In 1884 the J. S. Seaverns freighter sank and after 132 years it was found. The freighter sank in Canada near Michipicoten Harbor, Ontario. This summer a five-man team located it. It was discovered along with piles of unbroken dishes which is strange how nothing was broken after 132 years of being underwater after sunken. There were also other various amounts of other century-old items. The Dutch Tribune News reported the found items last week. Dan Fountain was the guy that helped find those items last week reported them as being “in beautiful shape.” It is hard to believe that the sunken ship was found along with many items inside it and it being untouched and undisturbed. The upper cabins of the sunken ship however were somewhat broken up
My favorite history experience has to do with the movie called “The Titanic.” Not just the movie but the actual event happening. I wish I could have been there and survived the experience to be able to tell the amazing, life changing story. The movie and the actual sinking of the ship affected me in many ways. I think it also affected the way we make our boats today. When I seen this movie and realized not only how much the world has changed since the titanic happened, but the way we think and how we build things differently.
Over fifteen thousand years ago an ordinary mass of ice emerged from nature and commenced its destiny of becoming the world's most famous iceberg (www.titanicuniverse.com). This notorious mass of ice came to existence thousands of years ago as a lone fragment of snow which eventually accumulated for a multitude of ages. While the flurries continuously descended along the shores of Greenland, the snowflakes were simultaneously being condensed into one of the most critical abominations in recorded history (www.titanic-titanic.com). Once the timing of the intemperate environment had reached the year of 1909, the glacier was then fractured and allowed for the ice’s secession from its customary location and the advancement towards a tremendous
On April 15, 1912 at 11:40 P.M. the Titanic collided with an iceberg and by 2:20 A.M. it was at the bottom of the ocean; over 1,500 people died. The massive loss of life was a shock to the world. The “unsinkable” ship had sunk. Despite the Titanic’s claims about being “unsinkable” and completely safe, many avoidable things led to the immense number of fatalities, such as the shortage of lifeboats, lowered bulkheads, and the lack of binoculars. Bruce Ismay, the designer of the Titanic and director of Whitestar line, often chose the comfort of his passengers over their safety. While Ismay was designing the Titanic he thought that the deck was too cluttered so he decided to keep only a third of the lifeboats needed to save all of the passengers
The titanic was a massive tragedy and was also huge, but how would it compare to modern ships? Today I will be writing an essay on the similarities and differences between the two biggest ships of their time. To be clear, I will use the oasis of the seas as a reference point.
The sinking of the Titanic is one of the most famous maritime tragedies in the modern world. The Titanic sunk on April 15, 1912, while making her maiden voyage across the Atlantic. Even though the Titanic was deemed unsinkable by her builder, White Star line, she sank after striking an iceberg. This picture (NewYorkTimes.com) emphasizes the tragedy of the 1500 people that lost their life. While the loss of life was incredible, it could of have been prevented. There were only 20 lifeboats aboard the Titanic and this amount was not ample for the nearly 2,200 passengers aboard the ship. Another contributing factor to the loss of life was the lack of training on the operation of the life boats. (History1900s.about.com). Life boats were
April 10th, 1912 the R.M.S. Titanic was scheduled to set sail at 12pm GMT on its first
It’s September 4, 2013 in the Gulf of Mexico on our deep sea exploration of a shipwreck, what we thought was a regular investigation ended up being much more than what we expected. We found two other shipwreck in the area. Everything that was on the ship before it sank looks well preserved. There were 60 artifacts recovered from the ships these items being musket parts, six cannons, ceramic cups, dishes, clothing, a toothbrush and china. We were all surprised to even find more than one ship but to find different artifacts that can tell a story is more than exciting. We don’t have an exact date for when these ships sank but we're assuming they sank around the 19th century in a storm. All the ships we found were around 4,363 feet below the
“We could see groups of the almost fifteen hundred people still aboard, clinging in clusters or bunches, like swarming bees; only to fall in masses, pairs or singly, as the great after part of the ship, two-hundred and fifty feet of it rose into the sky, till it reached a sixty-five or seventy degree angle.” – John Thayer (www.eyewitnesshistory.com). The RMS Titanic, more commonly known as “The Titanic”, set sail across the Atlantic Ocean April 10, 1912 from Southampton, England to New York City, USA. The “unsinkable” Titanic was a luxury boat, with mostly first class seats. It was the most high class boat of its time with nothing but positive reviews from wealthy businesses. The sinking of the Titanic is proof that
Currently it’s 2018, 106 years since the disaster in 1912. A little while ago, we finished the unit on the Titanic and most of my questions were answered. Like exactly how many people were able to survive the tragedy or why did only a few lifeboats go back to find survivors? “706 survivors” and “the people onboard didn’t want to die” were the responses I got.
Today, November 5th. Searching. For two generations the Alaskan coast bore several sunken vessels. There was one vessel that was more important than any of the others. The area has been searched for years looking for that one vessel they knew had encountered an Iceberg and had sank taking with it hundreds of lives and also burying an untold amount of Jewels and treasures with it. Searching for this treasure had went on for years until finally just a few years ago one of the men searching uncovered an area that had been hidden by ice and debris. The ship was almost obscure however; it was there on the oceans bottom. The area was not easily assessable because of the depth and temperature of the water. However, after several attempts were made
Would you want to raise the Titanic and preserve it or let it rust till it's dust. I am one who wants to raise this historical place and preserve it. Raising the Titanic and rebuilding it into a floating museum would be an educational, and help others take in how massive it was. But everything has something that could be bad and have a terrible consequences. Raising the Titanic could be dangerous and it could collapse. The family, of the passengers that boarded the Titanic, could be given back the belongings that rightfully belong to them.
“The first unsinkable ship” The RMS Titanic was called many things, the ship of dreams, grandest ship, and unsinkable. It was said that God himself could not sink her. It sailed off for its first and last voyage. From the tragic disaster of the movie the sinking Titanic remains one of the most famous tragedies in history.
Many people died in the Titanic all because of arrogance; one which was Mr. Johan Henrik Johannesson Kvillner. The Titanic was thought to be,”unsinkable” to the public. People that were on the ship ranged from maids to ship workers to millionaires. At that time the class system put them where they were on the ship. Upper class had the upper levels of the ship, middle class had the middle rooms and floors of the ship, and lower class had the lowest floors on the ship.
The sinking of the RMS Titanic was very tragic, yet it still catches many people’s attention due to the interesting facts and stories. Over three years had been completely wasted building the world famous “unsinkable ship” that descended beneath the North Atlantic Ocean only four days after it had begun its voyage. Today, technology has helped researchers discover new information on the Titanic that has been made available to the public.
All people believe there are many ways the Titanic sank, but I believe that nature sunk the Titanic. Nature can be so harsh but yet so beautiful. In this case nature was harsh on the Titanic. Nature is the cause to blame because of Earth’s nearness to the Moon and the Sun and the refraction of light.
