time. Although women and men's equality rights are still not fair, Isabella d’Este helped it excell to a greater level.

In 1460, in Santervas de Campos, Spain, Juan Ponce de Leon was born to a noble family. He learned military tactics and social skills while serving as a page at the court of Aragon. Ponce de Leon also fought against the Moors in Granada as a soldier. Led by Christopher Columbus, Juan may have gone on the second voyage to the West Indies. He started settlements and constructed defenses in Hispaniola for Spain. Ponce de Leon was given the position of the provincial governor of the eastern part of Hispaniola because he reduced a native uprising in 1504. Juan met and married a woman named Leonora on his journey back to Spain.

Juan Ponce de Leon was born in Spain in 1460. Looking for fame and fortune, he started his career as an explorer by assisting in Christopher Columbus’s second expedition. Later on, he started his own expeditions to search for gold. On his various expeditions, he is known for building settlements in Puerto Rico and finding Florida while on the search for the fountain of youth.

I would have least like to have lived in New Spain societies. Indians were the most dominant population when Spanish Monarch established the New Spain. All these Indians were forced to change their religion to Christianity. When Indians were discovered incapable of understanding Christianity, they were the victims of coerced labor, overwork, abuse, and mistreatment. They had to see their friends head chopped off, parts of the body cut away, home destroyed, and their women raped. All of their antiquity were destroyed. There was the drastic change in Indian population when the European diseases in the tribe was introduced as result of conquest. The Spanish Colony was located in the eastern coast of what is also known as the state of Florida. Following soldiers in the Spanish colony heard that England had established a new land . A couple of months later the Spanish and English were at war and the Spanish were planning to kill and hold hostage the English colonists. A rumor also has been going on where an expedition has been led by Ralph Lane. Along his expedition Ralph Lane and the colonists stumbled upon some angered indians. Comparing the characters of Angelo and Isabella, one could argue that Isabella is ‘the symbol of goodness and mercy set against a background of moral decay’. Alternatively, one could see her character as self-righteous and hypocritical, as we later discover when she values her chastity higher than her brother’s life.
