Isolation: A Teen’s Greatest Fear
An increasing number of teens often feel isolated every single day. This feeling is triggered by many factors that are experienced in the teenage years and has a variety of negative impacts associated with it. Throughout all aspects of a teen’s life, whether it is school or relationships, the fear of being isolated is often present. Isolation often causes many other negative emotions to bundle up inside teens which causes them to take extreme measures to get rid of these feelings. One’s unique physical appearance and society’s unrealistic standards, the fear of branching out from their families, and not having their opinion heard are all factors that contribute to a teen’s greatest fear, isolation.

This is present in William Shakespeare’s tragic love story Romeo and Juliet. Juliet’s father, Capulet was often making all of Juliet’s decisions for her with little respect to her opinion. “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch! /I tell thee what - get thee to church o' Thursday/ Or never after look me in the face/ Speak not, reply not, do not answer me!” (Shakespeare 3.5.165-169). It is very evident that Capulet was forcing Juliet to marry Paris without considering her feelings. Capulet’s actions made Juliet feel extremely nervous the day before her wedding since she had a plan of her own to make a scene, and stay with Romeo. “I have a faint cold fear thrills through my veins/That almost freezes up the heat of life” (Shakespeare 4.3.16-17). The demands and opinions that Capulet had on Juliet resulted in her death, and Romeo’s death. Teens today who don’t have a voice can feel alone because they think that no one else feels the same way as them. This is present with issues such as bullying, depression and stress. Speaking to parents and peers can provide a source to confide in when teens feel alone due to

Come you masters of war, fix the bison and empty out your drawer. Continue out when there's nothing about, at least it's like that anymore. We have preserved bio diversity, and a voice keeps talking like no ones listening, then there's a bell ringing for the charity who had shown, that sweeping up is never allowed unless it's on... Desolation row. Exstinction will never
"..the social world of rejected and neglected adolescents is considerably less pleasant. They have fewer friends, engage in social activites less frequently, and have less contact with the opposite sex. They see themseleves... as less popular, and they are more likely to feel lonely" (McElhaney, Antonishak, & Allen, 2008; Woodhouse, Dykas, & Cassidy, 2012).
As I read through the scripture this week, God reminded me it was not His will for man to be alone and he designed us to have companionship with others. We can see in Genesis 2:18 God never intended for us to be alone (Zondervan, n.d.). As we read Genesis 2:18, the Creator clearly states it is not good to be alone and He provided a solution for us; He created a suitable helpmate(Zondervan, n.d.).
Into the Wild by Sean Penn, follows a boy’s epic journey to Alaska and his eventual demise. The protagonist, Chris, goes through all the motions of acquiring knowledge, crucial for his survival. All the knowledge in the world is useless without wisdom, as with wisdom comes knowledge. Chris’ ignorance of this essential understanding occurred because of his emotional unavailability, arrogance and immaturity.

The main character in Natsume Soseki’s Kokoro suffers from isolation as a result of being caught in this transition between ideals in which he can no longer fully believe and a contemporariness to which he is unfamiliar; this largely represents the divide between those who chose to follow modernization and the others who consciously chose to maintain a traditionalist lifestyle in the time of the Meiji Era; the loneliness and alienation that resulted from this are highlighted through the miscommunications between the novel’s characters. Sensei’s alienation is described through the mutual barriers to communication that the characters of the story face. Western societies value and encourage conversations in constructing relationships. However,
The more established server perceives himself in the old man and sees his own future. He goes to bat for the old man against the more youthful server's reactions, indicating out that the old man may profit by a wife and is spotless and flawless when he drinks. Eventual isolation from life is another image the author uses to convey "nada." The picture of a lonely "old man who sat in the shadow the leaves" of the tree is presented several times in the story .The repetition of key words, such as "the old man sitting in the shadow," implies the depths of the loneliness the old man suffers and the intensity of his separation from the rest of the world. The more seasoned server has no genuine motivation to take the old man's side. Actually, the old
Do you have children? If so, have you ever given them in ‘time out’ as a consequence for misbehavior? I suspect so! And have you ever had to remind a sibling to stay away from the “offender”? “Isolation” is something that most of us do not appreciate! Isolation is different from taking time for ourselves. Being “put” in isolation is a consequence and a punishment for not behaving “correctly”. The isolation gives us time to “think” and hopefully realize that we have hurt another, misbehaved or we had not been obedient.
It seems that no matter how isolated one makes itself, there will always be a prevalent aspect of life that cannot be escaped. It is of course the tragedy of death, a dark and frightening end. Fifteen-year old Mariam was no exception to this unfortunate truth of life. One spring day in 1979, a chauffeur started yelling at Mariam to turn away and go back. It was a desperate cry to shield the young girl from what she was about to see in her home just after returning from her stay at a family friend’s home. Her home, a small house near Heart, Afghanistan; isolated from the world. Now had her lifeless mothers body hanging inside. The mother - whose name is not disclosed per request of family – had reportedly been in unstable mental conditions.
Isolation is one of the scariest experience a person might have. In The Thing, the characters voluntarily isolated themselves from the rest of the world when they joined the team that went to the research facility in Antarctica. Being in a place where communication with the “outside” world is difficult, the characters were left isolated and hopeless. The setting of The Thing was in Antarctica, a huge ice-covered landmass that does not have a lot of inhabitants.
Then we expecting another incident after few years from now which will be another isolated case.
During this clinical experience, two interventions that could have been implemented to avoid the patient’s psychological distress are social support and education (Mishel 1988). Education provided about isolation precautions and the reasons behind this procedure can help to decrease feelings of uncertainty in a patient. As well, it is crucial that the health care provider assesses the patient for the understanding of isolation precautions. However, during the scenario described, the patient lacked three vital pieces of information which lead to uncertainty in her future. These consist of a misinterpretation of isolation, details regarding a urinary tract infection and its treatment, and a timeline of her expected stay in isolation. This patient
Humans have a natural need to fit in. For teenagers, fitting in is even more important than it was when they were little kids and more than it will ever be when they grow up to become working adults with careers and children. In the world of high school, the social food chain is a vicious occurrence. To a lot of people, not fitting in means that you are not liked, that you are uncool and that you don’t belong. Nobody wants to feel like they don’t belong, especially teenagers. Teenagers are growing humans who are exploring their own identities and becoming their own person, so they feel a stronger need to fit in with friends who give them approval and a “home” outside of their family. This gives them a sense of reassurance and protection. Moreover,
In the novel Of Mice and Men Isolation plays a key role in the actions of the characters. Many characters act strangely as a result of their loneliness. Specific characters that act out of place in the novel are Crooks, the African American farmhand, Curley’s wife, and George. The book demonstrates that isolated characters lose motivation in their lives which results in making unhealthy and even more isolating decisions, further deteriorating their situation.
